View Full Version : Silas: Maggette Can Be a 20 PPG scorer... Will Be a Focal Point of the Offense

Just saw this off my FB feed, said they'll have a video up later:
Head Coach Paul Silas told media today that "Corey Maggette can be 20-pt scorer and will be one of focal points of our offense." Video of all of Silas interview up soon on bobcats.com
Sorry there isn't anymore than that quote. Just thought it was interesting to share considering some have talked about Maggs being a possible tradeable asset or amnesty casualty.

20 points on 30 shots sounds about right to me.

Ha. Silas is just praying he can be a 20pt scorer. Otherwise it's going to be an ugly offense. But this is how Silas works. He is a great about giving guys confidence. I'm sure that is what he is doing here.

Na, Salis knows we will suck. Maggs will get his 20 . Like another said with 30 shots. Just a good move by Cao to make us look like we have a scorer. All part of rebuilding.
I really hope Maggs is limited so the young kids get a lot of looks. Henderson ,Walker, Smack, I could see Henderson going off for 20 ppg with less shots.

Yeah, I think you're right bozzy. And JGib, man, I hope not. I was a huge Jack fan until we got him here and I realized all those 20+ point games came most often in a very negative-heavy, shot chucking fashion. I still love Jack, but having him here certainly took some of the luster out of his shine... That is so frustrating to watch.
From what I've seen of Maggs over the years, he has always struck me as a open-floor type of guy. He's at his best when he's running. I think he had one or two good years where he showed he could excel in the half-court as well, but those seem like the exception and not the rule. Also, could've been here I read it, but supposedly he's good at getting to the line, which is good for bailing out bad offenses, so that's a plus.
we should just refer to him as black hole for the rest of his time here. our only hope, because our offense is going to need someone to shoot and have the ball, he looks good enough for a contender in need of offense or having injuries, wants to take him on to chase a title.

If Kwame Brown could come in here and drop buckets for Paul, so will Corey.

I was half kidding about 30 shots, I think Maggette can be okay for us, 1 thing he really excels at is going to the ft line, his drawing fouls can help us by getting to the line as a team more often.
I think not having Jack (the refs swallowed their whistles) and replacing him in the line up with Mags will result in possibly 10 more FT attempts for the team this tear. That will be an interesting stat to track.

Was in Pt.2 of Silas's interview.

After reading this thread title I started to laugh. Then I remembered....it's the Bobcats. We are the only team that would do something that stupid
Even if Maggs did get 20, that still leaves about 85 points for us to be competitive, and Kemba, Hendo, Diaw, Ty, DJ, Bismack, MC, Kwame, Dante, and whoever else isn't gonna get that.

Maggs: 18 pts
Kemba: 14 pts/5 assists/2 TO
Hendo: 19 (Yes I said 19, come at me in an aggressive manner, gentlemen)
TT: 16 pts/10 rebounds
Diaw: 4 pts/7 assists/1 rebounds
Smack: 2 Pts/5 fouls
Brown: 9/9 (If he comes back, few more minutes 10/10 is very possible).
I think that sounds about right. I'm very optimistic on Hendo cos his jumper is like butter now and can hit that mid-range jumper without even thinking. Plus we all saw him tear Orlando a new one with 30+ point game.
Can we score? Probably better than last year when we had Cpt. Jack.
Damn I'm optimistic...must be because I'm thrilled for the season to start soon.

I think you are toocool.Very optimistic. I am not saying that Hendo wont average 19, or TT wont average 16 and 10. But what you have put there is like best case scenario. I am not saying one of those things wont happen, but i cant see all of them happening. That would jsut be too good to be true

Yeah. I'm still extremely high on recent events with the NBA lockout just about over. And I've always been optimistic with the Bobcats. Yes we probably will suck balls, but I'll still enjoy watching guys like Hendo, Kemba, Smack develop. When everyone started to give up on the Bobcats later in the season, I was happily watching looking at our players as they blossomed.

0. There will be no season.
Oh wait!

if you believe this, i have some magic beans for sale that i'd like to talk with about. depending on your credit, we can work out a payment plan with interest.

