Mike Conley organizes workouts for Memphis Grizzlies (http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2011/sep/08/conley-organizes-workouts-for-griz/)
"I've been prepared all summer to do this," Conley said. "It's my job as the point guard. I want to be one of the leaders on the team. And guys did a great job of keeping their word and coming in on time ready to work.
"We found a good week when everybody could come back to Memphis and get some work in. We're going to do it again going forward. We're going to take weeks during the lockout to get together. It might be here. It might be in Las Vegas. Wherever we can get guys to meet and we can get a gym."
Where's our Mike Conley? Has DJ already packed his bags?
Maybe this is off base; could DJ already be doing something along these lines and our esteemed Rick Bonnell/Mike Cranston duo just aren't reporting it?

I have not heard anything about the guys getting together. Not sure if Kemba or Biyombo could anyway. Has anyone signed a Contract yet after being drafted? I kinda thought the FO would not sign any contracts until after the lockout.

We don't have a player on our roster that I would characterize as being a leader. Kemba has the best potential, but I'm not sure that's his personality.

I don't think they need a contract to just workout together, it would not be an official NBA workout. If players would have financially prepared for this lockout, they wouldn't have to run across seas to play. They are not pressing the NBAPA to get this done.

I would be shocked (and ecstatic) if Kemba would make the move to contact our existing guys and try to organize an unofficial team workout, especially with DJ already here.
With this existing group it would obviously fall on DJ to do it, but he's never shown the personality to take control like that either.
I agree...we don't have that player as of yet. I hope Kemba can be that guy.
Superb is right; being as how we're talking "unofficial" contracts wouldn't have anything to do with it.

I agree. But my thinking was from the player's point of view. If he gets injured, he's screwed. And slot money for a #9 pick aint chump change. That was my point.

Kemba's been playing in these summer league pick up games. I doubt what they'd do as a group would be any worse.

You know, you're probably right. I bet he's taken out a short term Insurance policy for several million to cover him.

There is a place in Charlotte called Accelerate Basketball or something and Hendo, Tyrus and Derrick Brown have been working out there regularly. The NFL guys made a big deal out of this and it's nice and all but I don't expect a whole lot of teams doing this and the ones that do will do it for show. Maggette likely to go to Greece, but hasn't signed yet, committed to that Impact basketball league. Boris is in Lithuania, unless France got bounced and if/when they do he's said he wants to play for the team he has an ownership stake in in France. Better to play in France than eat in the restaurant he owns in Charlotte. DJ is in NOLA, DJ White is in Bama and Indy, Matty C is in Philly, Diop is likely back in Africa and who cares if he's not. Najera? Kwame? Who knows? I just don't see the Bobcats making an effort to do as others are saying they want to.

Dj is in Pearland,Tx working out waiting for whatever comes of this lockout. More than 70% of his money has been saved since his rookie contract so not entertaning any over seas offers or pick up games to risk injury. A trade will be much welcomed though. Not because of the competition as you all like to put it (he didn't make it all the way to the NBA at 5'9 being scared of competion that's lame) there's other reasons. Bobctas have several guys coming off injuries and others out of the country. When calls were made three players were interested in getting together Carrol, Tyrus, and Magette.

Did DJ make the calls?
That would be good if he did, but I'm kind of shocked Cunningham & White weren't interested. Even Kwame.
Has he called Kemba and/or Bitchsmack? Last I heard Biz was down in Florida working out.

Yes he made the calls. Kemba is basically working for under armour promoting that's why he is in every glorified pick up game going. Bis ain't doing nothing until money is paid to his team and all cleared because they say so....Hopefully guys stay healthy during all these pick up games personally I wouldn't risk it the insurance has way too many clauses for the average and unproven player. Kwame had his knee scoped last month.

That's great that he took some initiative!
Also didn't know that about Kwame.
In regards to Bismack:
Biyombo, Faried, Singleton among 11 players added for Jimmer's exhibition (http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/blogsjazznotes/52569498-62/among-announced-biyombo-charlotte.html.csp)
Kemba's supposed to be in attendance as well.

Would love to see Kemba and Bis on the same team in that.
Ballwhore,
I know the history of you on this site and I truly appreciate the inside info you offer so don't take this question too personally...
Don't you think that if DJ was really a leader he would carry enough weight with his team mates to get them together, in Charlotte or elsewhere, and work out as a team? I have always been a DJ fan but I personally feel as though his leadership skills are virtually zero. What do you think since you know him?

If they are not interested their just not interested. What does it say if vets like magette and carrol are on board and others have things on their schedules. It's cool to get together and work out but it's really no big deal really. I don't see chauncey, cp3, nash, kidd or none of them calling team workouts. This lockout is not ending any time soon. As far as leadership he didn't get this far not having any and evidently Silas sees something or he wouldn't be so opposed to trading him. Anyway, right now if the lockout ended today it's highly possible DJ would be going to boston and rondo coming to you guys team. (Agent talk) He will not finish the season in Charlotte that's for sure.

There is absolutely no way the Celtics trade Rondo for DJ.

Rondo? I imagine that the Celtics would want half our team to make that happen, Right?

Pretty stupid to think it would be a straight up trade but whatever....This is something that was being worked on before Rondo re-upped his contract that didn't get done for whatver reason. Some you guys on here seem to know it all though by going on trade machine and e-mailing writers. I'm getting information from a player and his agent. It's all good though and trust while Dj may doesn't have the same value as Rondo it's beeter than mostof you on here think.

Im sure if Rondo came here we would probably complain about how he cant shoot and that puts more pressure on our other players and that we should have kept DJ lol. Im just saying ^^^^^ wouldnt suprise me haha.

I don't think anybody said straight up.
Point being, Rondo is the "future" of that franchise with the big 3 getting older every day while DJ is hardly considered a cornerstone piece. We don't have the pieces necessary to make that trade work without our team being gutted.

Rondo is one of my favorite PG's hell i model my 2k myplayer after him (with scoring ability) but I wouldn't trade for him.. Kemba should be the PG of the future, and unless you have hall of famers around him for him to dish to, he'll be an extreme liability on offense.

Rondo for DJ?? I think my head just exploded from even thought. My view
1. Rondo in no way would help us without a legit scorer coming with him.
2. Any GM who considers this trade is ether shooting heroin or should be fired.
