With the season starting on Christmas, it's time for another fantasy league to get started up. In past years we've had big numbers sign up, but not all people actually follow through with the entire season (present company included).


So we're going to try and get another league started, probably with less people this time. Terms of the league can be agreed upon among all participants. Going to target around 10 people this year, and it's first come first served

Id say it takes more effort than nfl fantasy but if you follow mlb and play fantasy baseball its very similar in the way match ups and such are done.

NFL, we get games in Aus time to time, pretty entertaining to watch but I dont follow that either.

Toocool, it takes a bit of effort at the start to do the draft and all of that. But from there, all you really have to do is set your lineups (and you can do this in advance). You can go in depth by looking at matchups and everything to see who's best. You can trade players to other teams, you can pick up players off the waiver wire or Free Agency. I guess you can say it requires about as much effort as you're willing to put in.


Pepperz, if you have faith that he'd stick to it all the way through then by all means send his email my way. If we get more signups by Wednesday-ish then we can make the league 12 or more teams

How was the order selected?

I wanted to remove myself from the ordering process to make it as fair and unbiased as possible, so I got my girlfriend to go to a random order website (http://www.firststepconsulting.com/UFF/RandomGenerateStart.asp) and input all teams for 15 rounds. The average spot for each round was then entered into an excel document where it was tallied until a total score was found. The team with the lowest total score got first place and so on.

Above, the average finish for each round is notated. As you can see, Team Sydor won going away. After him, it became very muddled with even a tie (decided by # of 1st place finishes). If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!


Special note: Draft picks ARE tradeable. I would suggest making offers before the draft on Friday.

I think the draft picks are tradeable as soon as teej finalizes he spot in the league. I won't pretend to know if every team will need to have exactly 15 picks because I've never participated in a draft where picks are tradeable. I'll do some googling and try and get a final answer for you. If enough guys decide they don't want to trade picks then I can just turn that option off. I would imagine draft day trading would be available. All trades can be vetoed if a majority (6) members vote against it. I can change that number lower if you guys want me to.

I have no problem with tradeable picks, I just guess people won't trade any anyway. Draft day trades sounds strange - I can't see how someone would want to go through traind picks during draft (I mean blank picks without players being picked) and then wait whether others will veto it or not - I guess there is at least one day to do so.

Vetoes - it depends on how active the members are, sooner or later not everyone will check in daily and thus those 6 votes would be hard to get. On the other hands those are only last safeties for cases someone would decide to help someone else rather than play normally. Everybody values players differently it shouldn't be used for Stern like hands on approach because we disagree what is best for the Hornets.

Draft wouldn't be a problem if done sooner or on different, uhm night, just in case it would take closer to 90 seconds * 15 * 10 (or 12) which is over three hours. Last round matters so autodraft is a subpar options. So everybody make it smooth and quick, please. or I won't trade with you! :)

They will, 150 players needed. Starter with touches on a bad team is often more valuable then better players somewhere else. Question how high they'll go, this being Bobcatsplanet draft, some reaches are probable.

Me and Keyzbez were having a discussion and we noticed the Matchup Acquisition Limit was at 7. Would it be better to lower it to 3 or 4 a week? Those who are more active users will be able to get an extra 7 games in. If I have a person that wont play on X day, I can drop him and pick up another player that will play. Pad your stats.

The risk of doing that is you might lose the player you drop to the waiver wire and I'm pretty sure it takes 24 hours for the new player to be assigned to your team. That said, I can move the number down if you get a couple of more votes on it

3. Find the person you want to trade with
4. Click "Propose Trade" link
5. Have fun

The draft is on Friday, so I would suggest you get to work on proposals if you want them finalized in time! Note: You CAN trade for different amounts of picks

No, I'm ok with no limit (thus would have no problem with limits as well; rather week ones than season because of the H2H format) I was just making sure.

