View Full Version : Armon Johnson, Wilson Chandler?

I read last week that six teams plus the Nuggets and Raptors were interested in or talking with Wilson Chandler. I asked a couple of the NBA writers about it and none answered back, as to whether we were one of the teams.

Also, apparently Armon Johnson or Greg Oden may be waived from the Blazers to make room for Joel "My Knee Hurts So I Won't Play Because I Got Traded, Boo-Hoo" Pryzbilla (f'ing bum).

I think Chandler would be an awesome piece to add here. He is young, talented, and to me, from afar, has always seemed like a really good "core" player for any team. I would love to have him, it wouldn't go against our "building with youth" philosophy, and shouldn't break the bank. I don't know if we're interested, but I really hope we're one of the teams and we have a serious shot.

I also think Armon Johnson would be a nice, young piece to add if he is waived. I have a feeling they'll let Oden go instead though. If they let go of Johnson, I have a strong feeling that Cho will jump all over that. He'd be a great combo guard coming off the bench, could back up both spots, and allow Reggie Williams to primarily play at the 3 behind Maggs.

What do you all think?

As a lifelong Knicks fan (I know....hahaha), I am a big Chandler fan. He fits a need and was a major piece in acquiring 'Melo. Young, athletic, and can play either the SG or SF spot, though he's a better SF. If the price is right, I'd love to take a look at him, while jettisoning Maggs out. It would also ease the burden of not taking a scoring wing this year and seeing if he can be a core piece moving forward. A very "Cho" type of move. I wonder what the asking price is.

Completely agreed PC. Everything I've seen from Chandler, I love. And that's exactly my line of thinking - bringing in a young, talented guy, and push the older one out (Maggs). If we got him, he should start.

I would want Chandler here.

What kind of offer do you think he will get from teams?

We don't have near enough cap room to sign Chandler. We're sitting at about 150K right now. I imagine he'll be getting offers from the pro-rated $3-5 million range so we'd have to make some immediate moves

I'm no cap expert, but according to the Observer article, we're "just under the cap of 58 mil" so that puts us 12 mil below the luxury tax, and we have a 3.5 mil trade exception (which I assume can only be used in trades). But, can't we sign him to a MLE for the year and then structure bigger years after?

I think he's in the 5 mil per range.

According to Sham, we only have the "mini" MLE to offer. (2.5mil)

EDIT: Looking at the team salaries, it looks like the deal Reggie got (2.5 this year) is where the other half of the MLE went

unless we can offer 2 or 3 mil per year more than anyone else, don't think it would happen. why would he come here?

No way we'll get Chandler. Armon would be a nice pick up since there is no possible way that he could be worse than Higgins.

All for Wilson, which is why it won't happen.

Armon waived, now let's see if they go get him.

Again guys, the $2.5 million we have remaining to offer wont be near enough to get Chandler.

And Armon has played a total of 5 minutes this year, even with fat Felton struggling so much. He's also a career 3/1/1 guy while Higgins is a career 4/1/1. Is he better than Higgins? Yeah probably by a limitless bit. But I doubt Cho sees the value paying essentially double for Armon assuming he takes the minimum since they still have to pay Higgins if he gets cut.

Works for me and amnesty Maggs.

I don't think if you are looking at our team objectively, you can think that using our one-time Amnesty is best used on Maggette.

Yeah there's no hope for Wilson Chandler here. If Cho knows something about the Johnson kid I could see them spending for that as it's not really that much, and Corey's salary is already guaranteed for the rest of the year anyways. I could see them doing that if they feel like they've given Corey a good enough chance, which I feel confident in believing he's not our Jeremy Lin, lol.

So, the Blazers waived Armon Johnson. Now, I forgot the Higgins contract was guaranteed now, so here is what it comes down to... Does Higgins allow his son to be waived in order to pick up Johnson? No, he won't.

I doubt it, and from a financial stance, I don't blame the FO. is Armon a difference maker, I don't know much about him, to make a judgement but from where I sit I don't think he would be worth paying Corey to sit at home if we waived him to pickup Armon.
