I want to know which video games you think are classic, defined as games that are must-plays.

This is more for me to find out about which games I should play than to spend a lot of time arguing over what is and is not classic.

I'll throw a few out there:

* I don't really like these games all that much anymore, but played them tons back in the day.

I never thought red dead was that good, tbh after the story mode finished I thought it was pretty boring, especially online

I only played the story mode, but that story was very good ( even though I'm not a big fan of westerns )

Another game that I just thought about was one that I loved, but just about everyone else seemed luke warm on was Borderlands.

Probably one of the most underrated game on PS 2. It had a actual down to detail map of London, great car chases, crazy missions, awesome storyline, terrific voice acting. I spent many a hour playing this game to bad the series was ruined when the second Getaway game came out.

Dante's Inferno is a good game overall. The game play gets kinda repetitive but the storyline is fun to play through. You get to choose the dark or the light path. You can either bless the souls you kill or since they are already in hell , totally obliterate them. Which to me seems like the easy way out. I went half /half but more to the light side. I heard if you are evil you just take over hell, I wanted to see if Dante could get out of hell.

I'd list Tecmo Super Bowl for NES and NBA Showdown '94 for the Genesis, but I'll stick to games from this console era that I fell in love with:

Bioshock (easily number one)
Dead Space series
Mass Effect series
Fallout 3 (you already listed it, but it's too good not to mention again)
Gears of War series (especially if you have a buddy to play co-op with locally or Xbox Live)
Dragon Age: Origins
Red Dead Redemption (much more fun than the snooze-fest that was GTAIV)
Alan Wake (as an English major, I think you'd dig the meta quality of the game...plus great atmosphere)
Batman Arkham City
