someone speak to me. What does this mean? The hurricanes are an ice hockey team i think. Why will changing where they play do anything?

About freaking time. They should do it for a real game.

The 'Canes play about 20 minutes from me...and I can almost see the building from where I work (I can see the football stadium).

It's not permanent, it's just a way for both teams to get more exposure in places where they are generally ignored.

The Canes play in Raleigh which is about 2 hours from Charlotte (both in NC). NC has 3 professional franchises (Panthers, Bobcats, Hurricanes).

I am from the Raleigh-Durham area and went to school and lived in Charlotte for 8 years. There is definitely a rivalry between Charlotte, the largest city in NC, and Raleigh, the capital and 2nd largest city. Unfortunately, just because the Bobcats and Hurricanes are from the same state, not everyone in the state pulls for the in state team (largely due to the rivalry).

This will allow both franchises to gain in state exposure to fans that haven't seen them yet. After this, maybe the entire fan base of both teams will increase and maybe more fans will be willing to make the 2 hour drive to each arena. The Checkers are very successful in Charlotte and college basketball is king in the Triangle.

I think it is a brilliant move for both franchises and I am 100% for it!

This needed to be done a long time ago and needs to be done more often. Good Call on both front officies.

I love this idea and never thought about it before, but this should've been done earlier. I don't get why it's got to be a pre-season game and not a regular season game. Both teams could do a home-and-home against Atlanta and be set. Pre-season barely draws a crowd, regular season would be bettter, but no need to bash them with negativity, I suppose. Great first step and maybe we'll see more of this in future seasons. Also, I have family in Raleigh and it takes me just over 2 hours to get there from Uptown Charlotte. I do have a heavy foot, but 2H 10M is my usual time, and I actually shoot for 2H every time I leave....haha, I hope none of you are working the I-85 corridor between here and there.

They wont do this because Season ticket holders are in Charlotte not Raleigh. Season ticket holders pay for 41 home games not 40. If a guy in Concord pays for floor seats and has to drive 3 hours to Raleigh, he wont be happy. I would be pissed if they started switching regular season games to Raleigh. However... they can give Raleigh all the exhibition games they want.

maybe this leads to directtv expanding coverage to the triangle.

Season ticket holders actually have to pay for 43 games (41 regular season and the two pre-season games played in Charlotte). The Bobcats already have 2 preseason 'home' games each year that are not played at the cable box but somewhere else in the carolinas. I would like to know if this is to count as one of the ones which was to be played in Charlotte or if this will just count as one of the preseason games which wasn't going to be played in Charlotte anyways.

This. I don't imagine they want to give a refund to season ticket holders for home games being played somewhere else. I'd be pissed too if they switched some home games to Raleigh. Not because it's Raleigh, just that I pay to go to games in Charlotte.

I can see this being one of the local "home" preseason games next year. May even be the one they do their annual STH road trip for. Maybe they even work something out with the 'Canes where STH's can see the 'Canes one night and 'Cats the next? (or something along those lines) Just a thought. Either way, for preseason games, I think this swap is a good idea.

They could make this happen in a regular season game, it just wouldn't be a smart move on a high profile game, or a western conference team that only travels to Charlotte once a year. But a regular season "home" game against Washington, Toronto, Cleveland, Indiana (big draw in the triad because of Tyler H.), Milwaukee, New Jersey or Detroit would work out similar to one of the home pre-season games Bobcats STH's have to pay for but is for Middle School Students each year, the game is held at 10:30 in the morning and they encourage the STH's to exchange tickets to that pre-season game for a regular season game.

What they could do is offer the Charlotte STH's the same or upgraded seats to the Hurricanes' match or, if the STH had no interest in hockey they could exchange the tickets for additional tickets at another Bobcats home game.

The big expense would be moving their game Operations staff to the remote location, it'd be similar to when they have pre-season games in G'boro, Columbia, etc.

Given that scenario, I'd take the tickets to the Hockey game. They could get with the Charlotte Regional Visitors Bureau or sports commission and offer a Grand slam of Sports package and offer a cross the board discount to various events (Bobcats game, Canes match, College Bowl, ACC Championship and Panthers Game)...combine a dinner, hotel and some bar discounts and it could be a really cool weekend package(s).

Until they get them on TV however this can only accomplish middling results.

Well, I actually live on the Durham/Chapel Hill line and it takes me a few minutes under 2 hours with only moderate speeding. I would imagine anyone can get there form the Triangle in under 2.5 hours though. That relatively new bypass around Greensboro cuts almost 10 minutes off the trip.

Forgot about the bypass. Didn't have that option when I lived in Burlington.

However, define "moderate" for the court, please?

Any other year and I'd be all over them, but with a lockout possibly on the horizon I don't see the point in letting them hold my money for a couple months before they return it.

Not like there won't be tix available up til (a possible) tipoff anyway.

Still, thx for the heads up. IF the game is played my son and I will be there.
