Steve Kyler - 02/23/2011 12:47pm EST-
Deron Williams' camp is claiming they knew nothing of a possible trade, and were told of the deal this morning after it was reached in principal late last night and consummated this morning.
In reality the Jazz had talks regarding Williams with Charlotte just after the Jerry Sloan retirement, and Jazz sources in Utah told HOOPSWORLD the day of Sloan retirement that the team had offered to break up the team to keep Jerry in Utah and in the coaches' chair.
Deron may not have seen this trade coming, but a number of executives say they did, but like Sloan quitting abruptly, didn't believe Utah would actually trade him.
Jazz sources near the situation responded cryptically to text message asking if Williams so called "would sign with New York" rumors played a part, with Jazz source texting "No, was time for a change".
Williams was with the Jazz in Dallas and was making arrangements to fly out this afternoon.
The Nets have told at least one team, they feel Deron is a franchise player, and plan to construct the roster around him and will be seeking his input on future roster moves.
Sources said the Nets sounded like they got exactly what they wanted out of the deal.
