View Full Version : Disgraceful end to the Minnesota game.

Maggette completes an old-fashioned three point play with 14 seconds to go. We are down five. We just lay back and lazily allow the loss to occur. We could've at least fouled immediately and forced the T-Wolves to earn their win from the line. Seriously?? Give up on a two possession game with 14 seconds to go??
Did anybody see the broadcast? Stephanie Ready did all she could to hold her tongue and not rip into the Bobcats strategy (or lack thereof). Steve Martin said, "I know what you are thinking, Stephanie...."
Our fans have sat through blowouts all year. We had the chance to make this one interesting. But nobody appeared to care about winning....EXCEPT THE TV ANNOUNCERS.
I'm all for tanking, but that was PATHETIC.

The paying fans who bothered to show up and cheer Charlotte deserved better than that ending.

I'm not one of the people calling for Silas to step down but after that I'm all for it happening. How can you go into a situation like that with no strategy?? I don't care how bad the season has been, YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!

Amen. It was just sorry. They had time to set up a press after the FT and foul with virtually no time elapsing. Stephanie Ready said something like "But you could---" before stopping herself from ripping Silas x 2. And then Steve Martin spoke for us fans. Good for them.

Man, I was there tonight and I was really mad as hell. I mean, like you guys are saying, we suffer through blowout losses all season and they have a chance to play it out hard and it wasn't a situation where it was impossible. Same situation happened in a game not too long ago against New Jersey when Williams went off for 57. They were down 6, got a steal, cut it to 3, NJ missed two free throws, and they had a shot in the end.
Tonight was the first time where I think the young Silas would have made a difference between a win and a loss. Paul was too laid back tonight in terms of subs and making adjustments. Kemba CLEARLY had it going over DJ and he took too long to recognize it. I just might offer up my ticket to Friday Night's game against Denver in protest, lol.

Thank you. My friend at the game said it felt like it was just a scrimmage at the end. Sad.
Didn't get to see the end as my illegal stream went out. I was surprised to see we only lost by 5. Sad it ended like that because up until that point I felt they had given a good effort.

Ok... so they foul. Win the game. Now we are only 2 games behind Washington. How is that a good thing? You would jeopardize our 25% chance to say we can beat Minnesota at home with their back up point guard?
sorry I just don't see the point of outrage. It sucks but the best thing we can do is lose right now. I'm just happy we were in it.

We are actually in so few games, it won't make a huge difference. Any team trying to win would have fouled, and then likely lost anyway. But at least it would have been a fight to the end. The paying fans deserved better. Some of the players who actually cared deserved better. Tanking is the action of the GM, etc. The players and coaches should still try to win with what they have. And look at the lottery history. The worst team usually doesn't get the number 1 pick anyway. There's not a lot of difference between picks 2 through 5.
That's the kind of ending to a game that leaves a foul taste in the mouths of paying, cheering fans.

I was at the game paying and cheering and trust me there weren't all that many paying and cheering fans. The only taste in my mouth after that loss was beer. We've gone over this a million times. yes the worst team doesn't always get the number one pick. But a 25% chance is better than a 20% chance. Lets make sure we have the best odds and if losing to Minnesota helps give us an extra 5% chance at Anthony Davis, it sucks but its what we need to do.
I honest to god hate cheering to lose, so I don't. I was at the game hoping we would win drunkenly cheering. But when every loss at this point actually is better for us, I find it hard to summon outrage over a lazy finish.

Does anybody think Stephanie Ready could coach . I really think she would make one hell of a coach. She damn sure wouldn,t put up with as much shit as Salis does . And you can tell she damn sure knows the game.

It was an interesting end for sure. I was kind of surprised but not angry. I got a kick out of Stephanie and Steve's dialogue though, that was classic coming from a couple of beloved homers. I don't personally think it was a disgraceful end but I can see how it could be viewed as such. I was more disgraced by Mullens getting all those minutes over Biz at the end, honestly.

Win or lose last night, we're probably going to finish last. I can see obviously tanking the end of a game on the road. But in front of your diehard fans?? With so few opportunities to win in front of them this season?? At least foul them one more time when you're down 5 with 14 seconds. It was too blatant for my taste.
Kemba, Hendo, and Bismack are important pieces for the future, and they need to experience a few more late-game wins before the season is over. At least experience ATTEMPTING a few more.

I have to stand behind Veteran on this one. I know most of the fans at this point probably don't mind. But I agree, at home when you're not in many games at all, at LEAST show me you still care. Having been a coach for the past 12 years, I totally understand Stephanie's anger as well. If I ever gave up while my boys still had somewhat of a chance at victory, I wouldn't be able to live with myself.
We all know good and well we aren't about to get on ANY type of winning streak to jeopardize us not having the worst record in the league, so why not play hard and go all out? Lol......

Exactly! And thank you. I played the game scholastically for many years. I never met a coach who wouldn't foul in that situation.
Tanking is the job of the Front Office.
Maybe tanking is only the job of the coach when he plays a rookie a little longer in the first 3 quarters to get him some experience. But if you have a chance to win in the 4th quarter, you play to win--especially in front of your diehard fans.

Now that we are the worst team in 60-something years of the NBA, who wishes that we would have at least TRIED to win that Minnesota home game in the final 14 seconds? The fans deserved a win attempt in that situation.

Eh... 7 wins, 8 wins. does it really matter? 8 wins and we are still technically the worst team ever since Philly got 9 wins. Bottom line is....even with a bad team and a full season, no one is gonna be this bad again. Having the actual record sucks, but its not like having 8 wins would have been awesome ya know.

8 wins is NOT "technically" the worst ever. It's based on PERCENTAGE for crying out loud. Are you kidding me??
Now we have all of this wonderful national publicity as being the worst ever.
But the bottom line is that, when you have even a remote chance for a win, YOU COMPETE. That's what coaches want, except for apparently Paul Silas on that particular night.

It truly does not bother me one little bit. I'm already looking forward to the draft and a new head coach next year.
