View Full Version : Your "sexy" pick if we can't get Davis.....

This is not a poll about who you'd actually pick if we draft number 2.
But let's pretend that every player is on track to become his best case scenario NBA comparison. Who would you love to see added to this roster(besides Davis)?
My first thought is Jared Sullinger. Assuming for a minute that he truly is a cross between Kevin Love and a younger Carlos Boozer, I'd love to see what he could do next to Kemba, 'Smack, and Hendo.
The ultimate version of Sullinger and the current version of Bismack could interchange defensively between the 4 and the 5 depending on matchups. They would be beasts on the boards and ignite a ton of fastbreaks for Kemba and Gerald. Where Sullinger couldn't defend a shot, 'Smack could rotate over and cover his butt multiple times a night.
When we need a bucket, we could just throw it into Jared for the bump and hook shot, the perfectly-timed fake to draw 2 easy free throws, or his spot-on passes out of the double team. This Sullinger would be money from 20 feet, providing great spacing for the offense and allowing Bismack to battle for offensive boards on the inside. Imagine a big man who could get us 20 and 10 every night. That'd be insane for us.
BUT.....I'm not entirely convinced that Sullinger will be this good. As I've written many times before, I'm concerned that he could be Sean May/J.R. Reid. I see some risk here. But it is nice to dream....And if we DO draft him, I'll try to think positively about it.....
Harrison Barnes, because in a perfect world that guy is Glenn Robinson. Of course he won't come close to Robinson, but wouldn't you love stats like this?

Not sure yet, but would lean towards MKG. There is a lot to like about his game, and he has a high ceiling.

Probably Brad Beal. We need another big time scorer.

Not necessarily MY sexy pick, but the three guys who are sexy picks among dtaftniks are Robinson, Beal, and Gilchrist.
As of now, those three are "trending up"

I'm warming up to MKG more since watching him in the tourney, so I would say him. Honestly, with all of the talent on UK, it's hard not to think that all of these players won't be a slight bit better when they aren't all on the same roster. I think MKG can actually be a more offensive version of our fave G-Force, plus I think MKG's b-ball IQ is greater than that of Wallace. If we don't get Davis, we need to add scoring, so whomever does that, I'm on board with. Honestly, I too want to like Sullinger more Picksetter, but I agree that I think he is more Sean May than Carlos Boozer...... at the NBA level.

Yeah, exactly. I want to like Sullinger. I love his college strengths and hope they translate to the pros. But I've seen extremely-skilled guys like him fail in the NBA. Sean May and J.R. Reid were so polished in the post during their college years.
Some compare Sullinger to Love. The thing with Kevin Love is, he is very comfortable playing the face up game from 25 feet in, with pick and pops, etc. Combine that with his anchor strength and nose for rebounds, and that guy is just on another level right now. Sullinger isn't there.
I'd be very happy with MKG. I don't think he's much of a risk. A winner who cares. A good athlete if not a great one.

Yeah, Barnes is another guy I want to believe in, because the "on" version of Harrison would be such a boost to our young core. Some argue he will be a better driver in the pros because of the hand check rule. Don't know about that, since he'll be driving into long 7-footers on a regular basis too.

Do you think that draftniks always overemphasize NCAA tournament performance this time of year??
I bet Sean May was trending up when he was dominating the NCAA's in '05. But then people took a step back, looked at everyone more thoroughly, and he slid to pick 13.
Where was Kemba Walker listed at this time last year??

I seem to remember Kemba in the top 3 at some points(during the tourney too?). Am I mistaken??
If (with our luck) we end up with the #3 pick (the lowest we can drop with the worst record I believe) Davis will be a moot point anyway...I'd expect them to pick Barnes if he's still on the board under those circumstances...

strictly speaking, if they were to all hit their potentials, wouldn't andre drummond have to be guy? i personally don't want to pick him, but i think his potential is described as "franchise altering center."

Drummond sounds good, but since we're talking about sexy picks and not necessarily the best picks, I'll go with Perry Jones. He would be such a nice compliment to Biyombo, and I think his game would probably translate better to the NBA than college. Kemba could go inside/out and Jones could find the open man.
I think he might have one of the highest ceilings in the draft. It's just a serious chance taking him so high.

I saw too many games from PJ3 where he just did not show up this season. Not a fan of his at all, but I know many like him. I would take Thomas Robinson before PJ3 in a nano-second. It may be just me, but I get "bust" vibes from PJ3 all day long.

Good point, but I really wonder if something like "franchise altering Center" was written BEFORE that disappointing season of his. It might be time for someone to do a little editing.

Barnes is not even a top 8 pick anymore. Its gotta be someone of that Kentucky team. We need a legit Small forward if we cant get Davis.
