View Full Version : Kentucky vs. Charlotte Nonsense

Add local writer Scott Fowler to the list of apparent morons who think that the national champion Kentucky Wildcats COULD beat the Charlotte Bobcats.

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/04/21/3190052/bobcats-can-be-the-best-at-being.html

First of all, their second string point guard (whoever HE is) would have to be defending last year's true champion, THE MAN in the NCAA tournament, Kemba Walker.

Give the Bobcats a week of getting used to collegiate rules, and it would be no contest--ever. Make Kentucky play Charlotte with NBA rules, and it would at least a 30 point blowout win by Charlotte every single time.

When/if we get Anthony Davis and he's not even the best player on our team for the first month or so, people will see how stupid this is. The NBA is a man's game. Only a few rare 19 year olds are ready for it.

I'm glad we have the internet now. Back in the old days we had to depend on a few "unchecked" sportswriters like Scott Fowler for our NBA knowledge. At least there were a few decent commentators on TV....

well I have to say I think it would be close. If they played the cats in a one off Teague would just play pretty much the entire match so we wouldnt have to see their second string pg. Also Kemba would have to finish inside against Davis and T Jones which is easier said than done. I reckon MKG could lock down anyone on this team.

No. It wouldn't be close. Not at all. Stop this debate. Its not a debate. Its moronic. I don't care how many first round picks Kentucky has, the Bobcats have 15 NBA PLAYERS ON THEIR ROSTER.

This fucking thing makes me want to slam my head into a wall every time it gets brought up again.

Kentucky has maybe 6 NBA players. Of those, maybe 3 are lottery picks

Teague: 10 points, 4.8 assists, 2.5 rebounds, 41.2% FG, 32.5% 3P
Lamb: 13.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 47.4% FG, 46.6% 3P
Gilchrist: 11.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 49.1% FG, 25.5% 3P
Jones: 12.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.8 blocks, 50% FG, 32.7% 3P
Davis: 14.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 4.7 blocks, 62.3% FG
Miller: 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 47.4% FG, 37.6% 3P

Charlotte Bobcats have a full squad of NBA players. Of those, 7 were lottery picks.

Augustin: 19.2 points, 6.2 assists, 2.9 rebounds, 44.4% FG, 41% 3P, Cousy Award, First Team All-American
Kemba: 23.5 points, 4.5 assists, 5.4 rebounds, 42.8% FG, 33% 3P, Cousy Award, First Team All-American
Higgins: 16.1 points (18.9 his junior year), 2.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 43.4% FG, 34% 3P

Henderson: 16.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 45% FG, 33.6% 3P
Carroll: 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 44.1% FG, 40.7% 3P

Brown: 13.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 50.4% FG, 43.3% 3P
Maggs: 10.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 52.5% FG, 34.5% 3P
Reggie: 27.8 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 52.8% FG, 27.9% 3P

White: 17.4 points, 10.3 rebounds, .75 assists, 1.6 blocks, 60.5% FG
Tyrus: 12.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 3.1 blocks, 60.8% FG
Najera: 18.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, .7 blocks, 45.5% FG

Looking at those numbers, the college version of our team would dominate Kentucky in every aspect of the game. The NBA version? Not even close.

And I'd love to see this:

In such a hypothetical game, I hope we would not bother to play Carroll unless it's garbage time at the end of the game.

Say what you want about Maggette, but he'll crush MKG with those massive shoulders of his, and he bulls his way to the rim in the NBA, how would he fare vs college players? Even better. Kemba Walker, dominated college. DJ, dominated college. Hendo, played very well in college. Davis? Not as big or strong as Mullens or Smack, or as fat as Diop, he and Jones would struggle in the post against Smack.

Anyone saying that Kentucky can beat the Bobcats? Joke

Carroll wasn't chump change either in college. From Wikipedia:

Carroll played in 133 games over his four-year career at the University of Notre Dame and averaged 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 0.9 steals. He finished sixth on Notre Dame’s all-time leading scoring list with 1,850 points.
Carroll also ranks as Notre Dame's second all-time leader in three-point field goals made (301) behind Colin Falls (331), three-point field goals attempted (762), games played (133), games started (125) and second in free throw percentage (.825)… Scored in double-figures in 96 of 133 career games. He was named All-American Honorable Mention by the Associated Press and All-Big East First Team as a senior.

He was also MVP of the 04-05 NBADL.

Just saying. Hate the contract, not the player.

Too be fair, I didn't say he wouldn't get to the basket...I just implied that he will more than likely not get the call and miss the shot. id take my chances of Davis and Jones against a Mullens and a Smack all day. Smack might be strong but he got the offensive game of a fucking 10 year old. Mullens is..idk.

Smack also hung a triple double on Davis the last time they played

Davis ended up with a Double-Double. So there is some give and take there.

So Bismack cancels out their best player and then some. All that does is make it less likely for Kentucky to win.

Thank you, Swedd, for your research on the Bobcats roster.

People have to understand how much a kid tends to improve physically and skill-wise in their first few years out of college, not having to go to class and being able to spend hours on their game.

This stupid argument gets brought up almost every year in an effort to pick on the worst team in the NBA. I'm sorry, but it is a HUGE jump from college to the pros. HUGE.

And when MKG, Terrence Jones, and even Anthony Davis struggle in the beginning of the NBA season next year, it will bring some perspective.

this conversation is beyond stupid. every year they do it with the worst team in basketball and football compared with the college champions.

Kentucky wouldn't even beat CSKA Moscow, or other top European teams, but no, ESPN has to create a poll ON THEIR F**KING HOMEPAGE asking if Kentucky could beat the Bobcats.

This kind of thing is the spawn of sh*t journalism. Ask a ridiculous question, let the masses of morons jump on it, and reap in the attention.
