Joel Przybilla says his Trail Blazers career might have a second chapter.
The veteran center, who was traded Thursday to Charlotte, hinted toward a return to Portland, but says his immediate future is up in the air until he speaks with the Bobcats front office.
Przybilla did not rule out the possibility of having his contract bought out by Charlotte, and he smiled wryly when talking about the Blazers.
“I still think there might be a chance I can come back,’’ Przybilla said late Friday night at Portland International Airport, where he prepared to board a flight to Charlotte. “It may be next year, but I think there’s more. I don’t think it’s over just yet. I just have that hunch.’’
If Charlotte buys out his contract, Przybilla can sign with another team, but would have to wait 30 days before signing with the team that traded him. The Blazers have two open roster spots and only one true center, veteran Marcus Camby, who is currently rehabilitating his left knee after arthroscopic surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus on Jan. 20.
In the weeks leading up to Thursday’s trading deadline, Przybilla privately said if he was traded he would likely ask for a buyout, or simply retire, citing his surgically repaired right knee.

He'll finish the season in Charlotte and then go back to Portland, he's agreed to report and will show up tonight in Charlotte. I don't think he retires because he'll lose out on the remaining 1/4 of his salary and Charlotte's not going to buy him out. He'll unhappily play the last 20 some games as a Bobcat and return back home during the offseason. He's an expiring contract so him returning them is no problem.
And even if he does retire, I'm fine signing a dleaguer with potential and seeing what they can do in time.

I think a lot of people already knew this was an option. I for one didn't think he would ever play for us.

I know that he will have to play out the rest of this year. Mostly because if we buy him out then everyone will go insane. for example: "WE JUST PAID THE MAIN GUY WE TRADED OUR BEST PLAYER FOR A LOT OF MONEY TO GO RIGHT BACK TO THE TRAIL BLAZERS!!!" That would not go over well at all. This big bitch better bring it and stop being a damn portland style baby.

Just shows you how mismanaged our franchise is. We all knew about this before the trade ever happened, yet they still were determined to deal with the Blazers. Dealing with a defensive center who is a primadonna averaging 1.8 points and 4 rebounds a game is exactly what we needed back in trading our franchise player. And I'm sure being forced to play in a city against your will for the rest of the season will result in optimal performance.

Hilarious. Some will stretch far and wide to find something to complain about. No one expects him to be here next year. He was brought in because he is an expiring. He's a professional. If he plays the year out for us and goes to Portland or home, it makes no difference. And if he wants to retire right away, great! We dont have to pay him the last 25% of his salary. Everyone knew this at the trade, nothing new.

That. And even if he retires, we get better pingpong balls that way. Nothing to worry about then.
NEWSFLASH!

Can't lie, I really saw this coming. If he plays for us great, if not who cares. Look for a d-leaguer with a big body.

If he doesn't want to play then he can retire. I won't support paying money to buy him out when he's an expiring and we only owe a fraction of the contract to him.

I agree with that 100%. No way should we buy him out and help facilitate a return to Portland in 30 days. If we make sure he understands that that is our stance, I would expect him to show up and play out his contract.

The thing that make me mad is that he does not want to play for us.I know that he is not a special player or anything like that. But the fact that he does not want to play for us.almost make me feel that if he ever play for the Bobcats that we should boooed .Because totally disrespectful to say oh i don't want to play for the team that i just got trade-it to

Being traded has to be an extremely emotional thing. It means you have to either live away from your family or uproot them. New schools for the kids, a new house, a new doctor, a new car mechanic...
I don't think anyone should take his comments personally. As far as I am concerned, he can either show up and play or retire. Nothing more, nothing less.

We knew this anyways. He wasn't coming here for the long term. He's a salary dump. I feel like MJ is going after someone big this off season. We still have a pretty good team without Wallace. I was at the game last night and was surprised there was a good bit of people there. I know it was Fri. but it was Sacramento. I'm just happy we have so many options now. Before Wallace was traded, we were stuck. We had no run to do anything.

