This is from Bonnell:

He's a big man, hopefully he can fill Oakley's shoes on the practice court (not as a bouncer or via intimidation) with Bismack

Werdann joining coaching staff?

Rob Werdann may be joining the Charlotte Bobcats coaching staff, head coach Paul Silas confirmed to the Observer Saturday.

Silas said the organization has reached out to Werdann, a former NBA and St. John's center. He's been an assistant coach with the New Orleans Hornets. He also scouted for the Hornets and was an assistant in the NBA's Development League.

Bobcats assistant Charles Oakley has been having back problems that could preclude him from continuing as a coach. Silas said Oakley is scheduled for surgery next week.

We should go after Bruce Pearl and Tony Jones as assistants. The only reason these guys aren't still some of the most successful coaches in the college game is over lying to the ncaa about a recruit going to a BBQ. We can get them cheap because of their current situation and they would bring a lot to the table.

Bruce Pearls record at TN was 145-61. He took TN from a school with no basketball tradition to the NCAA every year. He went 3-1 vs Florida in league play the years they won back to back titles despite his teams having no future nba players.

I know how much I like and respect Oak but I'm facing the fact he's going to be damned hard to replace...

Yeah, this is depressing news. I just hope the surgery takes and he'll be ready to roll the season after next. Oak was one of the few bright spots to come out of last season.

You'd think even if he can't be an assistant he could still help in some manner? Maybe personal trainer to the front court? He needs to be working with Bismack.
