So hey guys.My name is jason and i've posted on here from time to time over the years and have followed the site since the beginning.I have a buddy of mine who has a a few local pizza shops around the triad area and he is going to be opening 2 charlotte area locations and one in waxaw in the next year and is recruiting me to be a g.m. @ my choice of the new locations. It really depends on if we can agree on money, seeing as i've with my other company for 4 years and do very well. However, I would love to come to charlotte and would just like to know how many of you guys live in the area, what you think of it, and what section I should get season tickets in if i move.I can't really talk about the company because even if i take the job we're not supposed to put anything out there yet.All i can say is my guys are from nothern jersey, it's awesome food, and we'll all be really fat! lol. I will tell you guys more when i can, but in the meantime, i don't know anyone in charlotte except my aunt and uncle in mathews and few cousins in kannapolis. So if i do move here, i gonna need some new friends.Any thoughts on the city or info about yourselves would be cool. Thanks guys!

Welcome we hope . Charlotte is clean for a large city . But still we prefer to comute from Belmont Its just about 15 mins from up town . Has less trafic. My boy lives uptown and walks everwhere . He loves the citys night life. Over all its a great city to live in.

yeah, i know my way around a little bit, i just don't know much about living there. We're still scouting locations(assuming that i take the job)but i would prefer to be near uptown.I was thinking about starting my search somewhere off randolph road. It's seems pretty nice, it's close to uptown, and my aunt and uncle live in sardis forrest in mathews,so it's not too far from them either. But if you guys know of any good places to look let me know.

Jason, I've lived between Concord and North Charlotte for 20-plus years. I guess any recommendations I have would be based somewhat on your age, your marital status, and hobbies/interests/income. Do you like newer housing?? Do you like suburbs?? Do you want to have nightlife right outside your door almost every night?? Do you like an artsy scene?? Do you prefer to be able to walk to things??
Honestly, if money were no object, I'D be looking at Fourth Ward. Especially if I planned to have Bobcat season tickets. It's right there downtown, but it still feels like a peaceful neighborhood when I walk through it. But I'm guessing it is way out of the price range of anybody here.
The last I checked, areas off Randolph Road were good. Older, but with character, and kept up well. Not too far from some action. At least the last I checked. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, because it's not like I'm down there all the time.
If you are in your early-mid 20's, the University area still might be to your liking. It is diverse. It's not all that picturesque. But there's stuff to do.
I hope this helps, and I hope it all works out. Let me know some of your criteria if you like. I love living near an NBA city.

I live in Matthews and take Randolph road to Sardis Road every game. If you are looking to rent an apartment, you'll find the feeder streets to Uptown that parallel Randolph are Monroe and Independence to the East and Providence, Park, South and Tryon to the West (of Randolph). I'd suggest doing the round the clock observation before you pull the trigger on any spot (go to the place, roll down the window and listen at 3 am, 9 am, 3 pm, 9 pm...that way you'll know if an interstate, train, bus route, whatever is something that you want to avoid). Of those, the scenic drive is probably nicest on Randolph, Providence and Park. Independence is the largest of the roads and South would provide light-rail as the logical choice uptown.
If price isn't an option, just outside uptown in the Dilworth area might bring you a place for 1/2 the price and twice the space (but still more expensive then places further from uptown). It's definitely a buyers market so you are picking a great time to move to the QC. And for game time, if you live & work south of Uptown, traveling to the Cable box will be in opposite direction of rush hour 'traffic' so timing shouldn't be an issue (take me 20 minutes to go 10 miles, because of speed limit on Randolph/Sardis and stoplights, not traffic).
Best of luck with the job opportunity.

Jason, hopefully this is a welcome to the area. My wife and I have lived either together or on our own on Randolph (Eastover Ridge), Dilworth (condo rental), Selwyn Village, off of Independence (apt complex near Matthews), Harris Blvd (apt complex near Albemarle), Chantilly and Plaza Midwood (on our second house in PM). We also have a house in Plaza Midwood that we rent so you could say we are kinda biased at this point. I would echo what another poster said about living along Randolph and heading to games - you'd be going against traffic so that should bode well for you (but this is true for Chantilly, Elizabeth, Plaza Midwood, Dilworth or South End too).
If it were me, I'd look at these neighborhoods and I'd try to canvas the area outside of 277 from South End to NoDa (ergo, South End, Dilworth, Myers Park, Eastover*, Chantilly, Elizabeth, Plaza Commonwealth, Plaza Midwood, Country Club Heights, NoDa, Eastway). Inside 277, you have some great options too in the Wards but you might find that you give up a fair bit in size for the price compared to what you can find outside 277.
Some of the benefits of living in these interior neighborhoods is that they tend to have active boards and try put on community events (mostly centered around their parks) and most of these I listed above have bars, restaurants and other businesses that you can walk/bike to (and many are trying to encourage this). You might be able to get a feel for these 'hoods by taking in the bars/food/night spots that are in them and see if that fits your style. After all, it's pretty cool to be able to walk to dinner and a neighborhood bar when there isn't a game going on :)
Best of luck.
P.S. several of these neighborhoods have a web presence that can help you get a feel for what they have to offer:
http://chantillycharlotte.com/ - Chantilly
http://www.elizabethcommunity.com/ - Elizabeth
http://www.noda.org/ - NoDa
http://plazamidwood.org/ - Plaza Midwood
* more for rental apts/condos vs. purchase as this is really pricey

Thanks, you guys are really awesome, especially for the links on the apartments.I'm 34 so whoever said early 20's your very nice!lol. As far as noise goes it wouldn't bother me.My parents didn't have alot of money when i was young and we grew up in an area with railroad tracks behind us and it was right where the planes started their approach for the airport,so believe me, i can sleep through anything.I talked to my aunt in mathews and she suggested the dillworth are.I can tell you that i've done my partying and generally i just like going to places like rock bottom, charlotte beer and ice, and fox and hound to have a few beers and watch games. What i'm really looking for is to rent a house or condo from an individual, not a property group. That's what always done in greensboro, and usually it will save you alot of money in the long run and alot of those places are in cool neighborhoods that aren't listed in the supermarket crap mags.As of the last few days, this looking very much like a go, so if any of you guys know anyone that has a house or condo to rent let me know. It's just me, so it doesn't have to be huge.Im pretty simple as far as that stuff goes. And when i get there, we need to start a pic section from games, i think that would be cool!
