The Pacers and Grizzlies are re-visiting their trade discussion from last season in which they exchange McRoberts for Mayo. I have no idea why the Grizzlies would want McRoberts, but despite some of his off-court issues last season, I think Mayo finished strong and I would love to have him here.
He's young and would be worth the investment and if they're willing to deal him for McRoberts their demands can't be that high.
What do you think?

2 2nd rounders & Trade Exception for Mayo?
Diaw for Mayo
IDK....we have the pieces to snag him. He would be a great piece off the bench for us. DJ(if not trade)/Kemba + Hendo/Mayo is a fantastic young backcourt.

Yeah, I was actually thinking if we were able to get him that either he or Maggs would become the 6th man... either way, that's a heck of a 6th man. Hendo would still be starting at either the 2 or 3 depending on whether Mayo or Maggs was the 6th man.
I think his playmaking ability and his ability to create his own shot at the 2 or 1 are a much needed asset... And without looking at the stats, I think he's a very good outside shooter as well.

He's been in the market for awhile. He's not going to the Bobcats. Save sometime and just say we're not getting any stars via trade. What superstar is going to say, "I want to go to Charlotte!"? The draft is our hope and future.
Would you send Tyrus Thomas out in exchange for Mayo?
i would send thomas out for anything that involves an expiring contract. but that's just me. his contract is terrible. but now that we have the amnesty i am in full favor of giving him this year and then deciding on amnesty or not. problem is, if you are jordan you still have to pay his salary. so if i am me, keep him and amnesty later if necessary. if i am jordan, i would make that trade all day.

Amnesty runs out December 16th im afraid so we cant just wait and amnesty him next year. Or maybe that is just this years amnesty deadline is the 16th and it opens again next offseason. All these new CBA rules are so hazy and vague, you hear different things from everywhere! Someone help me out here

There might be time limits each year (haven't seen that however), but from what I've read you have the entire length of the new CBA to amnesty players who were already on your roster prior to the new CBA.

I thought I read somewhere that you have until the 16th this month to amnesty a player for this season. I could be wrong, but I'm almost sure I saw that somewhere.
Additionally, I don't get where this amnesty TT idea came from, nor why it seems to be growing in popularity. Diop is worthless, injury-prone, and is only worth about 1/10 of what he is getting paid. TT produces, regardless of what our expectations are, and I actually think he's going to have an awesome year.

I dunno, they seem pretty comparable to me, and Henderson comes out ahead if you trust advanced stats:
http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=0&p1=hendege02&y1=2011&p2=mayooj01&y2=2011
They're the same age, although Mayo has been in the league a year longer, they were both coming off the bench a lot last year and starting some as well. This comparison is of course ignoring Mayo's very impressive rookie season and Henderson's miserable rookie season, so I guess if you think he can get back to where he was (I don't) then I understand your claim.

I know our Bobcats will lose quite a few games but with Silas they will play hard and we should see that when our team loses they will do so as a team that does not beat itself but is beat. I like Paul Silas as the guy to set us up through our rebuilding stage.

Put him here, where he's the focal point, and let him not be held back by a system that never allowed him to flourish since his rookie year. He'd easily, and immediately, be the best player on our team. Henderson's value is low. DJ's isn't as high as Lowry's. Definitely agree with this. Mayo is far from can't miss at this point. DJ and Hendo are two of our only true assets in that they're both young, capable, and fairly inexpensive. If the right deal came up, I'd trade both of them, but for now, hold the Mayo.

And Hendo isn't even a blip on anyone's radar outside of Charlotte. We love the guy, yeah, but we are used to the suck.... so far he's nothing but Afflalo without the 3pt range and even less of a dribble. DJ's on his last year and we've already got his replacement. How are we going to do better with these two guys? Mayo's floor is better than Henderson's ceiling. Its a no brainer.

Henderson and Mayo are pretty equal to me. I don't see the point in trading for Mayo when you have someone just as good or arguably better already on the roster in Hendo. And I think they will both improve, but I don't think either one will be miles ahead of each other. I certainly don't want to package an asset in DJ to get a guy we basically already have.

