400+ yards in your very first game as a rookie is simply crazy. :o

Thoughts on Cam

I didn't watch the whole game, but he looked pretty impressive the little that I saw him. He looked like he could make most of the passes. Pretty exciting stuff. I know Steve Smith is happy.

I'm glad he played so well and was so accurate. It was getting rather annoying hearing analysts go off on him and practically bury his career before he played a game. I'd love to see him run a little more, but those type of decisions will come with experience. I'm very encouraged by what I saw (especially his poise) and am looking forward to watching him learn and grow.

I'm impressed. 422 yards for a rookie in his first game is quite a feat. Disappointed they lost, but things are looking bright for the moment. Plus Arizona I don't think is going to be the god-awful team they were last year.

Call me crazy, but I think the Panthers will upset GB next Sunday, and I think Newton will outplay Rodgers (though I think both players will have great days).

I hope Cam does well, but I'd be shocked if he outplayed Rodgers.

Before last year started, I made a bet with my roommates. One thought Roethelisberger (Steelers fan) would be the NFL MVP. One thought Manning (Colts fan) would be the MVP. They laughed when I said Rodgers would.

This was back when nobody thought Rodgers was the shit. Of course I was wrong, but he did get the Superbowl MVP so it's fine.

Cam was terrific yesterday. Very impressed with his accuracy, which was the big knock on him. He read the defenses well, and was poised under the fire of several blitzes by the defense. He threw the INT that was called off because of a roughing the passer call, and 2 plays later throws a perfect fade to Smith for a 27 yard TD. Poise and confidence. Far exceeded what I expected. It was against an avg NFL defense which threw everything at him to try to rattle him. What will be tough now is to do half that well against the Packer's defense. If he can complete 50% of his passes for roughly 200 yards, and throw at least equal the # of TD to INT in that game, I would be just as impressed with that as I was with the performance against the Cards. Have to wait and see. But I think most of the nay sayers have eaten a lot of crow the last 24 hours.

I'm having a hard time believing my eyes watching a rookie QB play this well... and this time against the defending champs.

It just doesn't seem like real life.

It's crazy watching just how good Cam Newton has been. I'm a Packers fan so I'm happy about the win :D, but its good to see I might have a legit second favorite soon.

You can see the Rookie mistakes. But that is inevitable. What is so good to me is that he has apparently learned so much in such a short time. People said he could not play under Center - he can. People said he was way too inaccurate. 65% vs Arizona and 60% vs Packers. People said he would run every time the pressure started rather than move around in the pocket to extend plays and buy time for his receivers - wrong there, too.

He's still going to make Rookie mistakes. But he is proving all the doubters wrong. Kid is a terrific leader and quarterback. Carolina struck gold. Now, they just have to let him continue to grow, surround him with more talent, and watch him succeed.

Ok well I was not entirely accurate here. Though through the first quarter it looked like it.

That 3rd and long GB converted in the 2nd on their first TD drive seemed like it killed the Panthers momentum. Had the Panthers made a stop, they very well could have won.

Also, team needs some work on punching it into the end zone when they're inside the 10.

I was watching PTI last night and Wilbon actually said that seeing a player this good this fast seems very Jordanish and Gretzkyish to him.

slow down wilbon. gotta love media hyperbole and hot topic sensationalism. he is good and probably will be good but i haven't seen anything transcendent yet.

Saw that, Lets see how he does this season before we jump to conclusions. Part of me doesn't want to bring this up but Ryan Leaf's first two games were very good.

Only 158 yards today, 1 TD and 0 Int. It was a monsoon in Charlotte. Cam was also off today with his throws. But trailing late in the 4th, he led a drive culminating in a 16 yard TD to Olsen and 2 pt conversion to Olsen. Panthers win 16 - 10 for Cam Newtons' and Ron Rivera's 1st win. Showed a lot today when he was off his game. Leadership and confidence and taking the game over late to lead the team to victory.

Even though he didn't have the gaudy stats, I was pleased with his performance today considering the weather conditions.

Were any of you guys there at the game? It looked like the people that stuck it out through the rain were having a blast.

I wasn't but I know a couple of people who did go and stayed for the whole game. They said a few people slipped walking up/down the stairs but were ok. And yes, they enjoyed the rain.

I was at the Hockey game last night and there were plenty of people there still wearing their drenched Panther jerseys.
