Can't say I expected that, maybe he wants to be Brad Daugherty now?

If you like NASCAR then Charlotte is the NBA city to be. Looks like we'll keep him for the long haul!
With MJ's interest in bike racing, it'd be pretty cool to see him enter a partnership with Bismack to own a Nationwide team.

Somehow, I can't see an MJ and Bismack-run team being a successful venture in either the racing aspect or the fan aspect. But my dude Marc Davis would be thrilled.

Fat chance, bitch :)
Really though, what possible upside could come from MJ and Biz teaming up in Nascar?
To raise running of the bulls awareness?

What possible upside could come from MJ and Nelly buying into a franchise in the NBA?
If they both like it and Bismack feels like he needs a businessman he can trust to be a partner, then why not?

Nelly? Nothing. MJ? He's a hall of fame basketball player and already was an executive at that point. Not to mention he's a global brand because of basketball.
If you want, I can go pull the list of athletes that have bought into or started their own Nascar teams...only Daugherty is still active in the sport last I checked.
Also, Bismack doesn't make enough to run a Nascar team, and running a team with his "owner" is kinda weird if he ever gets traded.

So why can't MJ and Bismack? Bismack is obviously interested in NASCAR, MJ is obviously interested in racing (bikes).

FF to about :34

Besides, I said "it'd be pretty cool" not "it will undoubtedly happen"

It will undoubtedly happen.
Teej, get on the right side of history.
Bismack should sponsor a car, and put his face on the hood.

I would pay good money to see Bismack do one of the ride arounds they do at CMS. shit is intense, has to be experienced to be truly understood.
Also, can we go ahead and just sign Bismack to a lifetime contract? I think I love him.

Was the NASCAR ride along experience something like this?

So if Rick Hendrick and Jeff Gordon decided it would be fun to own a basketball team, should they get together and buy one even though neither knows anything about the sport?
MJ might own a racing team but he shows up there far less than he shows up for the 'Cats.

How many owners of basketball teams know nothing about the sport? Maybe a handful?

And yet, his bike racing venture has been very successful

None that are successful. James Dolan, Herb Kohl, and Paul Allen come to mind.
And yet, his bike racing venture has been very successful
Because it's easier to dominate that with money than Nascar.
Most Nascar teams barely break even, if they don't lose money every year. Nationwide and Truck teams are almost never financially responsible unless connected to a Cup team. And in order to have a successful Cup team, you have to have multiple cars at a high level, which means you're spending at least 100mil per year, or a lot more.

Do you have any documentation to prove such a claim?
Do you have any documentation to prove such a claim?
Not on hand, no.
Just take a drive up to Mooresville, walk in the front door of any major team (Roush, Hendrick, Ganassi, Stewart-Haas, Gibbs, Childress, MWR, etc) and ask them if I'm way off or not...I promise you, they're spending roughly 20mil per team in cup (i.e. Hendrick has four teams, so 80mm), though less in Nationwide, just for the cars, driver + immediate team. That doesn't count R&D/testing, buildings/leases, admin/non-team employees, and travel.
There's a reason corporate sponsorship is such a big deal. DuPont...DUPONT! had to curtail a good bit of their Nascar side because they couldn't afford it.
And I only know all this because I know more people who work in Nascar than I do in the NBA. Which isn't my favorite thing to say :p
Nascar, as much as the intellectuals hate on it, is just as much a monetary factor as other, more "mainstream" sports. And most of the new owners are similar to the pro-sports owners...they own their teams to say they can and beat each other, rather than be a profitable business venture...and if it ever makes them money, its when they sell.
