Found this on ROF, this morning. I don't visit that site at all, actually found a link to it on Yahoo and the title got my attention so i took a looksy: http://www.rufusonfire.com/2011/5/31/2199213/scouting-gerald-hendersons-jumper?ref=yahoo#comments
Interesting, because i've been in that frame of mind on Hendos game for....ever. Take into account, he'll be missing a whole off season to improve on his weaknesses, will he ever become more than a "curl pop n shoot" guy. Most of his shots are assisted, he doesn't have the handles to take advantage of his athleticism to get to the rack-FT line, he can't create off the dribble - pull up, he's even worse on the catch and shoot with his feet set.
He's a solid defender, we all know that, but are we kidding ourselves thinking he can reach that All Star level.

I dont think so. Hendo has all the tools to become a really good NBA player. He really has only had about 3 quarters of a year to play so I think he gets better with time we know he has the work ethic and the correct mentality to put it all together...

I've always felt that he's overrated, as are a lot of guys on the team, but that's part of the territory with fans.
I don't think Hendo is an all-star, nor do I think he'll become one. He is a starting caliber player though and I think that's just fine for right now. Him and DJ will never be a backcourt that leads you to a top 4 seed, but as it stands, they're solid enough to let us address other holes like SF and Center before we look to upgrade those spots
i have always been one of the guys along with swedd that have been saying at best he might be a decent starter. not a chance at all star. i still believe that and agree with swedd. with that said, i am no longer in a rush to trade him and would never include him as salary filler or a cheap throw in into a deal.

I agree, i think he's starting caliber, who can provide single coverage, lock down D, with the ability to knock down open jumpers...would be really good if he can add 3 point range to his game. If we can address other positions with star/superstar quality talent at SF or C or CP3, he'll be alright...but MJ's kidding himself thinking Henderson will be an All Star.
If he does become an all star, i will walk down my street naked screaming at the top of my lungs "I WAS WRONG MJ".

Hendo is the perfect guy to back up your starting 2/3. That's about it.

i don't think were overating him at all, he had a great season last time out and i think he's going to get better and better.

Hendo's all-star potential exists only because of his defensive potential. He showed signs of becoming a reliable crunch time scorer late in the season as we ran more plays for him coming off of double screens. However, if he's our crunch time go-to guy, we aren't a top 4 seed in the East.
He's Raja Bell/Shane Battier but with hopefully better offensive ability (in time).
Read that a few days ago, Rufus on Fire has picked up a lot since Cardboard Gerald took over the site (he's interning with the 'Cats for real right now, too).
The Hendo-Battier comparison is good, but Hendo is a bit more athletic. Maybe a talented Tony Allen?

Yeah, Ben doesn't sleep much
I guess it would depend on who is doing the rating...I thought he was good coming off the bench this year and has his moments as a starter...but I don't see him as an all-star...so I don't think I over-rate him...at this point he seems (to me) to be some place between a solid 6-7 guy and fringe starter...and I'm clueless on how much better he can actually get...and how he recovers from his surgery...
MJ might be overrating calling him an All-Star, but that doesn't mean he can become a reliable starter that would work well alongside the All-Star on our team...whoever that turns out to be.
And I think MJ made that remark because he believes in Hendo's ability and work ethic. Plus that public praise boosts confidence.

he can become reliable starter and at most probably one or two time all star at SG in east. but he will be starter and/or 6th man for a long time in this league as long as he keeps his jump shot improving

I don't think anyone can overrate or underrate Hendo at this time. We can discuss what we think he is capable of and we can have opinions of what we think he has done up to this point but I don't really think he has played enough to give a sound and accurate rating. What he means to our team remains to be seen and if we can get a solid amount of games and minutes out of him in his next season that he plays we will have plenty to work with.
