View Full Version : Impossible Question
I think Wayne (or someone) brought this up in one of the threads, and I've been thinking about it for a few days. Who the fuck is going to be the captain/introduced last? Let's run down the roster, by salary:
Maggette - No way he's the Captain, he has very little leadership capabilities from what I can tell. He may be introduced last, though.
Diaw - Only thing he's Captain of is the donut line. And he's only introduced last if they think his fatass can't go out third.
Tyrus - He'd make the worst Captain ever, and I doubt he's going to be a starter, so he won't be introduced at all.
Gana -
Carroll -
DJ - He might not even be a starter by the end of training camp
Najera -
Hendo - He's a possibility for Captainship, he's got the mentality, I just don't think he has the game. And he won't be introduced last.
DJ2 - Not a starter, not happening
Bismack - Not yet. Maybe down the line, but for sure not until he proves he's better than Gana
Kemba - Maybe. I don't think you can make a rookie the captain, but you can trot him out last.
So that makes Hendo our Captain this season...God help us.

Depending on when the season starts, hendo may still be hurt. Could be or center bismack, kwame (as our most expensive free agent @ $2M/yr or Nazr (@ maybe $3M/yr if OKC doesn't resign him)

This is an impossible...thought you were BSing with the title...can we "not have a captain" this year?

Voted Henderson. He seems to be very mature and does have some leadership qualities, I guess.

I have no more guess on this than I did when I asked before. My guess is we pick up a cheap veteran? Trying to think of who would fit the bill. Out of the guys on the team, Eddie would make sense, but there's the whole issue of him not playing. If only we brought Nazr back!
The reason it's tough for me is this: unless we pick up a vet that's also going to start and is a leader type...a lot to pick up but who knows...
The rest of our roster is young guys or guys who are in no way starter/leaders...

Henderson, I really think he can develop into a All-Star. Let's just do a trial by fire; its not the perfect option but its the best option imo.

I think that if there's no clear veteran leadership, the starting point is usually the captain. Though, I don't know if that will necessarily be the same person called out last at the beginning. It's probably still DJ unless Kemba takes over.

Its frightening, but Kwame ( if he returns ) may have the best combination of veteran leadership and on court performance.
Lets say it all together.... Captain Kwame
It needs to be a starter and if Kwame comes back he'll more than likely start...actually not a bad idea...

Hendo or DJ for now. Kemba by the end of the year. But we dont even know if this is all the player's were going to have.

I voted for Hendo, but thinking about it, this would be the perfect time for DJ to stand up and show he can be a leader on and off the court. He can build his self confidence. But he fails, and also lose the starting point, then we would know whether he needs to be trade or not. The captain-ship is up for grabs, so it would be his time to seize it.

I went with DJ A since after Crash was traded last year he was co-captain with Jack. He was also introduced last at the end of the year after Jack was injured.

Captain Kwame of the S.S Bobcat. after him I would say Henderson

To promote a sense of team unity and co-sucktitude, the tankcats have elected no captains. They'll rotate two each game, rec league style.
A better thread would be, who has the best chance at the worst record next year. Somebody get on that

If you hadn't lopped gana, eddie and matt carroll together, then I would have voted for Matty C. I just didn't want you to think I was voting for one of the other two. As it stands I voted for DJ A.

Yup...especially since he was co-captain at the end of last season.

Agree with ohara and dnb..... DJ until he's traded. However, I'd prefer the no captain route right now. In theory, I guess you need one, but with such a young team, ego will just get in the way, and as evidenced by the options, nobody really sticks out as the clear cut guy.

Is it a good thing to have your captain as someone who is constantly in trade talks and about to get traded? I dont want my captain thinking he may not even be on the roster tomorrow. I vote Kemba, he has everything

Hendo and DJ co-captians. Kinda like how Crash and Jack were and how Jack and DJ were after the trade.

I can't remember, but I don't remember us having a captain the first couple years, at least not in an official capacity. If I'm wrong, who was it? BK? Maybe Smitty before he was traded?
Smitty was, Beagle. I know that much.
I'd assume it was BK after that, but I don't remember.

GW and BK the first season (but not right away), from a Feb 2005 box score..look at the names of contributors for us http://www.nba.com/bobcats/breakdown_chicago_050226.html
Starting forward Gerald Wallace, named a co-captain earlier in the day (with point guard Brevin Knight), was sidelined with a sprained right wrist.
But Teej is correct, Steve Smith was the co-captain with BK prior to being traded to Miami (prompting GW being named has the new co-captain)

I'm surprised that no one wants Maggette to be captain. Maggette's a vet and will hopefully provide a scoring punch to the team. probably willing to be captain too.
