Good article by Rick, also Paul gives things the young guys need to work on in the offseason....

My opinion? He says he wants to come back, but I'd love to see him move into a front office position....

I second that done some great work with Hendo and seems to keep people motivated which is hard, Biyombo seems to respond better to him aswell.

It kills me to sit here and see the Charlotte Observer members have absolutely zero clue about anything. But none of them understand tanking. It's unbelievable. They think this is our best effort, that the Bobcats put this on the floor with the idea of winning.
I hate Observer commenters, but I can't let myself sign up. I would never get anything done, righting all the injustice they stir up.
Paul has done what he was asked to do. Finish last, get us the best odds at number 1. Mission Accomplished. As fas as reupping his contract... meh, I think they will wait and see what happens in the lottery. If we don't get Davis, we wont be winning next year either.

I could have done that and I would have done it for 1/2 the price. Tight Mr Jordan missed a trick there

Yeah, letting him be the Director of Player Development and/or Director of Scouting while letting Stephen take over as HC would build the front office and also give Stephen continued mentoring from pops as he takes the reigns. I think that would work out well.

I think that while Silas senior is here Jr will always feel under his eye. I just don't think it would changed much as Silas jr would not want to annoy daddy by doing totally new things

Get rid of him and JR and bring someone in that knows what they are doing, Silas is good for a veteran team but not this rebuild version.

I've always liked Paul Silas - I feel he is a good people person, and can win with a veteran roster. As I've said before, I think he got a raw deal here, as he came to rehab a reeling team with a good group of vets, and then was suddenly forced to coach this steaming mess once Operation SuperTank suddenly commenced.
And I do understand the purpose of tanking, and also realize that maybe he was directed to play certain players for different reasons throughout the year. But I've actually started to get really pissed at him these last few games. For one, the tank job is complete, we've secured the worst record in the league. Lets try to get 1 win before we set the all time futility record for lowest wins and winning percentage.
I'm sorry if this rant goes on a little long, but a lot of little things have started to get really agitating watching us get down by 20, if not more, EVERY SINGLE GAME. Yes our talent sucks, but getting blown out every game is a direct result of the coaching thats taken place all year.
His whole quarter rotation is one of the dumbest ideas I think I've ever seen. He will play starters for an entire quarter, then put the subs in for almost the entire next quarter. I've never seen a coach on any level - NBA, college, high school, rec league, middle school, AAU, summer league - ever have a rotation set like that.
What set me off though was the game against the Cavs, a very winnable game that we had some control of. I've been waiting for Kemba to have a breakout game, to show off his scoring prowess that he had in college. First half, (or more precisely, the second quarter) he was absolutely on fire, going 7-8 for 16 points. I thought for sure he was going to get 30+. After halftime, I personally would've almost had him start the 3rd quarter the way he was playing, but if not, at least within the first few minutes.
But no, Silas decided hobbled DJ needed to play the entire 3rd quarter. The thing was, DJ was playing well, but he could've still kept him in there and put Kemba next to him, as they were playing awesome together and the Cavs could do nothing to stop them. So after being red hot the first half, there was a 20 minute halftime break, plus about a 30-40 minute time for the 3rd quarter to take place. Basically, he personally cooled Kemba for an entire hour, and he of course came in the 4th quarter cold and flat, and only finished with 20.
First rule in basketball - always go to the hot hand until the fire's out. Byron Scott had no problem continuously going to no name Lester Hudson because he was on fire. Lawrence Frank had no problem calling Brandon Knights number tonight because he was on fire.
And this game against Detroit, it was an utter blowout, and I thought we were trying to develop our young talent. But again, Kemba sat out the entire 3rd quarter, and when he finally got to play in the 4th, Silas took him out with 6 minutes left for Carroll, never to return. He only played 18 minutes, and at the buzzer, I saw him stay on the bench with his head down after everyone else got up.
I haven't even gotten into his terrible offensive sets, where its always the wings waiting until the post players get to the block, then slowly come off their baseline screens, even though the defense already knows exactly what we're doing. By the time the first pass gets to the wing, there's 10 seconds left on the clock, and we're always rushed into taking a long, contested shot, or turning it over. Also, the lack of aggressiveness comes directly from the coach, and then there's the no in game adjustments, and no understanding of matchups....I'm just going to stop now.
I'd be fine with Paul in the front office, but he absolutely cannot be on the bench next year. I have no problem with Stephen, but if they decide to go that route, they need to put veteran assistants next to him on the bench, preferably with former head coaching experience.

There you go...EXACTLY why Silas shouldn't be back on the bench next year. He might be going along with our wishes to get a higher pick but he's hurting us overall because of how he's jerking the players around.
Well said QC.

I used to be on their forum all the time a few years back....with a different name. I remember a guy called "Superbxl" or something. That wasn't you was it? I also recall a guy named "Adcoop" on there having some really good posts. But I haven't looked in on that forum in ages.
I still occasionally post under Bonnell's blog(not as "Veteran_Picksetter). A lot of those people are just clown trolls trying to anger real Bobcat fans.

Silas on what Gerald Henderson should do:

Anyone who says Silas should stay is clearly not watching these games. I received an upgrade to Section 115 (Front Court Club) on Monday to the Wizards blowout and got a great view of Silas' unbelievable lack of focus. I don't care if his son is "coaching" the team or not for the game. There were long stretches of time where he would be looking in the OPPOSITE direction of the game. Was this complete apathy supposed to be intentional? I thought I was delirious until multiple people in my section brought it up, and I have since seen multiple comments on the interwebs as well.
Assume that Paul Silas makes the mininum of NBA coaches, around $1.3-1.5mil/year. That amounts to AT LEAST $15,000 a game. Guy get paids that much and can't even ACT like he gives a crap? Give me a break man!
This has been a rough team to have to coach for the last 2 years, but there is absolutely no way we should let this guy remain coach. He's likely banking $2-3mil off the past two seasons, so there is no reason to show him sympathy. He'll be fine.

Technically the tank job isn't complete. If we win out the rest of our games we would be tied for the 3rd worst record. No sense in getting this far and screwing up the one thing we've been good at. Haha I know thats all but impossible but its not impossible to pass Washington really. But I agree. We have to get 8 wins. I don't want that worst team ever moniker. Then again, we may get our first banner.
I just refuse to believe that Coach Silas is all of a sudden a terrible coach. Like I totally believe a guy could lose his edge and not be a championship caliber coach anymore. But for what he is doing now, not to be on purpose... it would have to be an amnesia type level event. Like complete loss, of all basketball knowledge. I just don't think thats possible. Another words... right now its so bad it has to be on purpose.

i call this the Gerald Wallace offense. Stand at the 3 point baseline until about 8 seconds left then spaz out. Works neverytime.

Hey Mustachio...could it be that Silas just isn't the coach for the level that we're at? Maybe he just needs veterans instead of the young guys that we have?
I recognize what success he had and I appreciated his time here with the Hornets. I don't think he's suddenly went senile...so maybe our situation just isn't his best place to be in?

totally possible. could be why he said in his latest interview that he wants to stay and see's potential "with the right acquisitions". meaning bring me some vets.
I don't know for sure. It just seems to me to be so planned, and guided. This team was never gonna be good, but why would anyone intentionally make it this bad with out a reason?

He didn't play at all in the 3rd. Remember...we substitute by quarters!
If that didn't piss me off so much it'd be hilarious.

Hes gonna have to go but obviously had no chance.
For the 50th time, we should be playing the guys who we are gonna stay with. I swear kemba, bsmack and hendo should be starting and playing 36 min every nite. Its stupid to try to lose and then not play those guys.
