"We’re excited to have Rob Werdann joining our staff," Silas said. "His experience as both a coach and a scout will benefit our team, especially our big men."
Don't know much about him. Potentially bad news for Oakley fans
Former 6'11" center from St. John's...played pro with Denver and New Jersey...smart guy...will work (I'm assuming) with the bigs and should help...he's not Oak but solid hire IMO...

Two things...he was with Golden State last season (is this another sign that Stephen Silas is being groomed as the next HC and getting to influence the asst coaches hired).
Cranston mentioned on twitter that this hire doesn't exclude Oakley from the coaching staff (Silas had fewer assistant coaches then LB after the transition in December). So Hopefully Oakley mends up and is back on the coaching staff as well.
Rob is a solid type hire regardless...and we can only hope the surgery gets Oak back on his feet...I'd feel a lot better about Rob and Oak together...maybe Oak would let Rob (who is in better health) get out and bang with the young guys instead of him doing it...LOL

yeah Oak is around as long as nothing really bad happens. They'll call him a scout or something before he gets completely gone. Werdann is definitely a Stephen Silas hire. Really intriguing....

I like this hire, with Oak's uncertainty this upcoming season we need a guy that can help with the bigs. Hopefully Oak can come back and Werdann can act more like an assistant to Oak. He's only 40 so he ought to be able to go out and play a bit with the big men.

I'm old enough to remember him playing for the Johnny's with Mailk Sealy back in the early 90s. Vaguely remember him playing for the Nets (more because he his NBA Live inclusion, than actually seeing him play).
I too think it's a solid hire, but we need Oak back when he's physically ready for it.
It seems to be a solid hire but the real story here is the impact that Stephen Silas is having such an impact on the hirings.
Personally, I read into this that MJ is strongly considering Stephen as a replacement for Paul when the time comes. We have talked about it before but I think this is as strong of a message as we have had so far that he has been penciled in as his dad's replacement.
