A lot of talk about the Amnesty but not much mention of the Stretch... This seams like it may end up being used a lot.

• 2005 CBA: By mutual agreement, teams can alter the payment schedule to waived players. The remaining guaranteed salary is applied to the team's salary cap across the remaining years of the player's contract.

• 2011 CBA: The player's remaining salary and his cap hit may be stretched across twice the number of seasons remaining on the contract, plus one (for example, the salary and cap hit for a player waived with two seasons remaining may be stretched across five seasons). This is entirely at the team's discretion, but it applies only to contracts signed under the 2011 CBA.

• Who benefits? Teams with bad contracts. For example, if a team has an underperforming player with one season remaining at $12 million, the team can waive him and stretch his salary across three seasons at $4 million per season. This will help with cash flow and provide $8 million in cap relief for the current season.

The one thing to remember about this is that it is only for contracts signed under the new CBA so we can't use this for any of our exisiting bad contracts/under performers.

Hopefully with Cho in place, we can be in a position where we never have to use this (meaning we spend our money wisely and have no need to "stretch" and over paid/ under achieving players (fingers crossed)

I don't think it is a major provision. And I don't see how it would affect the Bobcats any time soon. The only way I could see it used is if you are cashed strapped and you feel like you need to add a player right now so that you can win a championship. Otherwise, splitting the money over that many more years will just mean you will be taking a cap hit for years to come.

More info on the amnesty thing.

• 2011 CBA: One player can be waived prior to the start of any season (only one player can be amnestied during the agreement, and contracts signed under the new CBA are not eligible). The salary of the waived player will not count toward the salary cap or luxury tax. Teams with cap room can submit competing offers to acquire an amnestied player (at a reduced rate) before he hits free agency and can sign with any team.Thx for the link Adam.