It would not be so bad if we did not trade Nazr just to get an extra 2 million of the books next year. He was our best center even with his age and limited minutes. If we still had Nazr no one would give a shit about Pryz.

Its not so much the numbers...
Joel is hurt, BAD, and is already at the end of his career. He'd be great if he was healthy, but he was moving on half a leg in Portland.

So there's nothing to complain about with this situation?
Again, even if he plays, he already has made it clear that he doesn't want to be here, so do you think he'll be all that invested in our success or failure?
And he's not acting like a professional. Crash is a professional. He went to Portland and didn't complain despite saying he wanted to be here before the deadline and he didn't want to leave. But yet, he got a on a plane straight to Portland and did the presser last night and talked about how he would give it 100% and do whatever it took to win. Meanwhile, the role player (at best) that we traded him for was too busy to get on a plane to Charlotte until last night (Crash was already there as previously mentioned), and found time to tell Portland media he doesn't care about playing here and we'll be back in Portland ASAP. And he's a professional?
That IS something to complain about. The guy is being a bitch, it's not like any of our fanbase wanted him to begin with. Crash didn't want to go anywhere either, but he's paid to play and even if he's unhappy, he's going to go there and play his heart out. That's a professional.

UPDATE:
http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_nba/2011/02/silas-wins-over-przybilla.html
It's no secret former Portland Trail Blazers center Joel Przybilla had major misgivings about being traded to the Bobcats. He didn't want to uproot his family and he questioned what sort of a role the Bobcats had in mind for him.
An hour and a half of meetings with coach Paul Silas, general manager Rod Higgins and team owner Michael Jordan apparently smoothed over all that. Przybilla said at practice Saturday that he's excited because the Bobcats are excited to have him.

The difference between Pryz and Crash is that one guy can walk and the other can't.
Before he got hurt, he was easily better than Kwame or Nazr but at his age and with the severity of the injury.... he had to be considering retirement long before the trade.

I get that, but the injury wasn't stopping him from sucking off Portland and telling them how he would be back there playing. The injury excuse is bullshit by him... I can understand the family issues. But, Crash said himself he is still just now getting back from his ankle injury which has affected his play and he has a family as well, so there's no excuse for the way Pryzbilla was handling it.
And I actually like Pryzbilla's game, I just don't like the way he's approached this. It may be an accumulation of being turned down by Melo, Rudy, and now Pryzbilla... It just pissed me off. Supposedly, after talking with the staff Pryzbilla is excited now, but I don't buy it. He should've kept his mouth shut until he talked with the team in person, like Crash did.
(As a SN, I used to draft him as my last big for defense and rebounding in NB!2k fantasy drafts, so it's not hating on him, just the way he's handled this. Would've loved a Nazr for Pryzbilla and filler trade straight up)

Portland showed a lot of loyalty to him after the injury and he was their guy when the rest of the centers got injured in the past. They had a good prior relationship. He doesn't have one here. It may or may not turn into one eventually, but I'm not going to call an old guy who's career is possibly ended 4 years earlier than it should be a bitch because he's apprehensive about the situation he was just tossed into.
If he were young, healthy, and on the upswing than it'd be different....

Jack didn't want to be here initially either. He got over it. Pryz will too. It doesn't matter what he wants. If he wants to play basketball in the NBA this season he has no choice but to play for us. Sooner or later he'll accept that and it will be fine.

Pryz will only extend his career by playing in Charlotte. Kwame and Nazr both will and have because they got an opportunity here. Pryz will try 100% because thats who he is and will be great for our team. He is 7'1 who defends the rim and grabs every board. He is perfect compliment(sp?) when Diaw is on court. Pryz will be solid for us for the year. Depending on how healthy he remains and with Kwame's continued improvement, one of them will get a contract offer here for next year to groom the young center we pick up through the draft.
