Looks like he will be getting to work. Do you think we will match? I don't see it happening.

Good luck in Memphis, Dante. You'll enjoy playing there.

I think the offer will be something like $8 million for 3 years. If so, we should match.

Cunninghan fits well hear in a position of need . Hell now thet the roster is full we could match any offer he gets though 8 milion sounds about right.
My 2nd question is does he want to play hear?
OKC is not going to offer much . They all ready up to the soft cap . We might of had a deal we take BJ and they sign Cunningham. I don't see us matching.

I'm very interested to see the offer. As I stated in the FA thread I've read that the Grizzlies are just slightly under the LT limit. Are they really willing to become a luxury tax team?

They have contracts worth roughly $67 million right now. They also have an offer sheet tendered to Hamed Haddadi, at $2 million. Even if he signs, they will be at $69 million. I don't think Grizzlies will offer Cunningham more than $3 millions in the first year. They would sign a couple of minimum contracts at most, and they might be willing to pay maybe 2-3 millions of luxury tax. They can afford it.
And also, they have the expiring contract of Mayo ($5.6 million) which they can dump to an undercap team as soon as they wish and get under the LT limit.

OK could we sign and trade Cunningham for Mayo. It would help them cap wize?

I could be wrong but with Smack signing I don't think we have the space under the cap. Instead we should just trade 'em TT for OJ and be done with it!
Be all for it tho regardless.

They way Bonnell talked about it on twitter, he doesn't think we'll match, and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if we let him go either.

Anything not crazy we should match. If it is not longer than 2 years than it is no brainer to me.

They attempt on Cunningham because of the season-long absence of Darrell Arthur. So I believe they will not offer longer than 2 years, I suppose. Considering that we are very thin at SF/PF backup positions, especially after the injury of Najera, I believe we should match unless it is crazy, as you have mentioned. Let's wait and see, maybe they try to acquire Speights as the news suggested. In that case, Cunningham would probably take the QO.

If we can get Mayo for anybody other than Kemba, Henderson, Smack, or Williams (he's injured so couldn't anyway) then MJ should amnesty a bench guy like Najera or preferably (since Najera is a big) Carroll but that'd be like 6 million more or so.

As for Dante: good riddance.

Would it be better for us to have Cunningham on the roster or Melvin Ely ?? Does Cunningham have trade value?

http://blogs.charlotte.com/inside_the_nba/2011/12/bobcats-get-cunningham-offer-sheet.html
From Bonnell:
"The deal is for three seasons, the third season at the team's option. Cunningham would make $2 million this season -- roughly double the Bobcats' qualifying offer to restrict his free-agency -- and slightly more in the second and third seasons. So by matching, the Bobcats would be obligated to about $4 million over this season and next."
Cmon, how do you not match that?
superb1

I think they would match based on how Ely perform and Eddie being out, also on how Maggette feels. He would probably play PF more than SF, position he played in Portland. But him playing PF/SF makes him fit. But if he stays, good. if he goes, oh well, good riddance

He has trade value if Cho can work a deal with Memphis (but if we sign him to that offer and Memphis goes a different direction, we probably just overpaid for a roleplayer). Having said that, Memphis needs him more than we need him. A similar thing happened a few years ago with Gana Diop, Larry Brown was in love with him and made Dallas over pay to keep him during summer free agency, a few months later the Cats traded Ryan Hollins' $1M/year expiring contract and Matt Carroll's declining contract for Diop. Since then Diop's salary has increased and we got Matt back now...but Gana's salary hit this year is almost double what Matt's is.
Hopefully Cho can turn this into some type of asset for the Bobcats.
try to turn him into trade asset as block suggests. if not, kindly show him to the door and do not validate his parking.

I have faith in Cho. He will turn this into a sign and trade if at all possible. If he lets Cunningham walk, he does so because it is in the team's best financial interest.

He has already signed offer sheet. We will either match it or let him go. What S&T, what Mayo are you guys talking about? Come on.
Back to the topic... I think his contract is matchable, and I think we will match.

Yeah I think the S&T possibilities are goine once he signs that sheet.
I'm leaning towards matching it too. Remember we're all about assets now, so you have to consider which would be worth more: Melvin Ely or Dante Cunningham on (basically) a 2/4 year deal.

The offer sheet could not have been better. Easy decision to match. Once Ely knows, Higgins can confirm that.

He probably knew that if Bismack is cleared to play, his chances to make final roster would be much slimmer and he may have been cut during season once Bismack could arrive if he would make it. That's why his contract is not guaranteed. He didn't know about Mullens though. On the other without Mullens Bobcats would probably sign a big combo guard to back up DJ and Kemba.

Thanks.

We have 13 players under guaranteed contracts (Maggette, Diaw, Thomas, Diop, Carroll, Augustin, Najera, Williams, Biyombo, Walker, Henderson, DJ White, and probably Derrick Brown). Plus we have Ely, maybe Cunningham and other training camp signees.
The salary total of the 13 players mentioned above makes approximately $ 56 million. If we match Cunningham's, say it's $58 million with 14 guaranteed players. The last player is expected to be a minimum contract, the total wouldn't exceed 59-60 million for this season.

Awesome Tam, thanks! Figured I could count on you!
So this doesn't necessarily mean the end of Ely if we match Dante, but odds are we're looking for another guard.

If we match and let Ely go (assuming none of his contract counts, I don't even know what his contact is), we are less than 1M over the cap. So now we are slightly less than 1.5 under (without Ely). We have 15 players and would have to cut Ely (who should be only non-guaranteed contract) to match Dante's offer sheet.
Tamburello is right except he forgot Mullens (1.288.200 this year).

Really sorry. Of course we have Mullens as well. So we have 14 guaranteed contracts, if we match Cunningham, it is 15 and done.
Thanks for the correction.

Nice catch Doc! I forgot about Mullins too.
So Ely WOULD be gone. Oh well, best part about him was the beard anyway...and it looks like he cut that.
...and I still think we need a guard. The only other minimum is UPS right? Best case probably would be a trade so we don't have to eat any salary.

I really think both Najera and Ely are gone if we match for Dante. We need that third, combo guard really bad IMO.
DJ/Kemba/?
Hendo/Hammer/?
Maggette/Dante/Reggie/Brown
Tyrus/Bismack/DJW
Diaw/Diop/Mullins

I hope not. I'm afraid if it came down to eating salary vs losing an (albeit minimal) asset Jordan would punt instead of stepping up to the plate. Couldn't really blame him...but we have so few assets as it is.
Cho needs to find us a trade.

Well with Najera out for about half the season, I see it as a bit of a different story than Diop. He'd end up eating about $1 mil in salary. Can't see him whining about that too terribly much. I DO see a trade on the radar though, so maybe we'll get it figured out sooner than later

I had totally forgotten that RGM had a trade checker.
Most likely all unguaranteed Dav. Maybe they have to submit some type of contract just to let them scrimmage.
Best bet is to use Storytellers or Sham, but as rosters are in flux at the moment none are probably absolutely up to date.

Ive just read on Queen City Hoops that Dupree, Blalock and Muhammad were cut. So it makes 18 with Uzoh, Summers and Griffin likely to be cut and if not then it would on expense of Ely.
