Grantland: The first thing you need when you enter the NBA is the perfect nickname. Do you already have any in mind? Or do you need the hookup?

Biyombo: [Laughing.] I have a lot of nicknames. Growing up my friends, my brothers, and my cousins always called me "Master." They were being sarcastic, I think, because I am always bossing them around. So, when I first step in the League in Congo, my teammates hear my brothers call me that, and they start to call me "Young Master." Then I keep growing, and they take the "Young" away, so I'm just "Master" again. Now when I go home and show up at the court, they still call me Master.

In Spain, one day when I was walking to the gym, [former teammate Esteban] Batista called me
"'La Pantera" — "The Black Panther." He just made it up that second but the name stuck. At my agent's office, I walk down the hallway and everyone says, "La Pantera, La Pantera." I like it — "The Black Panther" — that's my favorite.

Then in Portland at the Hoops Summit, my teammates were calling me all kinds of nicknames! They called me "Big Mac" and I was like, "What? What is this, Big Mac?" Then one guy was like, "We want to call you 'Big Smack.'" So I said, "OK, you can call me 'Big Smack.' I can roll with that." They had all kinds of nicknames for me, a different one every day. Kevin Pangos, the Canadian, one time he said during practice, "Dude, you're the fuckin' 'Business,' man. That's your new name." I asked why. He said, "Dude, when you're on the floor, you're all business. We're gonna call you 'The Business.'" Soon everyone was calling me "The Business." It's amazing how fast you can get a nickname. When I'm in the League, I think I'll have no choice. People will call me something, and I'll just have to go with it.

I like where your heads at, but good luck with narrowing it down to 1 that everyone will stick too.

Every time I mention him I call him a new name. I have a feeling that because he will primarily fill the defensive stopper mold his first season or two, Big Smack will be the one he gets called the most.

Bitch.

xD

Seriously though, since when is "bitch" a swear word? You can say it on the radio, and it doesn't even refer to a sex act or anatomy...

SMACK sounds perfect especially for him. Don't like bitch; think it's horribly overused. I really don't like that word and don't understand it's popularity.

Please understand for me its a reminder of abuse towards women and painful to hear. Thanks to anyone willing to show restraint.

I really don't think anyone of right mind would want to be nicknamed "bitchsmack"; think about it.

Haha Teej.
It's good to see you back after going into hibernation during lockout period, missed ya =P.
Probably since I like never swear, except when angry (then I go HULK SMASH!).
I still find it to be a somewhat 'swear' word, something I won't get used to tbh.

@Keetch, if you look at the .gif in my signature, you'll note my disdain for those who abuse women (see Roethlisberger, Ben). I understand for you that it probably carries a different connotation because of generational stuff, and that's ok. But I've never in my life heard "bitchsmack" be used in regards to abuse of a woman. I've heard plenty of other terms, but that's not one of them. In fact, usually when I've heard it, it's in regards to a guy being smacked, and never in an abusive way.

@toocool, glad to be back. I missed this place too. Haha I don't even understand a "somewhat" swear word, but whatever. I'm not one to hold my tongue, so I guess I'm not meant to get it.

agreed, no need for the bitchsmack. any nickname needs to be something that you could put on a shirt or wouldn't mind your kids wearing

Teej: I hadn't considered the connotation you mentioned but understand the meaning. Apologies for that.

It's still derogatory to women tho :P as in "hitting (smacking) like a girl"?

Ha just trying to understand this generations interpretations. For instance, I like a lot of rap and hip hop tho almost all of it is filled with the B and N word. I'm even a deep city boy (in another life); who unfortunately is way too old and white to be gangsta.

after watching that i am 100% convinced this is what i want his nickname to be. plus, how hard would it be to hire biz to cut a new track just for him? you know he could use the payday.

Let the guy play a game first before handing out nicknames. Lets see how he plays first and then derive a name from that. Jesus Christ.

Biz is really cool. Someone on the RealGM board calls him Boombastic which I also think is cool. Bitchsmack? Yeah right! I can hear hear Kenny Smith now, " Bitchsmack Biyombo smacks another one!" Seriously? :silasfail:

So it's been like a year (I went on NBA discussion strike coinciding with the real strike). But anyways, with the departure of Crash, I need a new favorite bobcat. Initial reports are for it to be Biyombo. I'm concentrating in African Studies at school and study Swahili and he speaks Swahili. Just some ideas....Swahili for rhino = kifaru and leopard = chui....no? ok well either way i'll be getting a jersey at some point. =D

I really don't think anyone of right mind would want to be nicknamed "bitchsmack"; think about it. In this vein, maybe the use of "rape" could be toned down as well. I'm pretty much as politically incorrect as they come but I've always cringed when I read a post with something like "yeah, we got raped on that trade" in it. As someone who donates time and money to rape victims, I don't think that's a term, regardless of context, that should be tossed around so casually. I'm thinking if a loved one had been raped, you'd think twice before such casual usage. Thanks.
