The Trailblazers have not extended Nicolas Batums contract leaving him free to go into free agency as a restricted free agent. I think Batum is a stud I predict him being a lockdown defender and a good 3pt shooter, basically Tayshaun Prince. What would be the kind of offer we would be happy extending to him if we want him at all.

I am not sure i can take any more French players.... Ajinca and Diaw have destroyed my faith. But seriously... i would offer him 6-7 mil, nothing over. There has been a lot of hype about him and he has yet to deliver thus far

CJ Miles also is a free agent unrestricted.
He is young(24) and he have lot of experience in the NBA (6 years).
I think he´s a good option if we do not get a better SF.

If we don't go Barnes and take Davis or Durmond, I expect us to make a big offer to Batum . It might be a mistake but i think he gets 10 mil a year . I don't know much about Miles game. Wallace might be a thought all so . I don't know of many free agent s/fs worth going after. Ive thought about this a lot and keep coming up with Batum.

I think that Batum and Wilson Chander is the better that they can get in the free agency for the SF. They are young and they have potential. Gerald Wallace and CJ Miles could be another options...

If we draft Davis then I would love to see Batum on our team a starting team in about 2 years of Walker, Hendo, Batum,Davis and Biyombo would be formidable add in maybe Mullens off the bench and take away Diop and Tryus's terrible contract and I think you have a perenial playoff team

If we offer him 10 mil a year yes that is a MASSIVE mistake! Come one, lets get serious!? What has this guy done to warrent 10 million a year

Interestingly a POR fan posted the idea of a DJ for Batum swap. The consensus is that Batum is worth more...so I thought about throwing their pick back to them and they in turn toss us a 2nd rounder.
I'm worried about what he'd demand in RFA tho. He very well might want 10 million and there's probably some stupid GM out there that will give it to him. I'd sure hate to give up that pick for nothing (or an overpaid slightly above average wing).

I don't want to give up any pick either , At best we make a offer on the free agent market. Word is hes the best s/f in free agency . Like you guys i don't want to over pay for him . But im thinking he gets close to the 10 per number. Word is Portland is more instreded in him than crash.. If Durmond isn't coming out . I would like to see us make a run at Hibbert. Though im thinking its going to take between 9 and 12 per to land him . But
Kemba , Hendo , Batum , A Davis , Hibbert . If we could land that TT, would have to go and we couldn't sign DJ til after we signed the other two. Talk about from shit to the playoffs in one season
Wow i was just guessing in Hibberts value.

Yeah that's a problem. We're in the 3 yr transition period to the new CBA and there are too many teams right now with a lot of free cap space. I imagine both Hibbert & Batum will get a nice retail contract.
In the end I don't see us in the hunt for either.

because of this he won't be worth his contract. i am skeptical of him anyway. the blazers fans and team are far more optimistic about their "budding stars" than they should be. they went ga ga over rudy f for years until they were 6 days late on realizing he aint white mike. batum to me is a great prospect but i don't see him worth anywhere near 8 million per year which he will probably get more than. before we commit coin to a piece we need the building block.

I for one would love to make a run for Hibbert. I think he would be worth 4 years 48 milion. That is if we don't go after Durmoud. I would even go 4 years 32 milion for Batum. I really don't think that would land either tough.
Best thing ever would be Cho finding a way to get Barnes and Davis
Would any body make a offer for Beasley . What kind of value . Im thinking three years 21 milion.

the short is no. i don't want to clog our roster with young guys who are now overpaid but are basically disappointments. i would rather plug our roster with young draft picks hoping one or more than one is a home run and minimum to less than 4 mil per year guys until we know what direction we are going in

Basically what Chef said. We're just not in the position now to mess with free agency unless there someone who's "can't miss".
DJ White at 2 million would be that...DJ White at 5 million isn't.
As an example.

Along with Spectre and Chef, and based off the fact that we are a horrible collection of NBA talent right now, we need picks...the picks, the rookie scale and Cho protect us from making any monumentally stupid decisions (Ajinca, Diop, extending May & Morrison the last time around). We make trades only if it gets us more draft picks down the road and doesn't come with back-ended cap space.
The reason for all this? besides our past mistakes, is we need to put as much time between the current CBA and when we have to start making big-boy decisions on how good a '2nd-contract' player is going to be (2nd-contract being, off the rookie scale, when they feel they are due the world, yet don't average more than 10 in any combined catagories (pts, reb, ast, etc). The new CBA, by the virtue of dropping from 57% to 50% is a 15% drop in comparable salaries, that drop HAS to come to these non-superstars during the next 2-3 years. Let's watch as other GM's make the bad long-term decisions that will only pan out if the NBA product skyrockets and the aforementioned 50% is based off a lot larger number due to the overall growth of the NBA.

Damn but that's an excellent point! Case closed.

Would anyone think of offering a short but well paid contract to either Batum or Beasley, I think that we could help Beasley or Batum build up some more value. If they build up their stock we trade them while the goings good if they don't we keep them and let there contracts run out. Thoughts?

Beasleys in Minnesota so Charlotte kinda seems favourable, plus I could see him having a big role when the offense stagnates

But if it is a short contract, then teams may not want to trade as they don't want to rent him for a season or something

What would really be a dream is if Orlando let Dwight go and by some miracle we scooped him up. Lawzy....yes.

See guys i see things a little different.
I see our core as being futher along than you guys ?
With Kemba as our long term point , Henderson , s/g At this rate i see A Davis as a long term p/f and SMACK our long term center . DJ may all so be long term core .
I see some rotation players in place . LONG TERM , R Williams , Mulley, DJ White if the price is right.
The best small foward on the market i see as a need in free agency. And a scorer [ J Crawford]
See i don't want to wait til the 2014 season to start trying to make noize.
So am am of the thought of start trying to win in 2013.
Depending on what we do with TT we will have between 10 and 18 milion to get two nice pieces,
With about 20 more milion comeing off the books the next season to make any needed moves.
This being done with out giving up draft picks .
Next season wish list?
Kemba, Crawford 4 years 24 milion
Henderson, R Williams ,
Free agent , maggs
A Davis. , DJ White
Smack, Mulley
So our core could start working toghter next season,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Portlands pick and how ever many first we can add to that . Would love to move DJ and Diaw to get into another 1st round pick. Trading with the lakers for picks would be perfect . useing thair player exception