Thats bullshit on the Gortat part. Wall is WAY BETTER then Jennings. Z-Bo is a double double monster. Hes predicted to go 20-10 compared to what Gortat is 12 and 8. How is he better. DeRozan is barely better. You can ASK ANYBODY that has knowledge about basketball will say that is unfair. Thats Lakers- Grizzlies trade. He is handing you 2 sick players.

If Gortat is better then Z-bo, why was he going in the in the 5th round compared to Zachs 3rd round.
Jenning was 7th round while Wall is 2nd.
DeRozan is a 9th compared to Tonys 10th.

This is unfair.

You're looking at it from a regular basketball standpoint instead of a fantasy one. Both Wall and Jennings are inefficient, about the same scoring, wall has more assists but more turnovers. Gortat was the 6th best fantasy Center last year, even after playing half the season from the bench.

Douglas is going to have to compete with Baron Davis for minutes when he comes back, plus Melo and Amare have to get their touches and Landry Fields is going to handle the rock too.

After a trade sent him to Phoenix, Gortat was one of fantasy's best big men with 15.3 points, 10.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks after the All-Star break... Now that he has clearly separated himself as the center of the future in Phoenix, we can expect big things from the 27-year-old going forward.

Blocks are super rare in fantasy. That's why Gortat is so highly valued.

Wall is better at steal. Better at rebounds. Potential of scoring is going up being that its his second year and being the Main guy in the Wizards. Wall avg 3 more assist a game compared to Jennings and its only expect to get better. Wall has 1 more TO. No fair.

Z-bo like I said is a double double monster. Hes better at Steals, Rebounds, and scoring. He is even a better man at assist. to say I get a guy that avgs a extra block is not even.

Player position rank should not even be tossed in there for that is so misleading. Williams is the 4th rank Pg, are you saying that a straight up trade for the 4th rank sg, sf, pf, or c will be even?

I'm not arguing that Wall isn't better. Just not drastically better like you seem to believe. Both average around 2 steals, both around 18 points, Wall gives you one more rebound and three more assists while also giving you at least one more turnover. Plus he has durability concerns. DeRozan will be a 20/4/2/1 player next year and Douglas will be 13/4/5/1, that's before thinking about him splitting time with Baron. Randolph isn't valued nearly as highly as Gortat because there are tons of ways to get points and rebounds, but maybe 8 guys who can get you 2 blocks and double digit rebounds.

just with those guys alone. You gain a point, 4 assist, 2 rebounds, and a steal but lose 1 block. 1 block is not worth that much. And im not even taking Wall Jennings comparison. Baron is injury prone so dont act like hes going to fight that guy all year long for playing time.

As far as running the league, Swedd, I don't know if they still have this feature but if they do, I'd limit the total number of games per week to a certain amount, although it won't matter much this season. But that way if my best 5 have 2 games in that week, but your best 5 play 4 in 5 nights, you can't use them all week, which keeps it semi-fair. But like I said, this season, since it's so compressed, won't make much of a difference.

As for those willing to trade, I might suggest using the trade block feature. Put up who you're willing to deal and what you're looking for in return. Making roster changes is more fun than the actual matchups to me so I know I'll be looking

if you don't like the trade, you can just veto it down. if enough people veto it, it won't go through. i voted to allow it.

i don't like the idea of limiting the number of games your dudes can play in a week. everybody's gonna have breaks going in their favor or against it. it'll even out by the end of the season. luck plays a large part in real sports and i think it should in fantasy as well.

Some other players dropped after them hit the waivers so you are probably right. When I am at it, I would like to know when I am doing a trade offer, I have to change player status of the offered ones from active/bench to trade - can they still play till trade is accepted/rejected and done/vetoed?

I think so. Trades take either 24 or 48 (don't remember) hours to pass through the veto period so I don't know why they wouldn't be allowed to play while still on your team. For example:

My trade of LeBron for Maggette gets accepted on Monday at 12PM
Trade doesn't go through until Wednesday at 12PM
LeBron will be available to play FOR ME on Monday and Tuesday

Things are easy to judge hindsight. At the time, it was a lopsided trade. If it wasnt for Z-bo's injury and NY collapse, it would have worked out really well for you.

