I agree, but I liken him to Dwayne Wade when he first came in the league. I'd rather he work on his isolation one on one game a lot this summer. Usually the three pointer is the last thing that comes to the guys who really are going to be stars in the league. We've got three guys starting now that can hit the three on a pretty consistent basis, so it's not a huge thing at the moment.

true, maybe in the future he will gain a 3 point game

I bet he can hit 3's but he seems like a smart player who goes for the higher percentage shots. I think over the summer you will see his 3 point shooting and handling improve significantly.

he seems to be very confident shooting which is a very good sign, i think he will have a field day against the cavs tonight
i don't think he will ever be a good 3 pt shooter somewhere above 40% from three with more than 60 attempts and that is fine. he isn't that type of shooter and never has been. i think he is best served to perfect his mid-range game especially continuing to be a knock down guy from 18 ft in off of screens. this creates movement in the offense. i think a better strategy is to surround him with a great shooting pg and sf and if we can find one a stretch 4.

Agreed. As long as he is consistent on a mid range jumper and he can take it to the hoop too, he will be a very solid NBA player. I really love his defense, and that is a huge plus.

He won't ever be a good outside shooter. That's just a skill you either have or don't have. You can make it better, yeah, but he won't ever make more than 15 three's in a season

340 attempts
340 attempts
I didn't want to have to break this out, but you've left me no choice.

He never attempted more than 297. 43 shy of Rose (and counting).
Besides, are we REALLY comparing Henderson to MJ, or even Rose for that matter?

You said it was something you either have or don't have, and can't acquire. I proved you wrong.
And 297 is still closer to 4 than 3 attempts per game.
either way it is safe to say that 32% rose or 42% (mj's best by far with over 100 attempts) were not three point shooters and not a shot that you would want over them driving or shooting a mid range jumper. sure gerald could improve but his game will in all likelihood be mid range and dribble drive off of passes.

Not really. Using MJ as an example is not fair to any other person who ever played. Henderson never has and never will have the talent, drive, and desire to develop anything close to what MJ has. Shaky three point shooting included.
Using Rose doesn't really make sense either:
Rose makes his rookie year--16
Henderson makes in his two year career--7
Rose attempts his rookie year--72
Henderson attempts in his two year career--41
Rose shooting % his rookie year--.222%
Henderson shooting % in his two year career--.171%
So Rose made more than double the 3 pointers, in half the time. Attempted more than double in half the time. And has a much better shooting %. Furthermore, Rose's % from his rookie to sophomore year jumped by about .40, and then about another .40 from his 2nd to 3rd year. Henderson's % declined by about .80

We didn't think Hendo was a very good shooter period before this year...he proved us all wrong. So I am just going to assume he will never be a great 3 pt. shooter and hope he proves me wrong again.

The rap on him has always been that he's a good mid range shooter but can't extend it out to 3.

I don't know that he'll become Ray Allen-like in his 3-point shooting ability, but I feel like he can improve enough to keep the defense honest.

Our very own Larry Johnson comes to mind when we talk about a guy developing his 3 point shot (between his 3rd and 4th year):

I don't think there is a reason a guy like Hendo can't do the same. If he could at least just knock down the occasional 3 it would definitely help with floor spacing to say the least.
Without quoting any basketball references, I think Gerald can absolutely develop into a good 3 point shooter.
There are many examples of this happening with players. Think about it, a guy like Gerald dominates at every level (prior to NBA) with his athleticism. If you can shake a guy and then jump over another, why would you shoot 3's? I'm sure that is the case with him in high school and before as well. I have watched him at Duke and even in college, he was a dominant athlete so why shoot 3's.
While I didn't see Hendo play before college, I am truly enjoying watching him develop from his freshman year at Duke to now. The development is astounding and I see nothing to lead me to beleive that it won't continue. 3 point shooting is the next logical step. I believe he will do it.
With that being said, he will never be Ray Allen or Reggie Miller but a 40% shooter would be amazing.

i don't think he ever gets close to 40% with a minimum of 60 attempts. nor do i want him shooting that many three's anyway.
