I need to ask your opinion on the recent violence during the holiday shopping season about the release of Air Jordan XIs. Should Jordan and Nike take some responsibility in not doing more to stem the violence. I don't know how where to stand except the timing was questionable. On the marketing side, it was great but helps fuels shopping craze during the holiday rush.

here's an article written on it. http://espn.go.com/espn/commentary/story/_/id/7393317/michael-jordan-nike-do-more-stem-violence

While he is doing that, maybe he can cure cancer and AIDS. On a personal note I would also like for Unicorns to be real.

Jordan makes shoes, people can buy them or choose not to... he can't help it if some dumb fucks kill each other over them.

x100000 Agree. He sells shoes; he shouldn't be in charge of keeping order.

people that fight and kill each other shoes can not be helped. this is the libertarian/conservative in me but until they want to help themselves and take responsibility for the state of their lives and quit blaming others and living off of the rest of us, there is not much that can be done to help them.

You are always have dumbasses, granted that. People have been killing for the stupidest reasons forever. But as far as the marketing of them during Christmas and the hysteria it causes, I'm referring to the Black Friday like atmosphere it causes among shoppers not criminals. They marketed as limited edition so the average mother had to get little Timmy a pair since he held out on any other gift for Christmas. Retailers should have known the potential danger, true and alerted police of the that danger. But are Nike just looking the bottom line. I think the release around Christmas was genius as afr as marketing strategies but to what extent though.

Not that this is the same category, but I think people who wait for hrs or days in line for shoes and things of that nature ie. Black Friday, have some serious issues..

First of all i re-read my post and wanted to make sure you didn't think my sarcasm was directed at you superb1. It wasn't. You merely brought it up as a discussion... my disdain was directed at the scum bag Jemele Hill. I don't want to give her anymore breath than she deserves... so ill stop there.

What kills me about the whole thing is what you said right here "They marketed as limited edition so the average mother had to get little Timmy a pair since he held out on any other gift for Christmas" If little Timmy's mother thought she "had" to get her son a pair of 200 dollar tennis shoes... and got shot in the process, then maybe natural selection was just doing its job.

If they were concerned about the bottom line they would have released way more pairs than they did. The simple fact of the matter is that Jordan/Nike have been releasing retro versions of his shoes for over a decade now. This isn't even the first time the XIs have been released.

You can't fix stupid.

I know, but I have this feeling that sometimes companies like Nike and others (many others, not picking on Nike personally) fuel the consumers with advertising, etc. with no regards to the results. This dumbasses just feed into it. Like throwing meat to a pack of wolves and watching them fight for the enjoyment of it. No one is the blame but they all responsible in some way. Me, personally would have not been caught fighting to get some shoes. I knew someone who got in a traffic accident being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It's not like the bigwigs at Nike were sitting there conspiring with each other like, "Ha I have the greatest idea. Let's release the Concords in only like 10,000 units and watch everybody go crazy fighting and shooting each other over them!"

Yeah in my opinion this isn't a discussion, he sells shoes period. What people do to get them is on their own self control. You cant penalize a businessman For having a good sales model. Killing over shoes is so far out of a logical conclusion it is absurd to think they should take ANY responsibility.