My vote for GM of the year is In The Kut KeYzBeZ. He had an auto drafted team. Thought the draft started an hour later then when it really happen. Used the FA listing to his advantage and put together a really strong team.

Best team overall has to go to Pippen. LBJ and company on an average week are better then some of these teams on their best week. He had the best record for the year. (Even though I tanked the last week in hopes he take the my top spot from me. I didnt want to play neither Keyz or Kobe the following round. They were two teams that I found as wild cards in the playoffs. ;)

His team was auto draft compared to just about every other team. He only has 3 people left from when he first started. Right out the blocks he was at a disadvantage but he turned his team into a contender. I dont even look at trades cuz nobody wanted to do business unless they got back something so much better in return. Everybody over inflate their own players which made trades really hard to happen. There was only 4 or 5 trades through out the entire league.

Watch him upset pippin in the second round. It will be Me vs Keyz for the title with me coming out on top.

First LMa goes down and I can't drop him until a day later because he's "undroppable", then I go to add Avery Bradley because I figure two days of him (14 and 15) is better than just one of Thornton (15), only to find out Bradley didn't get added to today's roster for whatever reason so it was a pointless move. Now watch Bradley play great today and suck it up tomorrow.

In other words, I'm doing everything I can to lose this matchup.

Martin and Amare went down just last week. The same thing happen to me too with the adding a guy for today. Since I had two moves left. I thought Ill get 1 today with Favors and make the another change tomorrow but ESPN said well add him tomorrow where he doesnt have a game and you lose a roster spot. I like it overall. I would prefer if people were more active. I talked to my friend Keyz on the regular and he enjoyed it alot too. I know me and him would be interested in a keepers league next year.

The only change that come to mind at the time is....

~Take out techniqueal fouls. They are a random stat line that is pure luck from week to week. There are some players that will get some more then others but that is still a category that can determine the winner when this should be about putting together the best possible team. We have to analyse how they play and not how they control their emotions.

~Add Free throws made. With just FT% somebody can go 1-1 and will be at 100% while the other team can go 19-20 which puts them at 95%. That team that went 1-1 will win everything free throw wise.

~Take out TOs. I dont think a team should be penalized for playing their guys.

This will leave us with 9 categorizes so we can determine the winner and leave ties out the game.

I see what you mean by techs and TOs, but I wanted to include two negative categories to make people think about who they pick. Real teams get penalized by having knuckleheads like Dwight and Jack because they rack up techs and PGs like Westbrook and Wall because they're turnover machines. I thought it was a good idea but maybe I outsmarted myself.

I like the idea of FT made idea but I think it'd be better to use that category instead of %, not in addition to. I'll change that for next year.



Anybody else have any input or suggestions? I want to find out how many are interested in doing the league again next year so I can start contacting people about whether or not they want to do a keepers league

i enjoyed it. i hated the technical fouls category. i don't think i'd be a big fan of free throws made, but i'm not sure exactly why.

head to head is fun. i've never done the cumulative stats one (rotisserie i think) but that could be an interesting one to try.

It doesnt matter to me. Ill give it to you since you had the best record/higher seed. I can tell you that me and you were most def the best two teams out there. Some of my late round picks really flourished to put me near the top. Next year, Ill get you. Just need to figure out all the catgories we are going to use next year. Just make sure its an odd number so we cant end in ties.

There is no real way really. Tallying up the scores for the year may sound good but we dont crown a title winner for being the best during the regular season. A vote should not be in place for that can be subjective. Just take it for it will give me something to strive for next year. I have a better idea on how to build a team to take you down.

We tied during the season, even though I hate myself so much for i totally forgot about the MLK early games on a monday. Lose a category by 20 points when Melo scored 32 that day while on the bench. Kick myself to this day.
