View Full Version : Is Derrick Rose Overrated

I was looking at the Bulls last night and I understand that Rose is very good and he won the MVP this season BUT I feel that he is a good bit overrated.
I feel that the MVP should be the top or best player in the league and I can probably think of 5 guys right off the top of my head that I would rather have on my roster than Rose.
Lebron
Wade
Durant
Griffin
Dwight Howard
What do you think, Overrated or not?

i would take rose over griffin but the rest of that list i agree with. rose is a bit overrated and i didn't think he should have gotten the mvp, but the best argument is holding the team together through the early injuries to both noah and boozer. he is by far the hardest person to stay in front of in the league, but i don't think he is even the best point guard. i still think paul is the best point guard. i think for a point guard he throws too many bad passes and often gets caught throwing bad jump passes. not to make it sound like he isn't worth the hype, he is still a first team all-nba player this year, just not mvp. i think bron or howard have better cases.
As far as statistics go, Rose isn't the best, at all.
However, he carried that team to the #1 seed. Dwight only got to the 4 seed, and lost in the first round. If it wasn't BOTH Wade and LeBron, the Heat would've lost 50 games. Griffin isn't close. And Durant I would rather have, but he has a much better supporting cast and still won fewer games.

Rose is the "New Blood" and that tends to cause casual/gullible fans to jump on the hype wagon. Last year it was Durant, next year it'll probably be Griffin, etc. etc. I'll also agree that he's not the best PG, much less a top 5 player even though everyone on RGM seems to think so.
The thing that really sold me on him as far as MVP goes is that he took the Bulls to the best record in the league while having Noah and Boozer out for extended periods of time.

MVP isn't best player in the league, it's Most Valuable to their team...that was clearly Rose.
Kobe has the most experience and clutch performances on the list, he's also had the most 'help' surrounding him comparative to other teams around the league sans Boston. (he's also the oldest)
Durant is the guy I would take first if I have to start an NBA team tomorrow, he's young, a supremely gifted athlete that is a flat out scorer and still hasn't come close to his potential.
Wade is a freakish athlete, especially at the PG position, but he had a top 5 player with him and under performed as a team, it is after all a team sport.
Lebron is probably a combination of all of the players above, but he's allowed his ego to get the best of him these last two seasons. Having Wade on his team and not having the best record in the league is a disappointment. The irony is, coming out of high school, Lebron met all the hype and surpassed expectations, he was mature and savvy beyond his years; now he's just older, less savvy and still Ringless.
Rose was flat out the Most Valuable to his team this past year, for reasons outlined above. And based off his press conference after closing out Atlanta, he's still humble despite the individual awards this season. Which is refreshing, just don't ask him to spell SAT.

You can say LeBron is a dick all you want (Lord knows I hate his guts) but he's still clearly the best player in the league. If I'm starting a franchise it goes:
Dwight
LeBron
Durant
I still don't think Rose is humble as much as he's dumb. He knows better than to start giving speeches or use big words in press conferences.

Rose has his team in the finals after having one of the best records in the league. Noah and Boozer were hurt all year, so no I don't think Rose is over ratted. I do however think Kevin Love is way over ratted because his team only won like 15 games.

Nope. Most valuable to his team...and I'd kill to have him.
I'll hate the Bulls forever for jumping us to get him.

While I don't think D Rose is the most talented player in the league, I do think he's easily the most valuable to his team and he's had the biggest impact on the league this year

He's not really overrated because he deserved all the praise he got for this year. He had a terrific year (especially for his age) in terms of wins and leadership and is also easily top 10 or 5 pure stats wise.
I do think the Bulls (much like Lebron's Cavs in the past) were tailored quite well to him and I wonder how different players would fare in his place (Westbrook especially). But it's not his fault if his situation is good and he has performed when it counted (minus that last second miss against us, fuck you loser).
And his down to earth attitude doesn't hurt either. Hope he's enjoying the ride because the love can turn to hate pretty quickly for guys like him.

Rose is not overrated. The athletic PG who can score, dish out assists and take it to the rim with such relative ease as to set up his teammates is the "straw that stirs the drink". He does everything you want a PG to do. If I was building a team, he'd be my choice on whom to build around. I'd take King James 2nd.

Best player in the league and MVP are 2 different things.
Most valuable player to his team NO DOUBT is Rose.
Is he overrated...FUCK NO.
If i was to start a franchise tomorrow Rose would be my guy. And he is genuinely a humble guy.
