God dammit, if they can all be good with no stars there's no excuse for us.

good is not the issue. we were good two years ago but were swept in 4 in the first round. none of these teams stands a chance of winning the title with the exception of the griz when fully healthy.

well we have to get good before we ever dream of winning a championship. And we were never as good as any of these teams. That team two years ago gets swept by all of these squads.

Id also say these are more realistic models to build after than OKC, where we would need to hit on 3 NBA-All star types to reach that level.

yes, it is probably less realistic than more realistic. but look at the true title contenders: miami, san antonio, lakers, okc and an outside shot for boston. all have 3 big, all star caliber players. but you are right, we need to draft bpa everytime and hope it works like okc. if not, we could still build like minn or denver.

We just need talented players (superstar or not). If we need a star get one in FA. If you have a young talented team you're are much more likely to attract superstars to your team. Not only that but you have better cap space if you get your core players through the draft first before trying to sign a superstar or supporting players.

This right here.

What really sucks is we could have drafted most of the stars from these teams.

Bad drafting has killed us. I know it's been said time and time before but this sucks.

Raymond Felton = Andrew Bynum (could've traded 5 & 13 for Chris Paul)
Sean May = Danny Granger
Ammo= Rudy Gay
Brandan Wright/ Jason Richardson = Joakim Noah
Jared Dudley = Wilson Chandler ( Dudley was decent value)
DJ = Roy Hibbet (everyone mentions Brook Lopez as well )
Alexis Ajinca = Serge Ibaka, George Hill, Batum

No team gets them all right but, we have bern historically bad in the draft....Imagine how much better we could be if only we had gotten 1 of those picks right.

At least we have done pretty good with our last 3 picks
Hendo, Smack, and Kemba

We need 2 or 3 more strong drafts and we can be as good as those teams.

Can't forget we could have drafted Brandon Roy. Sucks he had to retire early. The guy was a monster.

5-6 years with Roy would still have been better than Ammo.

We have blown it in the draft, but those picks were with Higgins as GM. Looking at the players taken after Kemba and Bismack, I think Cho made the right picks. I can only point out a couple players who may end up with similar careers, but none appear to have the potential of a future star.

Danny Granger and Rudy Gay say hi.

As for Philly I wouldn't mind being like them minus Brand's horrid contract and Denver is where they are because they had a Superstar and raped the other team in the trade of him.

C'mon are Granger and Gay really superstars ? And Denver is clearly a better team without Melo, Jr Smith, NeNe, Billups, etc.

I'm not convinced Granger is yet, but Rudy Gay is about 1 step away from that status in my opinion. He is clutch, he is a leader, he has the killer mindset, and he can flat out ball. I do agree Denver did a great job with its wheeling and dealing. Ty Lawson is the leader of that team and everyone on their seems to be getting better and better every year.

I think we are about 1-2 years away from really judging if rebuilding worked or not. If we arent in the playoffs within 3 years (with a stable core to move forward with for the next 3-4 years) then we pretty much failed.

If we want a star FO's gonna need to draft him, I don't really want to see FO paying out to marginal talents i.e. Joe Johnson, Nene, Rashard Lewis. And I also don't want to settle for a good but not contending team.
