one more year of the Hammer

Matt Carroll has an early termination option in his contract which would make him a free agent on July 1, however he will not invoke it.

"That'll be Year 10," Carroll tells phillyBurbs.com. "We'll see what happens [after that]. It's gone fast. It's crazy."

Carroll will earn $3.5 million in 2012-13 and he's making a wise choice since he will probably only a get a veteran minimum offer if he became a free agent.

Carroll is averaging just 2.8 points this season for the lowly Bobcats.

I don't think anyone expected anything different. Thankfully, the contract decreased instead of increased over the years.

Glad he's on the team. Just wish it was for the minimum.

Don't blame him. He won't make 3.5 million in every season after next season combined. Good guy, bad contract.

I can definitely see that happening, too. It's easier to find guards than big guys and you can most likely find a decent 3rd SG elsewhere for the difference of Carrolls's cap figure and his buyout.

Next season will be his last. He isn't even worth keeping around for the minimum. What good does having a "three point shooter" sitting on the bench do if he can't shoot. Everybody already knows the rest of his game sucks and pretty much already has. The fact he can't hit an open jumper basically makes him a YMCA level player at this point.

I do not like Matt Carrol. But I'm not gonna cry about 3.5 million for a back up shooter when we have Tyrus and Diop contributing much less, for way more.

I have to argue that point, as much as I would like TT to contribute more, I think he has done more than Matt. Matt was 1 for 9 or 10 the other night. Tyrus is at least in our sorry rotation but he does contribute. Matt tries to but can't hit the side of the TWA some nights

It's amusing knowing that Carrol will probably dominating all the "Combined Career Bobcat Stats" by the time he retires

according to wikipedia:

6th for points
7th for rebounds!
9th for assists
5th for steals
3rd for games (only 5 behind felton)
3rd for 3pts made
3rd for 3pt percentage
2nd for free throw percentage

Just checked the Bobcats roster on http://www.nba.com/bobcats/roster/2012.
It says Carrol is a free agent. does that mean something, or is it just that he has the option to become a free agent?

Doesn't mean anything. He's not going anywhere.

Just wanted to know.

That's actually really interesting. Both Carroll and Diop had player options so you'd think they'd be listed as the same thing, right?

Maybe Diop opted in and Carroll, for some reason, opted out? would be awesome if so but I doubt he'd actually do that

Why the he'll does anyone think he would agree to a buyout?

He will never see another NBA roster, the only way he accepts a buy out is for the entire contract.

I tried to find something on google that even hinted at it and nothing. If he opted out, maybe he'd be looking for a longer deal at the vet min or something

It would be pretty stupid if Diop actually chooses to opt out. maybe they just weren't certain about what Carrol would do.
