View Full Version : Silas: Trade up in draft only for a star
Seems Paul wants #9 and #19 unless we can move them for a "star" player...

Agreed. Only Irving, Williams and Kanter are worth combining picks to move into Top 3. Think we have to pick #9. Now, I can see packaging #19 and #39 or even a player with that to move up into the late lottery for another pick.
#19 and #39...not sure what they'd bring but I'd be willing...
Utah #3 and #12 but (obviously) they have two numbers 1s but no second...
Toronto at #5 seems to be the highest team without a second round pick and only one first......I'm not sure #19 and #39 get #5 or even close...but would you package DJ with those two for the #5...?
addition:...and I doubt Raptors would deal with us after last seasons fiasco non-trade...

That sounds EXACTLY like Bernie back in 2005. He thought Paul and Deron were better...but didn't see a lot of separation overall between the 3.
Silas was asked how hands-on Jordan is, in addressing draft decisions. "Rod (Higgins, the general manager) and I will make the final decisions, I think, but he certainly has input," Silas said of Jordan. "If we come up with somebody he doesn’t necessarily care for, he lets us know. But the (final) decision will be ours."
:hysterical:
Did Silas even know Crash was being dealt before the day it happened?
He's either delusional or in denial. There is NO WAY Jordan won't be heavily involved, and that pick will be his. He deferred to LB one time and I doubt he will defer again...and esp. to a coach like Silas.
spectre...I agree that MJ makes the call but I expect he'll take input from all concerned...but a tie will go to the boss...I just hope he makes a solid pick...
Suns at #13 do not have a second either...#19 and #39 might get #13...and it might be worth moving up the six spots...

I forgot...make that 2 times. Bernie pushed for Ammo while MJ was thinking Roy.
Yup, he will take opinions. Honestly tho I'm more than willing to let MJ make the pick. IMO he's been more right than wrong in that regard. My issue with him is his trades.
I still think and hope they'll look to move up into the 4th-7th spots. Quality trumps quantity almost every time.
LOL...depends on the quantity (as in who it is) but in general I agree...but it does drive me back to this...Lopez (and we know the reason) dropped to us and we did not take him...I'm not convinced that one of the guys we're "keen" on will not drop...but it is a crap shoot any way (outside of Williams and Irving) you look at it...and even those two have detractors...

Kinda what I was thinking, but not sure it is enough for the Suns to move back 6 spots. It may take a player with #19, but I would hope not necessary.

Heh, I'm still holding onto grudges from 30 years ago.

I agree with him.
And about trading #19 + #39, I would be all for that to pick up Jimmer. Paul/Rod just said we need more 3 pt. shooting....
I don't think Jimmer will be a starter but I think he will be a good player. And I think he's definitely going to be a great NBA 6th man. Most importantly he brings scoring and 3 point shooting to a team that is in the bottom percentile in both categories.

is 19 and 39 for Sun's 13 doable?
plowman...probably since guys in the 10-40 range are seen has having good value in this draft...I think it really depends on if the Suns want a second pick this year...I think it's a good trade for both teams but both have to want to do it...lol

Based on Phoenix's past, they aren't interested in giving a rookie a guaranteed contract. They might be willing to move that pick and let us keep #19. They might want us to take on Josh Childress' contract to do that though....worth it?

9+19+39 + <player - hopefully Diaw> for the Jazz 3 and 12 picks?
Spectre, to your point on GW:
From what I can gather, Portland and the 'Cats were so far apart the previous night, that Rod and co. didn't see any possible way that would work, and told Silas such. Then Portland caved.
Also, not sure why Silas would want a veteran...we're rebuilding.

#19 is cheaper than #13...and the #39 is not guaranteed so it's the kind of deal the Suns might go for...

In regards to Crash and his "worth"...you guys know the Griz turned down the 2nd overall for Gay the other week right?
Gay is on a 4 year deal where the last year pays him almost 20 million bucks. Sure he's much younger...but that's a helluva separation in value for talent that aint so far apart.
I'd take Gay over Crash, even on their current contracts, 1000 times out of 1000.
Especially after seeing how he played this past year.
Crash has two more years left at a high level, max. Gay hasn't even maxed out.
