Why is the royal wedding news-worthy?

Can anyone here give me a valid reason why the royal wedding deserves more than a 30 second blurb at the tail end of the national news?

The over the top coverage of this :airquote:event:airquote: is maddening.

And I haven't seen anything about it because I get my news on Twitter.

I guess because it's such a rare and monumental event. I mean, you're possibly looking at the future QUEEN of England one day.

I've been staring at the CNN coverage of the event for the past hour or so... without even realizing what the hell (and why) I'm watching. I need a break.

Outside of having the title of "Queen" and marrying into a family that has insane amounts of wealth, I don't see how this is any more important than Lamar Odom and Frankenberry Kardasian.

It's got even more hype than when Australia's princess Mary married that Prince dude from Denmark. We got a crapload of coverage then.

With this one, we've got even more. Especially since we're still in the commonwealth, and I've been pulling for a republic for years.

I don't live under a rock, but I didn't know anything about this wedding until about a week ago when I saw something on CNN about it. Two people I couldn't give a damn about and honestly I wouldn't shed a tear if one of them were to say, "I don't".

BCP faithful this is my future Queen you are talking about. I know they do FUCK ALL and even though £1.50 of everyones taxes are spent on the wedding its still great... apparantly. Gotta give it to him tho Kate Middleton is VERY do-able she's rocking this wedding dress as well think it's a bit nippy tho if u know what i mean. keep an eye out for her sister too. Thing is i hate the idea of the whole royals thing, there not even in the news until the spend our money on a wedding. But it's ok its not like were in a recession or anything. I have still found myself watching it tho? Why?
