Timothy Varner, 48 Minutes Of Hell: Byron Mullens is an emerging player, but only in the sense that he is emerging from complete and utter anonymity. As the season progresses, I suspect Mullens will regress back to his career averages.

I thought I might find BJ on the list of most improved, and then caught this later in the article.

The guy's career averages are 4 points and 2 rebounds in about 5 minutes a game. Does this guy really see Mullens not getting at least double or triple that?

How can he be over-rated? He was never rated to begin with. Ha

We need to start this guy. Silas needs a dose of reality, because Mullens has been our best C so far.

Even when his shot isn't falling, this guy hustles his ass off. Love his attitude and drive.

He is also our best free throw shooter somehow.

WOW , I can't belive how stupid some of thease reportors are. IT'S inpossable,; hes scored more this season than he did in two seasons at OKC . Its no other player averaging 2 and a half times his average in the league.
They could at least say the kid has played decent?

He will average more than that for sure. But i take his point, there has only been so much hype as we had NO expectation of him at all

Exactly.

I'm there. If it was up to me Mully would start and Smack would get as much backup minutes as he could handle. We're aren't winning squat anyway and it's not like Gana has any future here.

But has there been that much hype? Enough to warrant a blogger/columnist/journalist/clown to say that he's overrated?

I know we're excited about him as fans because we don't have a whole lot else to be excited about. I'm just surprised.

It's the multitude of Bobcats Nation. When we get excited everyone pays attention.

What are the qualifications for most improved player, I think BJ has to be in contention at season end if he continue to improve. This has to also go down as one of the best acquisitions in team history since Crash. Don't want to sound too homerish but last night he stayed consistent while the rest of the team failed. If he starts and put up 15+ ppg and 10+ rebs this has to go down has a coup

go down to career averages? what does that even mean? I feel like that sentence implies pre-Bobcats career numbers, which makes Timothy Varner clueless and wrong. But its easy to just make some shit up about Byron Mullens cuz you'll probably never get called out on it by anyone on ESPN

4 pts 2 rebs in 5 mins
8 pts 4 rebs in 10 mins
12 pts 6 rebs in 15 mins
16 pts 8 rebs in 20 mins

Increase mins increase production. Common sense math right?
Mullens in ten games is avg'n 19.3 mins 11.0 pts 4.7 rebs
Almost, but missed on the rebs. Still good stats for a no name brand random 7'0er .
I don't think you can be overrated when no one knows who you are.

From Hollingers insider

All-Suspected Surprises team
Which players have exceeded expectations so far? (PER Diem: Jan. 11, 2012)

Byron Mullens
The most shocking moment of the season for me came in the Charlotte-Cleveland game, when Mullens scored on four straight midpost isolations -- the last two coming against Cavs defensive stalwart Anderson Varejao. Yeah, this dude can score. The 7-footer has shown a sweet stroke, shooting 49.5 percent from the floor and making 20 of his 21 free throw attempts; he's also scoring in bunches for the otherwise points-starved Bobcats, pumping in 22.8 points per 40 minutes.

His game still looks a bit one-dimensional, but he's only 22 and has virtually no NBA experience. It seems obvious that the Bobcats need to get him more playing time as the season goes on, and it wouldn't shock me at all if he's starting by midseason.
