Ibeleive that the ceiling for Anthony Davis's game is 19 pts 13.5 rbs 4 blks.
If the Bobcats drafted down with the Hornets and took the #3 and #10 overall picks and drafted Michael Kidd-Gilchrist whose ceiling is probably 18 pts 8.0 rbs 5 ast 3 stl 2 blk and at #10 John Henson who I believe his ceiling will be14 pts 11 rbs 3 blks. Why would you not want that combination over Anthony Davis??
I know the knocks on Henson, but one thing that is for certain is he improved his game greatly each year at Carolina. And he and Davis both have a very slight frame. Davis's upside is higher than Henson's but not higher than Kidd-Gilchrist and Henson.
Just my opinion...

I understand the logic and appreciate the thinking. However, the idea is questionable for two reasons. First, just because a guy does well for his position (MKG's 8 rebounds and two blocks) do not mean the stats translate the same way as another position. Wings get blocks off of help defense and certainly pay dividends. However, Davis would be an interior defender that would make people question how they attacked the rim. He might have a couple of more blocked shots, but he'll deny a lot more shots simply from players never confronting him at the rim with a shot. Even if Henson and MKG post those numbers, that doesn't mean they're contributing the way Davis is. Second, we need the absolute best players we can get. We need undeniable franchise talent. Davis seems to be that. MKG and Henson look nice, but whether they become cornerstones is questionable, at least from the perspective of analysts that know a lot more than me.
I want a definite stud on the team Davis seems to be that guy and many think we have yet to see much of his talent.

I appreciate your post. This is not an exact science and ultimately you could be right. But I disagree and this is why:
Let's assume MKG and Henson ARE as good as you say.
Anthony Davis would still be playing with a starting small forward who isn't MKG. SOMEBODY is going to take up those SF minutes and be producing something.
Say, instead of getting MKG, we re-sign Derrick Brown and he continues to develop. Say he ends up averaging 14 points and 6 rebounds at SF in his prime. Would you rather have Henson and MKG? Or would you have Davis and Derrick Brown filling up those minutes?
Another thing: Like it or not, the NBA has a star system. Davis is the closest thing to a potential star in this draft. It's good to have stars on your team who get respect from the refs, players, and who sell tickets.
Now, back to Henson and MKG as players.....
While there is no doubt MKG is a good defender, he only averaged 1 block and 1 steal per 31 minutes on the college level. So I don't see him doing 2 and 3 a night in the pros.
I'm not quite as high on Henson as you are.
I just think that, in the NBA draft, you take the "can't miss" potential superstar over all else. That's the only way a Charlotte is going to get one. Then you fill out the other positions through different means.....
Agree with Dnbman and Veteran_Picksetter both.