"Mayo was late for a game-day shootaround and was taken out of the starting lineup starting November 20, 2010.[26] On a return flight to Memphis from Los Angeles, Mayo was involved in a fight with teammate Tony Allen over a debt from an in-flight card game.[26]
On January 27, the NBA suspended Mayo for 10 games following a positive test for the steroid dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), which violates the league's anti-drug program. Mayo blamed an over the counter supplement that he didn't know was banned by the NBA for the positive test, but he declined to say which supplement he used.[27] He later said an unnamed energy drink he bought at a gas station contained the banned substance.[26]"

And you guys know as well as anyone what goes on locker rooms doesn't get equal what hits the press. Remember Gerald Wallace going after Tyson Chandler the first game of the season? Nobody talks about that. The kid got labeled, and has been, but the real issue here is that you guys are flatout delusional about Henderson's value.
He's athletic, an amazing defender, and solid off the screen from mid-range. He does nothing else well. Put that up against Mayo who's capable of not just bring the ball up, but running an offense for stretches, is a very good shooter, a good defender, just as young, and more athletic than most players of the same position. He's a legit scorer too, unlike Henderson. Oh yeah - and Henderson had that big issue with Larry Brown and not wanting to go down to D-League and the thing with him seeking other opinions on his medical issues. We know the real story because we follow the team (more than how the play actually, because the team blows) but because of that, we can tell the difference between what's reported on our team and what is actually going on.
Either way, Henderson had a nice finish to the season. He's usually terrible. Improvement doesn't mean he's going to be an all-star anytime soon. He just finally looks like he belongs in an NBA rotation. That doesn't mean he's untouchable... especially for a guy that was looking to be one of the best up and coming shooting guards in the league before his own organization screwed him over.

I've got balls of steel and thus feel free to call me out on it later in the season, I won't mind (but I have bad memory so I might forget this post ever existed, got a PM once from a certain member saying how I did something and was somewhat mocking, and I had absolutely no recollection of those posts/events he described xD)
But here I shall declare that assuming both players are healthy this season, Henderson will have just as good, if not a better season than OJ Mayo.
Plus, he gives far more on defense than Mayo ever will.

He got benched for Xavier Henry because everyone know Mayo wasn't staying in Memphis. He doesn't openly demand a trade and continues to fulfill his contract, then his owner and GM decide to draft the wannabe Nick Young and "feel it would be better if OJ come off the bench in a 6th man role". Thats BS - but even then Mayo spent a whole offseason trying to work on his point guard skills to help his team. What does he get? Nothing. But he does get to see an unproven point guard in Conley catch a huge payday and watches his organization defend Zach Randolph getting caught with weed again while he gets the amazing opportunity of getting thrown under the bus by his own FO every 4 months.

I don't think Mayo's floor is necessarily better than his ceiling. I think Mayo can be worse than last year and Hendo can be a lot better. Given that they had fairly equal stats last year, your argument doesn't make sense.
There have been tons of prospects who were teenagers that were supposed to be amazing. Most of them don't pan out. Mayo is looking more and more like one of those guys, the type of person who just can't make it work in professional basketball after coasting on talent when he's younger.
DJ and Hendo are two chips we have, even if they aren't blue. I don't want to spend them both on Mayo, a guy that was cast aside as he team started to succeed. What does that tell you?

It's not about the scoring. It's the fact that OJ doesn't seem like the kind of guy you can build around and doesn't look like that good of a trade piece. Meanwhile, we have few assets to trade. Using them on Mayo doesn't make sense, especially when we have a guy like Kemba that will likely dominate the ball in the backcourt.
And where's Keetch at? I think he loves OJ Mayo. He needs to weigh in.

