This came out of nowhere! It's not good for the Bobcats to see these All-Stars coming to the East. Amare, Melo, now Deron.
I will say I'm totally surprised by this...
I just found another link on the trade...

Jazz only got NJ's pick for this year and GS's pick for next season.

And Paul may not even be the same player by the time the Knicks can actually make moves to get him.
Also: Brian Smith (http://twitter.com/tribjazz) from Salt Lake Tribune is saying that Utah looked into this (edit: looked into trading Deron - not this deal in particular) months ago while Sloan was still in place.

Man THAT trade came out of nowhere.
Fortunately for us, The Nets are so far out of the playoff hunt that not even the addition of D-Will can help them climb up to the 8th spot.
Ziggy...I'm not worried about this year...but after...
Here is the link to ESPN take on the trade if anyone is interested...

Is Deron going to sign with the Nets longterm though? NJ just gave up the next few years in Favors and whatever those draft picks would've brought. All I see is a top-5 pg (D-Will) and an emerging young center (Lopez). Across the Hudson in '12, I see 'Melo, Stoudemire, Fields, Brewer and they still have a draft pick coming in '11 and '12. It must be tough being the Mets to the Yankees of basketball in Gotham.

BREAKING:
Charlotte made inquiries about Deron Williams before Nets got him. Bobcats trying to be aggressive on trade market. Keep eye on Boris Diaw.
-Marc Spears on Twitter....
We tried to get D-Will??? Damnnnnn!!!
Keep an eye on Boris Diaw? Who says we wont make a deal now? I still say something is gonna happen.....

Brewer sucks. Fields is not a starting 2. Aaaaaand that about sums up the Knicks outside of GhostofChaunceyBillups, Melo, and Amare "Pray for my knees" Stoudamire.
Nets still have 3 picks left and plenty of cap space. NY? They've got to pin everything on being able to land a hobbled Chris Paul at a discount.

Brewer is no world-beater, but he's a solid young bench guy that has been relegated to Minnesota for his short career. Fields has game and is a capable starting 2 guard in this league. Dude is a rookie and looks very comfortable already in the league. If you're D Will, would you honestly look at both rosters this time next year and stay with the Nets over the Knicks? I'm not happy with the Knicks' bench and depth moving forward, but they've got two top-20 NBA players on their roster and a few young guys that are capable of helping out. Just my 2 pennies DY..... take it for what it's worth.

If we would have found some way to get Deron, I'd have pooped my panties. They could've had DJ, Crash, and whatever else.
As is, my favorite player just found me a new second favorite team. Keep messing shit up Charlotte and ill turn into a Net fan. Suck on that!

Jazz got them selves into a mess. Williams wanted sloan out he got his wish then the jazz realized that was a dumb move so to compensate they trade Williams without him even knowing about it. Talk about bad management. 2 wrongs don't make a right. NJ's new owner is also an idiot. He is risking the entire future of his team to sell some tickets now. Williams I can promise you will not resign in NJ. I am sure if he was unhappy in Utah he isn't going to be any happier in NJ.

Imo the nets got worse. you lose your depth at PF and you trade an already pretty good pg for a really good pg. I guess they are just going to rely on Williams to average 30 and 15.

I think you are underrating Williams. Nets made the Knicks look like idiots, and on the day when they were supposed to be celebrating Melo's arrival. Nets bid up Melo, forcing NY to give up more than they probably should have, then went and got an even better player in D-Will for less than what their supposed offer was for Melo.
Now I may be underrating Williams' attitude problems. If he leaves the Nets in 2 years or is a major headcase, then you are very right and I'm extremely wrong. But the way I see it, D-Will is the best point guard in the game and will make the rest of the Nets look fantastic, especially Lopez.

Especially if the Nets can use Williams to attract some other quality players. If they can do that, the chances of Deron leaving are greatly reduced, and they can become a pretty solid team when they move to Brooklyn.

You guys are talking about the future I am talking about right now. Which is why I said they better hope he averages 30 and 15 because he has to make up for the production of 2 players.

Well I cant imagine this move was done as a "right now" move.

Based on how thrilled Williams sounds about the trade it does not seem like it is a move that will work out for the future.

I've been thinking about this all day: What if the Knicks were able to get D-Will for the same offer they gave for Melo (not likely, but who knows)? And then just sat back and said, well Melo, you can sign and be with Denver or the Nets and get your money, or come here and play with 2 legit stars on the biggest stage for less. Now that would have been a great/ballsy move.

the jazz were smart. they saw melo situation part 2 coming in two years and said no thanks. derron is pissed because that was going to be his plan to say where he wanted to go with an extension and play the whole "i am not the bad guy" card like melo did. i don't blame them one bit and it will be nice if they publicly come out and say it to keep the other whiney bitch stars from doing it too.

This is his fault. I don't want to say that he completely ran Sloan out of town, but he definitely played some part in that. Also consider that he has been extremely vocal about some of the moves the front office has made. Also consider that it leaked out during All Star weekend that he wanted to play in New York. He was never going to resign in Utah, so the organization did him a huge favor.
Instead of taking on ridiculous salary and trading for crappy players like New Orleans has done to TRY to please Chris Paul, they said screw it and got draft picks, young talent, and a starting PG in return. New Jersey completely got fleeced.
