Wanted to hear yall opinion on this matter.. I think he should, Cam is the most marketable player in Charlotte/Carolina Sports right now. I see a little bit of MJ in Cam, Cam said he'll use the critics as motivators and once the critics stop doubting him he'll make up his own negative criticism to strive to get even better, just like MJ. and once CP3 comes to Charlotte, I think it'd be beneficial to have both of the regional superstars under the same brand.

I'll take that bet. Kid is a winner. And with all the talking heads on TV saying what a great athlete he is, but questioning his ability to play in the pocket or learn the NFL playcalling, he is going to work overtime just to prove people wrong. It's attitude. If JR and Rivera were not convinced, they would have taken Dareus as the safe bet, let Clausen try next year and likely sink, and then go for Andrew Luck next year. (I leave Hurney out of the equation as he has proven to be incompetent)

i only say that because of two things 1. he only did it for one year and usually 1 year produces don't pan out as superstars in the NFL and 2. the track record is terrible for athletic run 1st quarterbacks in the NFL.

but i do like him he seems like a nice guy with a decent head on his shoulders. i hope for all you panther fans he does work out though.

He did it only 1 year at Auburn but the kid has won a championship at multiple levels. He was at a smaller school before he transferred into Auburn and won the championship there. You can't blame a kid for only doing it one year when he was only there for one year.

I know Cam is the ultimate example of a high risk / high reward type of pick but I am 100% on board with his as the #1 and I completely think the type of possible reward outweighs the risk. I personally think he is going to be a stud and the face of pur franchise for the next decade +.

that "smaller school" was a junior college and he was by far and away way better than the competition.

I understand where you come from on this Chef, but I cannot agree. My rant following has nothing whatsoever to do with you, but it directed at the people on TV who analyze the draft, disect it and discuss it on and on. After all, that is where 99% of us get all our information and where we develope out notions of who is good enough for the NFL and who is not. Where was all the questioning by the pundits on TV when the Jets traded up big to grab Mark Sanchez after he had only 1 season starting at USC? And Sanchez is not even a winner! No, the talking heads on TV were praising him as the saving grace for New York. Also, everyone harps on this issue with Cam a the laptop episode at FL when he was 18 and make it sound like he's a murderer. But the NFL people on ESPN and elsewhere conveniently "forgot" that Sanchez had a issue of sexual assault on a co-ed at USC that was being investigated during his FR or SO year, and then it was mysteriously "dropped". No, you dont hear them question Sanchez's character.

I happen to be a white male. There are times I think the issue of race gets injected into a situation when it really does not belong there. But in this case, I really think there are some serious underlying issues of race with the way the press handled this whole matter. It makes me sick and I hope to God that Cam comes out and lights up the world on their asses! I was really on the fence between wanting Dareus to be our pick or wanting Cam Newton. But I think the risk is worth taking. Now, I just hope he proves everyone who has faith in his abilities is right.

i feel you. for the record i don't pay attention to espn at all concerning the nfl draft. aside from the steelers i don't care period. i actually hate the overblown nfl draft industry espn has created. i just go by what i saw from watching multiple auburn games contrasted with what has proven to pan out in the nfl. again, i really do hope for all you panthers fans that he works out. afterall, i am not a sunday ticket holder so i am forced to watch local broadcasts when the panthers are on, so if cam turns into must see tv, it works out for me to. because the past two seasons, i have just not watched nfl games when the panthers are on.

Very happy for you as a Steelers fan. Great organization. Class acts all through the front office and coaching staff. And man, do they kow how to draft! Gonna be another good year for the Steelers!

class act except for the rapist quarterback. i was really hoping that they would have traded him last year at draft time. i find it concerning that all trouble makers go (santonio holmes, plexiglass) except for the all pro qb who can get you a ring. put it this way, if he had done that to my daughter he wouldn't have to worry about what the court said as much as what my remington 870 riot shotgun would say.

Yep. Very sticky situation. Victim wont testify so DA cannot press it to trial. Team can stand with their star QB while kinda "washing their hands of it saying that charges were dropped so they have no reason to release him". At least the NFL suspended him a few games. From team point, although there is a point to make of the color of skin difference between Ben and the other 2, I think the reason is just as you mentioned. 2 are important to the team, but replacable. Ben is the reason you make it to the Super Bowl. Pure and simple. It really does leave a bad taste in your mouth. And you know it makes the Rooney's very uncomfortable.

that "smaller school" was a junior college and he was by far and away way better than the competition.

So, he wins in high school but that doesn't count because it's high school.

So he wins at junior college but that doesn't count because he is better than everyone else.

So he wins at Auburn but that doesn't count because it was only one year.

You, and most of the so called experts are absolutely entitled to your opinion but give me the kid that wins everywhere he plays. I just don't see how you can look at his football record /history and say anything other than wow, this kid has been dominant everywhere he has played.

I'm betting on him.

After reading the usually negative Sorenson's article about Cam and JR, then reading the super in depth link in here, I've totally changed my mind about Cam. He seems like a great kid put in a couple bad situations. And for a player with any hint of character issues, Charlotte and the Panthers is a pretty damn good place to land. And drafting Ziemba was probably as much about keeping an eye on Cam as it was about the abilites of Ziemba.

Looking forward to a Panthers game for the first time since Jake killed us against Arizona.

Hasn't even played a down in the NFL. And we might have to wait until the fall of 2012 to see Newton.