Given that they had fairly equal stats last year, your argument doesn't make sense. The difference being OJ got his minutes cut. OJ's first two seasons at the starting spot he played great. What changed? Him getting shafted by the Xavier Henry decision. He was still a solid 6th man. Hendo played 3 months where he looked like he belonged in the NBA. I don't think those are really comparable.
There have been tons of prospects who were teenagers that were supposed to be amazing. Most of them don't pan out. Mayo is looking more and more like one of those guys, the type of person who just can't make it work in professional basketball after coasting on talent when he's younger. You make it sound like I'm talking about Shabazz or a high school kid or something. This is a guy who proved he could score efficiently in his very first year in the league. Again - what changed? Memphis is far from being a shining example of how to run a franchise. If anything, Henderson is the one who needs to prove there's more to his game than defense and athleticism. I like Henderson - but he's got a long ways to go.
DJ and Hendo are two chips we have, even if they aren't blue. I don't want to spend them both on Mayo, a guy that was cast aside as he team started to succeed. What does that tell you?As chips they aren't even that good of chips. DJ's going to be getting his next contract soon and Henderson is unproven at best to the majority of the NBA. "What does that tell you?" ....cmon, we could just look back on these same forums a year ago and see almost the exact kind of crap being flung at DJ. What did it end with? An apology from the ownership once the team changed hands. Mayo's not going to get that in Memphis. DJ got crap for nearly two years for being in the same situation and he was NEVER as good as Mayo was out the gate either. But by all means, lets just poo on Mayo because he's a bad guy and Henderson has a great smile and DJ has amazing trade value that will surely get us something better amirite?
Hansbrough is a big boy too. Look how that ended up ;)

I hope we trade for Mayo who seems to be getting more underrated every day.
I still have faith in him & he is still a good player who gets no props for doing what was required of him for his team to win games.
He can shoot well(38% from three) is a very good defender(no word of a lie) & can facilitate, he is the perfect foil for Kemba/Hendo imo.
To me Mayo is a far superior prospect to Hendo though I would start Hendo & bring Mayo off the bench to play major minutes as backup point & two guard, his shooting ability would be perfect next to both imo.
If we can get him for cheap then we should do it, we could even offer them DJ White & take the cap hit, after paying Z-Bo,Conley & Gasol in the last few years they would probably be open to a salary dump.
We could even offer Tyrus for Mayo/Henry(who they don't seem to be too high on after his rookie contract holdup)

The issue is maturity. Xavier Henry started over him because they knew what to expect for him. With Mayo, its unclear which version, good or bad, will show up.
Josh McRoberts does not have the talent Mayo has, but the Grizzles are trading for him nonetheless because Mayo is more than likely a cancer in the locker room. Mayo may have talent, but unless he grows up a bit his value is going to be low. Teams don't want to deal with these types of players.

I honestly havent read the entire thread but why would anyone not be pumped to see a Kemba/Mayo back court. I just read that someone said Kemba will be stealing the back court touches but that just wouldnt seem true. We all know Kemba is a great and explosive scorer but he cant do it all.
Kemba/Mayo over Kemba/Hendo by a mile. I would actually get excited about watching that back court play. Throw in a solid 2012 draft and a steal in free agency and this team wouldnt be such a meh squad.

Memphis really needs a big guy. Is there a 3 way anyone could see where we net Mayo and they get stuff to help balance their roster?

But we trade for Tyrus Thomas. Word. LOL! The argument ends there, folks. If you want to play the "troubled player nobody wants" card on Mayo, DY's got you on that one.
Not sure of his height, but Mayo's always looked shorter than I imagined him. Had 2nd row seats near the Grizz bench for a game a couple years ago and he wasn't impressive physically. I'd look into acquiring him though, for sure. I mean, it's not like we have any scoring in our frontcourt, might as well stack the backcourt with dudes who shoot.

The last thing we as Bobcats fans should ever do is get our hopes up.

fixed for accuracy and increased hurt
Difference between Mayo and Tyrus is Tyrus never got into a fight over a card game on a team flight, or failed a drug test. Tyrus' issues were, and to be honest still are, ego-centric and maturity-related. OJ's appear to be emotional and stupidity-related.
If the price was low, I'd absolutely take a flier on OJ. But I wouldn't give up a first, and I wouldn't give up Hendo.
What about something like DJ White, Najera and 2 2nds for Mayo? It works financially. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=796ot4y

After seeing that trade thought of on Realgm I knew I had suggested it before, I still like this trade more than anything involving Vasquez.
