Ok... we got rid of Gerald, Nazr, UPS, etc...

MJ is clearing cap room for something big, it would seem... but I pose this question to my fellow Charlotte fans : Do you really think a big name FA like Chris Paul or Dwight Howard would even entertain the thought of coming to play in Charlotte?

I don't think they would. MAYBE CP3 because of his Winston-Salem roots, but still, I doubt it.

OK... so we don't get the big name guys this offseason.

Well... all I'm seeing from those threads is...

Trade Jack.
Trade DJ.

Steph Curry?

Nothing addressing either players I mentioned. Unless you mean things posted over a month ago.

They might come here, and this is how i would try: Put them and their agents on a conference call at the same time with MJ and lay it out.

1) The Heat have proven that you need a Point guard and a Center to be dominant. Dwight has never had a dominant PG and CP3 has never had a dominant C.

2) Lets get them to agree to sign together (at what might be the only team with big cap space this off season after everyone else blew their load trying to get the names last year) to 4 year max $$ deals, 4th year is player option, 3rd year is team option that we will let them tell us if they are happy here before we exercise it.

3) They are both 25 right now so we would only be locking them into 2 years, so at 27 they COULD be back on the market.

4) Have Team Jordan contact their agents and clarify that they are looking for a new ad campaign on size and speed, and if they happened to be on a team together it would go along way towards getting them a nice FAT Nike contract.

Well said. Intelligent and not nearly as far-fetched as some other ideas floating around.

It does require us to package a lot of picks with diaw and either jack or diop to open up the other 15 mill we would need to pay 2 max contracts..... But the increased ticket sales, tv coverage, and team store sales would make it a win in the end even if we had to pay some tax.

CP3 would IMO...he was here for the Playoff games and lives here anyway.

ALSO, the new NBA-CBA agreement may not allow CP3 or Dwight to have many options. I think the CBA may put a hard cap on teams so they probably won't be able to join teams like NY or LAL because they are so far over the cap already. We are in a great position to get CP3, especially if our draft picks suceed next year.

I think the team is looking for young players who are either still on their rookie deals or perhaps on a corey brewerish contract. They'll hope to resign them. Plus, the lockout. Yup.

Chris has been in the plans for a looooooong time. Ever since MJ took over.

Dwight would be nice, since Melo didn't work (God knows MJ tried for that), but they can at least get CP3. I think he'd require that Hendo and TT be here for the Alley's, though.

CP3/Hendo/?/TT/Dwight is stacked. You could put Matt Carroll at the three and it'd still be a top-4 team.

If you the that lineup there will be a scoring/shooting forward that would sign here for cheap(Like Miller in MIA).

Wow I would just be amazed if we managed to get both. Hendo can be the Raja Bell esque player, but more potent offensively. TT and Dwight would be a FORCE in the paint. Jordan brand would have to bend over backwards to make that happen though

I think it's too much wishful thinking to have both, but I understand the logic, neither would likely sign if the other wasn't or if there weren't already championship pieces in place. I do have a feeling MJ will be pushing hard for CP3 though as he has been for over year.

Yesss, Ive been thinking a Raja Bell comparison for about a month now, good idea.

As for getting those two guys, don't be delusional, they are not coming here.

CP3 and Howard
I think because we have MJ ... its possible they could come here.
What are thier options in major markets?:
New York- good chance of getting one of them(probably CP3)
L*kers - Maybe go after Howard if they drop Bynum..just can't see this though, the pieces fit in LA now
Philly- If they have any sense whatsoever they should get both, and let Brand take a walk
PHX- i guess its possible, doesnt seem likely
Boston- Howard maybe(if kg or ray goes)
Detroit, Mavs, Nets- maybe
or its possible Howard to New Orleans or Paul to the Magic
I'm not holding my breath, but if they go somewhere together, we are actually a good option.

in reply to the previous conversation i have to say Dwight has already said he would like to go to LA or he has mentioned it so...

Well then. There it is. Howard to LA and Paul will probably go to the Knicks then. I think Bynums unrestricted in 2012. Andrew Bynum anyone? We'll probably end up with Baron Davis and Maxiell or some sh*t.

The perfect guy to make this team better is a free agent this offseason. Zack Randolph! ( a player that we could have a legitimate chance at.... IMHO, no way we could ever land Howard and Paul is maybe like a 10-15% chance)

The Bobcats have never had a low post scoring threat, adding 22 points and 12 rebounds to the post would make us a really tough team when coupled with 2 first rounders.... We would be the type of team that no one would like to face in the playoffs

Randolph would be good. I'm probably alone on this, but if the celtics dont re-sign him and we can afford it I'd like to see Jeff Green here. I like his game and would give alot of options to the line-up. He was a 15/6 guy in OKC and 24 years old.

I'm not a Randolph fan, he always looks slow and sucks when i watch. But i guess you can't argue with the numbers

love randolph. it looks like he finally gets it. he is terribly unathletic but he has great hands, a nose for the ball and does nothing but rebound and score. the problem is he needs to be paired with a defensive center. memphis will resign him for sure. he and gasol are a great combo together.

You can't really say that without knowing what the next CBA will look like or what trades we can pull off this summer. We may trade one of our picks to a team in order for them to take Boris off our hands.

The new CBA may allow an amnesty clause that allows us to cut a player without them counting against the cap.

The new CBA will be vastly different then the current agreement- IMO/

Depending on what we have to give up and how long we can sign a top FA for I don't see any needs to make a serious move. If anything I like the idea of trading up in the draft as opposed to getting Dwight or CP3. If anything the best bet would be to trade what little value we have in the name of Stephen Jackson and get us an additional pick or additional picks. If this is truly to be a rebuild than that is what the team should do. Besides we do not know how the new CBA will play out. It may be set up in a way where getting top players from small market teams is not such a give me any longer. Between Dwight and CP3 I imagine CP3 could be a player we could get. Dwight Howard is happy in Orlando and the Magic are not that far from winning a title. The Orlando brass has shown that they are willing to make serious moves to get a title and as long as they don't make total bone headed decisions Dwight Howard will be happy to stay in the Magic kingdom. If some team offers a ridiculous amount of $ for Dwight maybe he jumps ship but I don't see any offer being that far and above what the Magic offer him.

In the end I can see our team growing to top tier from it's own drafted talent and since there is a rookie cap there will be plenty of cap space down the line to make a splash via free agency. Let's give some young guys a chance to turn the Bobcats program into an OKC type program. OKC was able to get where they are relatively quick and the fans did not have to suffer too many years of losing to get there.

I realize not every team can have the success that OKC has had but to me the best bet for long term success is acquiring currently young talented NBA players with a high upside and some top draft picks.

To me staying very young and acquiring picks is the best way to go. Free agency is not always a given success any more than drafting is. Chemistry will always play a real role either way but at least if young guys don't pan out you are not financially strapped for years with no way out.