Will these magic beans turn into a beanstalk? Whereby I can take epic items from giants in the sky because I'm a bigger dick than Jack.

Most certainly have. I have no cow at the moment to trade for these beans however.
Hendo could more realistically average 15ppg which I would be happy with.
14ppg for Kemba sounds about right.
Maggette will average over 20 because he has to. Diaw could average 12-14 but this is Diaw we're talking about. TT will score more this year but theres no way he averages a double double.
I think what's important for us is how much can guys like DJ White and Dante Cunningham contribute this year? We saw at times they could play well in spurts but it needs to happen on a more consisten basis.
We also can't forget about Augustin.

Kemba with playing time sounds about right. May be less assist.
Hendo i agree with 19 . He really should be the focal point instead of Maggs
TT Im thinking 12 and 7 at best
Diaw 12 and 6 He will play a lot of point foward
SMACK 8pts 9boards 4 blocks
Brown 6 and 3 IF he comes back
DJ 12 and 5 if he comes back . If he comes back Kemba gets 6 and 2

I was joking around, because he probably will foul out alot during his first season.
I expect him to grab some nice boards, a sick block or two.

Hendo could easily average more. His offensive game has improved, his jumper is more smooth and his ball handling has increased. Increased confidence, legs in better shape (where he's not playing in pain) and is healthy. I think if he was one of the focal points he could easily do 18/19 points.
Diaw, we need no explaination. Was joking around with the lousy points, cos he loves to pass so much xD.
TT, yeah looking back on it his rebounds won't make 10. He should since he's so damn athletic, but we'll see how many minutes he gets. If a lot of minutes, I would expect a nice high number 8+
DJ White and Cunningham I expect to do nicely. Fill in, a few points and rebounds also.
Augustine doesn't play well from someone breathing down his neck. He had a great season, but I see Kemba as the future unfortunately.

I honestly expect Maggette to pull a Chandler when he realises how bad we are...He will get more 'injuries' this season than Bill Walton had in his whole career.
Anyway since we are talking numbers I think the following:
Kemba-14/4/4
Hendo-16/4/4
Maggette-22/6/2-30 games played
Tyrus-14/8/2
Augustin-0(confidence) ;)
Biyombo-4/6/1.5

It's called watching accelerate basketball youtube video + Bobcats training a lot to survive the off-season my English counterpart. His jumper is a lot more consistent in his release and so on. At times it was a tad shaky, but he's really solidified his mechanics. Ball handling, well you would expect it with how many drills he would have done in the off-season.

I have watched all those videos as well. I am sorry but i don't think anyone can make a decision from that. You really think accelerate basketball and bobcats vids are going to show the shots he misses? No there not. They may show the odd one but neither em or you can make that decision. Even if he has been working on it, which he didnt say (ballhandling mostly) that doesnt mean it has got better. Every player works on their J, it doesnt always get better. I am not saying it has not got better, im not saying i know anything. But i honestly dont think anyone is going to know until the season has got underway. I know you excpect his ball handling to have got better, but with no coaching from Stephan Silas he may not have made a noticable improvment. I am sure every player practices things in the offseason, yes some things will get better, some wont. How many times you think Shaq practiced free throws? He still sucks now.

2 things:
kemba may have 14/4/4 but he will have at least 4-6 TO per game. most rookies do.
diaw: let's hope and pray he actually plays for stats it is in fact a contract year for him

Obviously not, but the only way to be a better shooter is reps. He's chucked up thousands of shots over the off-season. I did the same when university holidays finished, hit the basketball court and threw up shot after shot. Repetition is what makes you improve, makes you more consistent. It's also an issue of how you practise. So many players try to do too much, instead of simple things. A dude with great potential (slips my mind) never improved because he worked on everything. Hendo's worked on two things this off-season. Ball handling and shooting. And he's a notorious hard worker. I have faith.

I agree that Kemba may be a bit of a TO machine, I think he will be better than people expect in that regard though.
Diaw to me is an afterthought, my word I hope we trade him for some form of pick.
