Is Corey Maggette signing with a Greek team?

If he gets hurt can we cut him without having to pay his contract?

Sorry how that sounds.

I don't think so. I remember that being a big talking point when players first started migrating. I think FIBA made an agreement with the NBA that if the players could leave whenever the league came back, they'd still have contracts over here.

If they get injured...permanently even?

In a ruling that paves the way for players to earn a paycheck, FIBA agreed with NBA and players' association officials that players are free to sign anywhere but do so at their own risk of injury.Personally I think it'd be the same as if he got injured in the NBA (only the NBA isn't the one providing the insurance...the players themselves have to, or their "new" teams). If the doctors proclaimed him "done" then we could waive him like Portland did to...what's his face? Can't remember the guy's name right now but he worked out for us last summer?

Of course that could come back and bite us in the ass just like it did Portland.

My question was more being a smartass...but you probably knew that already!

Oh okay, so I read it backwards. I knew there was some decision on it though! You're thinking of Darius Miles...... you know....... the guy who tried to take a gun on an airplane....... yeah that idiot.

And like I always tell my girlfriend, better to be a smart ass than a dumb ass :D

It'll be interesting to see if the situation does arise. I read on another link that the NBA team could "theoretically" void the contract...but I'd never heard of the guy or the site so I didn't bother posting it.

I don't know that it'd be like the Monta/mini bike event because that's flat out against the contract and as you said there is some sort of blessing conveyed...but it wouldn't shock me if someone on a tight budget (MJ) wouldn't at least look into it if it's a player who also has a bad contract (Bad Porn).

And I think my wife after dealing with a smartass for 15 years might just disagree!

It's certainly one of the more serious/dangerous aspects to the migration. Maybe an email to Coon will yield a more concrete answer? Losing Maggs' contract would be phenomenal (keep in mind that amnesty clause is still on the table), but I'm a bit wary as he's the only SF on the roster. I know we want to suck and all, but I do NOT want Dante being the only guy playing SF.

Keep that pimp hand strong!

I would love for Diop to go play overseas and get hurt. Sorry, but if we can do something to rid ourselves of his contract. Hopefully they get an amnesty clause included.

Speaking of Coon, he didn't answer my last email about Tyrus. The last address I have (that he's answered previously) is @uci.edu, but he never answered this time around. Do you have anything different?

He does have Twitter...but I don't.

I can use my student email or my regular firstname.lastname email. PM me his contact info and I'll see if I can get a response

My girlfriend's brother plays professionally in Germany. NBA players going overseas is causing a serious shift in the International Basketball landscape. For example, All of a sudden the stars on the professional teams in France are looking for contracts in Greece. The players in Greece are looking for contracts in Turkey. It's a big mess.

More on Magette from Yahoo Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/There-are-still-rumblings-that-NBA-players-could;_ylt=AvuxIgKD7ahuSyIfWgF3s328vLYF?urn=nba-wp8044)

Corey Maggette (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3336/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3336/news) is already ahead of the game in that regard. He's in Greece, met by hundreds of PAOK supporters, and while he hasn't signed off on a contract, he does seem to be enjoying the attention. From Sportando (http://www.sportando.net/eng/europe/greece/30780/corey_maggette_lands_in_thessaloniki_i_m_happy_to_ be_here_.html), here's Maggette after touching down:

"I am happy to be here. When my manager told me about the possibility to sign in Greece, I thought it was a good opportunity for me. In the next days I want to know the coach, the gym, the facilities, the city and I will decide whether to sign or not here"
