CP3 left the Cavs game with an aparent head injury. Lets hope the NC native is ok but takes his time coming back. Our pick from NO could quickly turn into a lotto pick now making the GW trade palatable. Once again i hate seeing great players injured but this could could really give us a boost. Get well CP3 because Charlotte will be waiting in 2012.

Edit: It appears CP3 has a concussion so no spinal damage.

He's been hurt a lot over the past year or so and he hasn't been right since. I'm going to be a bit weary of giving him a max deal in the future. Serious knee injuries scare me.

Hope he gets better, always liked cp3. Who knows, I could see him in a bobcats uniform later on.

i agree with you but giving him the deal just to make us nationally relevant IMO is worth it. if we could get 2-3 really good years out of him and get some other good players here because they want to come play for him would make it worth it. we need a name and identity.

Fortunately we've got some time to determine whether he's likely to return to elite status or not. Certainly glad it doesn't appear to be a serious injury, but if him being banged up turns our pick into a lottery then it could be the stroke of luck this franchise has never had. How nice would it be to somehow land Kyrie and not even need CP.

Yeah, his knees are a concern, i hope he returns to his 08-09 form, the best season of his carer to date. He'll be back on the court in no time.

What's the protection on the NO pick? Top 7 this year?

Top 7 this year, top 8 for a couple of years, then its two second rounders

I always get confused with picks. Can you clarify what this means?

It means if the NoLa pick is in the top 7, they keep it. If it's outside the top 7, we get it. If they keep it the first year, then the next few it's top 8 protected. If they somehow keep it all 4 protected years, it becomes two second rounders.

Ahh so it's their choice when they choose to give us the pick?

No. Not once the protections are written. It's cut and dry. If they have a pick outside the top 7, we get it. If not, it goes to the next year's protection.

However, this can be waived if both teams agree. This is how the 'cats got Sean May.

Is anyone else annoyed that the pick we traded away gets less protected over time, but the one(s?) we got back get more protected.

I'm gonna be pissed with some 2nd rounders 5 years from now.

I don't quite understand what it means when they say the NoLa pick is top 7 protected. Doesn't that mean that if the Hornets get a pick in the top 7 it goes to them and not us? If that is the case then there is a good chance we would not get the pick. So if NoLa tanks it may not benefit us. If I am wrong please tell me cause this is something I am not sure about.

I wrote this before reading the whole thread. I see that if NoLa gets a top 7 pick we are screwed. It does not make the pick look so good after all. Forget this protected BS.

You guys are making this pick protection stuff way too complicated. They put protection on the picks to make them "fair". Jerry's Bayless isn't worth a top 7 pick, so just in case their pick goes that high, they get to hold on to it. But if its 8 or later (which is far more likely, btw) then we get it.

To recap, picks 1-7, NO gets it and we move the pick we get back a year. Picks 8-30, we get it no questions asked.

Yes. And, BobCatsFanInTx, to answer your question about wanting NO to tank, it's very unlikely that they would fall so far as be bottom 7 or win the lottery and be top 3. They've already won 37 games, which is more than at least 7 or 8 teams are likely to win this season. They can lose all the rest and likely still not be in the bottom eight.

Exactly. We're 99.9% sure to get their pick this year, for better (late lottery) or worse (18-20). The only way we don't get it is if they hit the balls and get a top 3 pick (about .01% chance... if they fall into the lottery.

hopefully somehow they fall to exactly the 8th spot in the draft. hopefully we get the lotto luck and get top 3 pick. From the looks of things we will be losing alot without any scoring ability and even defense. I mean possibly Jared Sullinger and Harrison Barnes sounds nice.

Yeah you people are way overreacting. This is a common practice, and there is no way that NO finds themselves with a top 7 pick, unless they slip out of the playoffs and pull the biggest lottery upset of all time and win a top 3 pick. So yeah, just relax.
