Just watching this horrible late game on TNT tonight and wanted to share how much I regret both of those trades now. We gave Ajinca how long to develop and dude was HORRIBLE. I knew after seeing him play from day one that he wasn't NBA material.

Nobody really knew what to expect from Tyler, but I know he had a ton of potential and now he's actually getting PT with the Warriors and we traded him for virtually nothing. I'm just saying we really could have used him instead of that "cash."

Same with Wright except for him we ultimately acquired Diaw and Jack. And we have neither of them now and most people on this board regret their contributions from over the last two years.

These are the types of deals we have to avoid in the future if we want to change things. No, not because either guy is a superstar, but both are young with tons of potential and NBA ability. Imagine a front line of Smack, Wright, Mullens, and Tyler going into next year compared to Smack, Diop, TT, and Mullens.

Sorry, I gotta play Devil's Advocate.

Here's the problem. If we keep Wright in '07, there is a butterfly/domino effect on the Bobcats, the whole league, and the entire world. (I'm not joking or smoking anything) You really don't know what happens following that. It opens up a whole other parallel reality. So it's virtually impossible that we would have ended up with exactly Wright, Mullens, and Smack on the team. It's no guarantee we would have even hired Cho, and he is the guy that pushed for Biyombo.

Secondly, that playoff season was a heck of a lot of fun, especially for season ticket holders who got to see a high percentage of home wins. We got a little taste of winning, saw that we couldn't go much farther, and then blew things up with a youth movement. I'm actually pretty content with that. I think local fans really needed to experience some winning, and I'm glad to have experienced it.

Looking ahead, yes, I get your point to a degree. Let's not trade any picks for bad contracts or quick-fix veterans moving forward. We are in full-on youth movement mode right now. And most of the fans understand.

In my opinion, the Tyler pick was sold to pay for Charlotte's portion of the Bismack buyout

Yeah, I agree with Vet. There is little chance of us having that lineup. When we traded Wright, we were a different team, a better team, a team that made trades to put a immediate product on the floor. Wright took a minute to develop. And the overall production of what Jrich, Diaw, Sjax, Raja etc. contributed doesn't compare to keeping Wright. Wright was never in the plans to stay here either.

Now when we traded Tyler, I frowned a little. But most likely if we would not traded Tyler, we would have not traded for Mullens later.

The pick I kind of regret is Jared Dudley but he did play here though.

Agreed with Swedd on Tyler.

I don't disagree with what we did at the time in regards to trading that pick for Richardson. He was the 1st legit SG we'd ever had on the team and we sorely needed him. Besides, up til his stretch with the Mavs Wright's been a mega-bust.

@ spec, I can't say that he was a mega bust though. We know Don Nelson can be a fickle guy and IIRC, Wright didn't get much of a chance while he was there. I wrote him off as a bust early on but it was because he never played... So that was kind of unfair to him. They were really high on Anthony Randolph and he isn't fairing much better now.

And I know it's all pretty impossible to look at it as black and white like "if we kept Wright, he'd still be here and we would have everything else happen that has happened..." But, it's not entirely impossible. Some of those other things could've still fell into place. And what if things had happened differently?

What if we drafted Wright and then sucked a little more that year while he was developing? We could've had an even higher pick and gotten another awesome young player and had more building blocks going forward.

Again, I hate to be Captain Post Facto but I LOVED the J-Rich trade at the time. That was probably the most excited I had ever been for acquiring a player outside of Crash in the expansion draft. That being said, I had no idea his knees already started going and he was on the downside of his career so early. If the front office knew that, I would've preferred to keep Wright.

As far as Tyler, maybe that cash did help go towards the buyout but our biggest problem position in our history has been the 5. If Tyler develops into a solid 5, which he looks like he can if he can stay in a game without fouling out in 5 minutes, lol.

Wright has continually been injured his entire career:

Due to an injured hip flexor, Wright was unable to participate in summer league play during his rookie season.[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandan_Wright#cite_note-4) Of the thirty-eight games Wright played during his rookie season, he started in six.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandan_Wright#cite_note-BWNBABio-0) Wright entered the 2008-09 season (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008-09_NBA_season) with career averages of 4.0 points and 2.6 rebounds in 9.9 minutes over thirty-eight games in his rookie season.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandan_Wright#cite_note-BWNBABio-0) In January 2009, Wright partially dislocated his left shoulder late in the first half of a game against the Los Angeles Lakers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles_Lakers).[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandan_Wright#cite_note-5) On October 14, 2009 the Warriors extended Wright's contract until the end of the 2010–11 NBA season.[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandan_Wright#cite_note-Warriors_exercise-6) Wright damaged his left shoulder capsule (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Articular_capsule) during practice on October 2, 2009.[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandan_Wright#cite_note-7) He underwent shoulder surgery and missed the 2009–10 season.

He also suffered a concussion just last month.

Not saying he was a bust due to lack of skill...moreso that he just couldn't stay on the court.

The Wright trade i was ok with. I never really had high hopes for him coming out of UNC, I always thought he could have used an extra year. But i kind of wish we had kept Tyler. He has potential, and i would prefer to have given him pt instead of guys like Diop and Diaw

Wright took this long just to look like he belonged on a roster. We didn't miss out on anything with that...

what are the chances these dudes would have ended up being even worse if they stayed on our team? sometimes i feel there is something wrong with our player development. maybe it is better now, but i'll still be skeptical until i see some significant improvement in some of our draft picks.
