I got this from the Chad Ford chat, I think it's a good idea personally

Don't think I've seen your thoughts on improving the lottery process. If you were in charge, what changes, if any, would you make to the system to limit the blatant tanking in recent years?
Chad Ford (2:53 PM)

One change. I would tie each team's draft odds to their record over the past 3 seasons -- not just the last one. I think that would seriously curtail the incentive to tank a season. Now teams would be forced to commit to three years of tanking before they got their reward and then several more years of being very bad before they could add enough talent. That's too high of a price to pay for most teams and would force them to be more competitive. Ideally, the team with the worst record in the NBA has 25 or 30 wins ... not 15.

The worst team should get the number 1 pick. Plain and simple.

That actually sounds like a good idea. I like the 3 year plan. This should only apply to team that dont make playoffs.

Maybe the last two years. Think about a team like Cleveland after Lebron leaves. That team becomes terrible, but would still be averaging a very successful season. It could take a long time to rebuild for a team that was legitimatly trying.

I think two years would work better. Still makes a team have to be bad two years to get a higher pic, but doesn't burden a team with losing for an extended period of time.

Are you guys suggesting 2-3 year record and then no lottery? So worst record over 2-3 years def gets the top pick?

I think multiple years is a dumb idea. Too much can happen in that time frame to drastically improve or worsen a team. Look how quickly we went from having a winning record and being in the playoffs to having the worst season ever. People forget that tanking has it's consequences.

If anything the percentages should be changed so that teams have a greater chance of picking where they finished or going the NFL route. Let's not act like the no lottery system has hurt the NFL as a whole. It's only the biggest and most popular sport in the country.

I wouldn't mind dropping it, but I definitely think a top pick in the NBA has a much bigger impact than in the NFL. It's worth much more to an NBA team to lose games and get the number 1 than in football, where you have to have a lot of pieces in place to be successful.

I Have to disagree with you. Just look how bad the panthers were before cam newton. I think the #1 pick in any draft is important. Doesnt matter if its nfl, nba,nhl,nba,cfl,soccer.....etc.....

Now for US (bobcat fans) This is the most important draft lottery in our history. I do agree with that. Yes we missed out on dwight howard in the first season. I know I know...but this draft could be the start of something big, not the start of an expansion.

Cam is a great example. The guy put up one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history. The Panthers were still 6-10. Top draft picks in the NBA frequently can get their teams close to playoff contention in a rookie season. In basketball, one player makes a lot more difference than any other sport, as you only play 5 guys at at time, and your starters generally play the bulk of the minutes, unlike a sport like hockey where you have several shifts.

I think they should do away with the lottery system all together. In my opinion its too easy to rig, even if they don't do it. Take that option away.

Tanking sucks. it really really sucks. But its not like its a black eye on the league or anything. Every league has a bottom tier of teams that don't have the players to compete with the upper echelon. its competition and sometimes you lose.

The punishment for tanking should be: tanking. It looks bad to have teams purposefully losing to get a number one draft pick, but look what it does to the team in question. They lose fan interest, merch sales decrease, radio chatter gets bitter and negative, fans hide in shame. Losing is your punishment. Losing sucks. No need to double down and have a team suck, then take away the chance to get better.

Take the Bobcats for example. under the current system we didn't do our best to win games this year. But what does the lottery do to prevent that? nothing. If we don't win number one this year, we are going to suck again next year. All it does is create more problems than it actually solves and allows the league a way of fixing scenarios in their favor. I say do away with it before 8pm tonight.

I see nothing wrong with tanking. Sure it sucks but atleast their is light at the end of the tunnel (well should be, but not with this BS NBA lottery system).

The worst team should get the best player. Period.

God I pray we dont get screwd tonight!
