According to RGM, the Jazz are shopping them both because they want to build around Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter instead.

From other things I've read, the Grizzlies will match any offer for Marc Gasol, who I had pretty high on my list of RFAs. Another good option was DeAndre Jordan, but I'm pretty sure the Clips will match offers for him as well, either that or he'll get overvalued and too pricey. And Nene would be an awesome option, but I think he's looking for a fat contract as well that would be out of our range.

So, here we have Jefferson or Millsap... Just a couple years ago Jefferson was considered a dominant big with a bright future. Millsap has always been better than expected every year, it just always seems like he does a little bit more each year to improve and get better, and he already started with a solid foundation - high energy, board machine, nice shot, etc.

And IIRC, we had interest in Millsap at one time before, or at least it was rumored we did. I'm thinking if we amnesty Diop, why not move Diaw plus filler for one of these guys (no 1st round picks) and I would be pretty happy with our front court situation with Jefferson or Millsap, TT, and Bismack.

What do you guys think?

If we were somehow able to get Al Jefferson, he could be our Zach Randolph.

I believe we can acquire Jefferson if we give up enough. He only has 2 years on his huge contract and Jazz will be more than happy to part ways with him as they already have two big men prospect. Millsap would be a little harder though, because they can always bring him from the bench and Millsap would not make any problems over this issue.

Jefferson might help us rightaway. But I don't think Jazz would be interested anything we can send them back. Maybe DJ as the backup guard, Diaw as expiring filler and a couple of draft picks, but other than those, we have no real trade assets.

I would rather trade for draft picks instead of trading them away. Especially with this stacked draft we have coming up. Both are nice, I would definitely prefer al. However I'm not a 100% sure either will help us in the long run, so I wouldn't want to give too much up for them.

Agreed with Tam.

On the flip side we don't want to get help right away; this season we NEED to tank. Adding AlJeff would put us right back where we were before we traded Crash last year.

I wouldn't mind Milsap even tho he'd do the same thing as he would be a nice addition as a possible core piece. Thing is there's a lot of teams that have space which feel the same way.

Edit:

I'll add that some Jazz fans on the RGM trade board have been interested in DJ...not so much Boris. He's not getting either of those guys however and we have nothing else we'd give up (Smack/Kemba) they'd want.

If we knew Biyombo was going to mature into the defensive force that we hope he might become, Al Jefferson would be an interesting and complementary piece to put next to him; however, we don't know exactly what he'll become and I'd like to see him and Kemba on court before any major trades happen. Next years draft also has several very intriguing big men prospects in the very high end of the lottery (Andre Drummond, Anthony Davis) who I personally would prefer see develop alongside Biyombo, rather than bring in an established veteran.

Taking either guy puts us right back into mid level hell. We have to have Diaws money in next years free agency. Neither guy makes us a strong playoff team.
