Greetings fellow philosophers. Long time, no see.

Was trying to find a way to get any sort of trade worked out for Diaw. After giving up, I started trying to find a way for the Cats to serve as a facilitator in other trades and came up with this scenario (http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6omrl4q). Curious to get folks thoughts.

Cats Get:
Goran Dragic (Expiring)
Kevin Martin (1 more year, $1 million over Maggette)
DAL first round pick from LAL
Right to swap 1st round picks with HOU

Rockets Get:
Pau Gasol

Lakers Get:
Louis Scola
DJ Augustin
Corey Maggette

Lose only DJ and Corey, Gain 1st round pick and Kevin Martin.

Yes Please.

I don't want Martin as he is not need on the team because we have Hendo. I did alittle better while getting some key players at positions we need. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=72bczez The picks included still along with the swap option of swapping with Houston has a nice touch as well.

Just a side note hear . But i would love a way to give this guy a chance. He could score his ass off in college. If he got playing time he could score . Hes averageing all most 25ppg now.

Perhaps I should have elaborated on some of the particulars. The goal of the trade is to get an additional first round pick, not to win games. Maggette is not a longterm piece of the build and DJ is likely not either. He and his agent seem to be looking for more than the front office is willing to pony up. If he is going to walk, he should be shopped. Not sure we are getting a better pick from either or both of these guys.

bobcats & lakers in talks...LA trying to use trade exception CHO trying to get third team involved (Orlando) don't know all the specifics yet because he doesn't know either but Gasol, Howard, DJ White, Matt Barnes, Jameer Nelson to name a few mentioned to be invovled..bottom line DJ ends in LA seems Charlotte is said to be trying to do too much so maybe deal won't happen but a straight up trade is what LA is trying to do and DJ is being shopped.

DJ for the exception straight up? LAWL

Have heard chatter of Diaw for LAL trade exception, to facilitate a trade for LA to get Calderon, but that would run counter to Ballwhore's intel.

That connection with Diaw going to Toronto via the Lakers makes sense - is Colangelo still in Toronto? He loved Boris in Phoenix, and we all know the French connection with Canada so both proposals may be true here with the Lakers looking to shake things up.

Maybe it's a DJ vs. Calderon situation for LA - contract wise DJ makes a lot more sense, the Calderon thing may be a fallback option....

Yeah that is a joke. Would one of their picks be enough with the TE? I doubt we'd get both.

Personally I'd rather Blake + both those picks but I know we're leary of taking on any salary. Blake would fill a role however.

I just hope Cho is given the green light to do what he thinks is best, and MJ does not try to muck things up. May be a lot to ask, but I can hope.

Has DJ had enough of Charlotte and ready to hit the door. Has he said any thing about tension between him and Kemba?

Not that I have heard but the consensus seems to be that we either trade DJ now or hold on to him and not be able to match an offer and lose him in the offseason.

It's about to go down, http://www.hoopsworld.com/lakers-to-trade-pau-gasol. I can only imagine what pieces we are going to get. A third team has to be involved for all the salaries to work because LA can't take back that many players for Gasol.

id trade dj for that pick from the lakers...then use our trade exeption to get a pick...if its that simple...but no surprise dj is being shopped...kemba has played great these past few games...except for tonight but he's definately developed as a pg

I think everyone realizes DJ's gotta go. After watching D. Will destroy our midget PGs, we just can't keep both of them. They produce about the same #s, except one is in his 4th year while the others a rook, and the 4th year vet is about to cost a lot more. The one thing I always wanted out of DJ was aggressiveness and attacking (which he hasn't shown except a couple times a year when he gets angry), and Kemba oozes these qualities.

I think DJ is about at his peak, at best a top 15-20 PG in the league. Kemba is already at the same level, but I think he actually has potential to crack the top 10 - he's better at breaking down defenders, can get to the hole at will, is a way better and more creative finisher, and just needs to work on getting his shot consistent. I know he has the work ethic to get there.

I don't want Martin as he is not need on the team because we have Hendo.

I don't think you can really say that Martin isn't a need. We average an astonishingly pathetic 86 points a game, and its a struggle even to get there. Martin has averaged over 20 ppg for 5 seasons of his career. I think Hendo is a promising player, but a good team needs depth, and competition would bring out the best in both of them. Why wouldn't we take a 20 point scorer to go along with a defensive stopper who can regularly score 16-18 a game?

Now if you don't like Martin because he's getting paid over $11M, then I can understand. But we cheer for a team that regularly employs tubby rejects earning that amount of money for no stats - at least Martin produces something.

And speaking of elephantine tubs of goo, any move we make that removes a member of the team whose last name is 4 letters and starts with a Di is cause for celebration.

I think we would want that (in bold) but from what I have seen of the Rockets' Kevin Martin, he's a terrible defender. We are better off putting DJA on opposing teams' 2 guards than to put Martin on them. Maybe you have seen something I haven't but for watching them (the Rox) a lot early last year, you have the wrong guy w/ that description.

I think he's saying Kevin Martin is the "20 point scorer" and Gerald Henderson is the "defensive stopper who can regularly score 16-18 a game."

LAL gets Scola, DJ Augustin, Maggette

HOU gets Gasol

CHA gets Budinger (last year of contract, with a Team Option for 900k), Goran Dragic (the backup PG, expiring), Jordan Hill (same situation like Budinger) and Lakers 1st round pick.

Martin only avgs 17.7 pts compared to Hendos 14.1. Not really the offensive monster you think he is this year.

Right now i don't really want any roster upgrades . I wan't that #1 PICK . And if by trade we can get another2012 first pick . That would be perfect . As far as im concerned the only core players we have is Walker and SMACK ' . And i don't want any more crap contracts even if we lose Boris and DJ for nothing , flexability is key.

I kind of feel the same way. The way we have been playing, we maybe a player or two from playing ourselves out of the #1 spot, seriously. So, if we do have to take on some contracts to get some 1st round picks, I hope it is a young player who is a year away from reaching his potential, just need the right coaching or setting. Or a expiring, bad contract player who we can stash til the end of the season (a Diaw type player or a near retirement type player), a player who contract makes a deal work without committing to him long term.

Great deal for us! We get rid of a huge contract in Maggette, we have a backup for when Boris leaves (trade, buyout, or expiring deal), and they get a first in the process. Can we get Cho the message about this deal? You shed 13-14 million worth to only bring back 6 million (Only 3 million between two players after this year) AND a first? Absolutely brilliant trade!

no way in hell this goes through. lakers get absolutely hosed. if we give up dj and mags to "facilitate" we would need to take back metta. i would go for a pick from the lakers (mavs or lakers) and a pick from the rockets and world peace and walton. that is the only way this goes through.

Im sorry but with no guarantee of the #1 pick, and our overall lack of talent, I would like to at least put some decent players on this roster. It probably won't translate to wins immediately, so we'll still end up picking at a really good spot.
