He has missed a few games through injury but he has impressed overall this season.
Averaging 15.1 PPG shooting over 45% is a great effort and he has been the only spark in our offense this season if were honest. I would have liked to seen him take more shots becasue he has only averaged 13 shots per game which osn't enough for our best shooter on the roster.
your thoughts on Hendo's season ?

I've been very impressed, especially the last few weeks. He's one of the only ones that has consistently played with energy and heart. I think he'll be a great piece for us, though I'm not sure he's a starter for us. I could definitely see him as a short swing-man sixth guy. He could be a starting 2, but I think he has to be in a clear offensive system, where he's working off rolls and picks.

Largelly the same numbers across the board as last year, save for the increase in shot attempts. Suggests to me he's pretty much topped out on his potential. 15/4/2 is solid production for where he was picked.
I will say his defense has regressed a good bit this year. Don't know if it's due to the condensed season, more effort on offense, or what, but he disappointed me in that area of the game.

He's been impressive the last couple of weeks but other than that, he's been about as good as last year.

Words I'd use/stats I'd cite:
Inconsistent
Not full effort
14 games under 10 points
6 games with a double digit number for field goals made, despite only 7 games with less than 10 field goals attempted.
Words I would not use:
Great.
We only won 7 games. NOBODY had a great year based off that alone. I'm not saying he sucked. He will continue to develop but he didn't break out or show me anything I didn't already know about him.

He could play off of Stephen Jackson and--for part of the season--Gerald Wallace last year.
This year he had no offensive talent around him. And I didn't notice a ton of offensive strategy in the plays. With the pressure way up and his shot attempts up, he still shot 45%. Increased his 3% a tad. Points-per-minute went up.
Also, NBA minutes-wise, he was still a rookie in the early part of this season--if you consider that some lottery picks play 30 minutes a night over 82 games.
On the flip side, he played in a lot of blowouts where the opponents could relax for the entire 4th quarter, so how valid were ANY Bobcat's stats this year??
Like you say, I'm very happy with him for a 12th pick. 2009 might have been our smartest draft....for what THAT is worth.......

I'm glad my wish for Terrence Williams in 2009 wasn't granted to us.....

The "tallest midget" analogy is apt here. If the NBA started over completely, I doubt Hendo would be picked on any team's starting 5. That said, I've been extremely happy with him, based on my limited expectations. I like his game, but he models it after Kobe and MJ far too much and comes off as a poor impersonation, when I think he could do his own thing and do quite well.

I don't exactly see it as a bad thing for him to try and emulate Kobe/MJ. Definately vs GWS in particular, he looked a lot like Kobe when he scored over Ellis. He's always had the mid-ranged game, now it's just refined.
Thing about Hendo is that he's not aggressive offensively enough. We needed him to step up his offense, and at only getting 15~ points a game, its disappointing considering how much hope I had for him. I think also what holds him back is his inability to score on very good defenders. Verses JJ Redick or Monta, he'll light it up. Verses Joe Johnson or a larger SG he seems to retreat into his shell.
So I wouldn't say Hendo had a great season. If he scored like he did last few games, then we could say he definately did since he would be averaging 20~ ppg.

I still say keep in mind that he did not complete the minutes equivalent of an entire rookie nba season until roughly a third of the way through this year. That and the fact that he came off hip surgery and was probably shut down last offseason. There's hope that he has more potential yet......

I was impressed with him but I thought he took a step forward in offense but a noticeable step back in defense.

i'm glad he busted his ass for the last 15 games or so, but not entirely sure how much he did that in the middle of the season.
favorite hendo moment of the year: when he hit that 3 against miami in the second game of the season. i nearly lost my shit, i was not expecting that at all. i'm still bitter about that game, but that moment was awesome.
i have more respect for henderson after the last 2 or 3 weeks, but i'm still not convinced his long term future is with this team.

he needs someone else who can score 18 PPG playing alongside him

He just needs an offensive system. Period. Something.

Bingo.
Hendo is the only player we had of significance that didn't have a down year. Pretty impressive actually.

Agreed. Especially with Dnbman's comment about any kind of offensive system at all.
I think the same is true on defense. He has shown he has the potential to really excel on defense in the past. I think his defensive regression is much more of a system thing than anything else.
Overall, I still love Hendo. His stats, especially 15 ppg on a team that only averages 82-83 isn't bad at all. I still see him as a solid peice going forward. Will he be our long term starter, I'm not sure but I certainly think he can be a top reserve in the rotation. This would still be a win for where we drafted him for sure.

I've always been lukewarm on Hendo. But he showed some nice abilities and a lot of FIGHT, especially at the end of the season.
I'm not worried about his abilities, and I don't expect him to become our Kobe. But he does look like a legit player that can make his presence felt on the game.

See today's observer article. Maggette says that Henderson is an all-star in the making. And Henderson feels that he has that ability within himself and expects to get there.
Also, Silas, in a recent Bonnell article, said that Henderson needs to just keep going as he's going.
What this says to me is that the people working near him, who've been around the game a long time, believe in Gerald Henderson. That's encouraging.
See under the "notes" section in Rick Bonnell's latest article:

Like I said earlier in the season, I think he's reached his ceiling but that's not a bad thing because many players never max out their potential, and his ceiling is pretty solid. However, I still don't see starter material for a highly competitive team in him. Maybe if he's surrounded by top tier talent he could work as a starter but his defense isn't up to par, he doesn't have a 3 point shot, and he's useless in an iso (play right up on him and he's done, unless his fadeaway is on).
Considering what he had to work with though, he did have a successful season such as it was.

he has been in the NBA for 3 years and he has improved season by season, i think he could be an all star one day without a doubt.
I think he will work on his 3 point shot in the off season and that will add an extra weapon to his game.

Shooting guards need to be able to hit deep shots. Hendo needs to at least get good from the corners, to be a really good rotation player. Until that happens I see him as an above average bench player in the league, because that is the role he would play on an elite team with a balanced lineup.

He's a year behind in his development. He should improve more next year. He would really improve if we had a consistent scorer to pair along side him. Oh well...
