Assuming:
1. we don't get #1 and
2. we're not getting a veteran, but either an additional pick or a future pick
what is the lowest pick you'd want to have in this draft?
I'm thinking trading down as low as 7 and something might be worth it. That would allow us to get one of Robinson, Drummond, Beal, Lamb, or Barnes. (Of course, it depends on what we'd get in addition to the pick.)
Does that seem like the sweet spot if you still want a significant contributor: a guy you can count on to be a starter?

I would probably go to 7 as well, maybe 8 if the other pick we go was still lottery. But after that I think the talent goes to the 3rd tier

I wouldn't trade out of the #1 or #2 pick, but I'd trade down if we got the 3rd/4th. It's hard to say for what package though so it'd have to be on a case by case basis

SWedd,
Who is your #2 that would make you hesitant to trade out of that pick? Not sure if your #2 has changed since your mock draft.

i would have to say i would trade the #2 if:
the team wanting #2 was at #4 and wanted either mkg or t rob which means we would still get drummond or beal at #4 and we could get another lotto pick. so with either new orleans or portland.
i guess the answer to the question is depends who we trade down for. i think we MUST come away with davis, drummond or beal in this draft.

That's definitely what I'm eye balling, but I'm also wondering if I'd trade down from 2 on down if we got a top 7 pick and a first next year, or something like that. Basically, it seems like top 7 is a pretty good place, especially if you can get something else valuable in return. OR say something like we trade the 4 for 7 and one our bad contracts.

Man, if we did the trade down where pick up a 1st in 2013, that would make 2013 a huge Draft for Charlotte. We would have ours, Portlands, and then whomever we would make this trade with. But given the depth of this draft, kinda think I'd like to have 2 this Draft and 2 in 2013. I trust Cho to get the best deal possible. It makes for an exciting time. But I hope this trade talk is all for nothing. I want #1 and Anthony Davis.

Yeah 2013s draft is supposed to be especially weak. Noel and Muhammed are the only players with star qualities. Then mcadoo and Zeller aren't bad talents. I would definitely prefer a second pick in this years draft

Just wondering if everyone is as sold on Anthony Davis as I am right now. Suppose we do get the #1 pick. Everyone knows it will be Davis. The Hornets have #3 and #10. If you have #1, would you swap for #3, #10 in 2012 Draft AND for the Hornets Unprotected 1st in 2013? I'm inclined to say No, but it would be something to consider. It would likely mean 2 Lottery picks in 2012 and 2 Lottery picks in 2013 as I dont think that even with Davis the Hornets make the Playoffs next year. Goes a long way towards rebuilding this team around Kemba, Biyombo, Henderson and Mullens. But if Davis is that Franchise Altering Player, then you dont do it.

NO way if we earn the #1 pick in the lottery for the first time ever and trade it away for lower picks. Especially if you believe that Anthony Davis is a franchise changing big man that has been compared to Bill Russell and "The Dream". I think we could score a talent at #3 and a lesser talent at #10, plus make a big splash next year with several picks, but IMO, it would be the exact problem that has caused the headaches this franchise has endured since inception. Okafor is the closest thing that we've acquired via draft to an imposing franchise player and that isn't saying much. MKG/Beal/Drummond/Sullinger at #3 and Barnes/Jones III/Lamb is nice, but I don't think in the long run that it would be the best option.

There isnt one complete player in this draft!
Davis is skinny and raw offensively
Robenson is undersized
Beal is also undersized and his jump shot isnt as pure as people originally thought
KMG does not have a good jump shot
Barnes lacks a good handle and fades in alot of games
Drummond has COMPLETELY underachieved this year
Sullinger is not very athletic
Lamb is pretty well rounded but lacks that killer instinct and take over mode

There rarely is a "complete" player in any draft, as the guys are still young and developing. Compound that with the fact that there are tons of sources all picking these guys apart, and you're bound to have players that seem to have more issues.
I'm not worried about it. I'd take Davis top 5 in just about any draft.

If we get the number one there's no way I'd trade it personally, this team as always is suffering from an identity crisis, we literally need a 'face' of the franchise...Davis is that guy imo.
That said if we get the number two we seriously need to look at trading it, there are a raft of teams that are infatuated by MKG/Drummond/TRob and as much as the choice seems obvious(MKG) many teams may surprise us, I would trade the #2 for #7 and #11 off of Portland with the proviso that Portland removes the restrictions on their next years pick which we own.
As for the picks I would take Lamb/Barnes at #7 and Sullinger at #11, people may disagree about those picks but these guys are underappreciated imo and both should be borderline top 5.
Kemba
Henderson
Barnes
Sullinger
Biyombo
Good young team full of solid roleplayers that would still suck enough to guarantee a top pick next year, their potential going forward would be scary.
