View Full Version : Somewhat Realistic Dream Offseason Thread
Black
06-02-2012, 04:45 PM
I posted this in another thread, but I'd like to see what others would like to see happen if they were running the show. It doesn't matter if the numbers add up perfectly, so have some fun with it while still being semi-realistic.
Feel free to include trades, free agents, draft picks, and our amnesty clause. Also throw in your pick for head coach.
My dream offseason as of right now:
1-Amnesty Tyrus. Just take the hit and move on.
2-Draft Robinson and Jenkins or Melo.
3-Philly wants to move Iggy. Maggette and the pick Portland owes us for Iggy works, and saves the Sixers a lot of money, and allows them to play their young guys.
4-Sign Jamison at a reasonable price.
5-One way or another, I think Augustin is out. If Andre Miller or Jerryd Bayless can be had for cheap, they would be a nice addition. Otherwise, I'm not sure about backup point guard.
6-Don't keep dead weight around. Higgens, I'm looking at you.
Kemba
Henderson
Iggy
Robinson
Bismack
-----------
Jamison
Miller/Bayless/FA
Williams
Mullens
White
Brown
Jenkins/Melo
-----------
Carroll
Diop
UDFA
This plan isn't well thought out, but like I said, it's a dream. If the Sixers really want to make room for their younger guys without having a bad situation in the locker room, an expiring vet and a mid-round pick might get it done for Iggy. Using the amnesty on Tyrus isn't going to happen, but it would clear the way for Robinson and end the headache that Tyrus has been so far.
Feel free to go ahead and tear me apart!
Coached by Jerry Sloan.

My "somewhat but probably not at all realistic dream"
Trade the #2 Pick/Tyrus/Magette for Rudy Gay and Tony Allen
Sign and Trade DJ/Diop/Henderson + a future first round pick for an extended Deron Williams and the Okur exception
Sign Antwan Jamison and either Earl Clark/Yi/Jeremy Evans/Landry
Resign Derrick Brown
Use our 2nd round pick on Darius Miller
Hire a YOUNG coach
Bismack
Jamison
Gay
Reggie Williams
Deron Williams
Bench - Kemba/Tony Allen/BJ/Brown/Miller/whatever young guy we sign
We then let eventually upgrade our PF spot when Jamison stops producing and become a contender.

I like your idea but I may tweak it a little, due to Cleveland and Washington falling in love with MKG, Cleveland swap the 4 and 24 for our 2, they get MKG ahead of Wash and we get T-Rob, draft Melo and Jenkins. Even though I would have preferred drafting a SF but since we have Iggy, I defer until next year.

Well he only gets paid a little more than Maggette next season, and the following season would be a player option, so he might opt out anyway. Either way, I wouldn't mind having him around for a year or two, and if we did re-sign him beyond that, it would be for significantly less I'd imagine. He didn't live up to the contract the Sixers gave him, be he's certainly still a decent player.

Im excited about the future. I dont think anyone can predict what happens in the future, especially with Cho as GM, but if we stand pat and just build a team off of draft picks from 2011, 2012, and 2013 draft...
2011 - Kemba Walker and Bismack Biyombo
2012 - Marcus Kidd-Gilchrist and Draymond Green
2013- Shabazz Muhammad, CJ McCollom, and Kenny Kadji
Add Byron Mullens to the lineup...
Kemba Walker - CJ McCollom
Shabazz Muhammad
Marcus Kidd-Gilchrist - Draymond Green
Byron Mullens - Kenny Kadji
Bismack Biyombo
That would have the makings of a really good team down the road. Our plan was to build through the draft, and as you can see, if we did perhaps go the route I did above, we would have plenty of cap room to add a big free agent or two.
BE PATIENT.

My plan is actually doable, we would just have to be very aggressive on draft day like like portland has been before.
-trade down with cleveland for picks 4 and 24
-trade magette's expiring plus the portland pick next year to get back in the late lottery for a another pick
-trade 24 and 31 plus cash or a future second rounder to get down to between 16 and 20.
-select thomas robinson @ 4, kendall marshall or damain lillard in the late lottery(i prefer lillard because of his potential to be like westbrook, but marshall is a hell of a passer and either gives us more size @ the position and great options @ the point. And then select quincy miller in the late teens or early 20's.He's raw, but i seriously think he could end up being a superstar!
-sign nick batum away from portland(i don't care if we overpay, because miller will take a few years to develop and we won't use all of our cap space the next few years anyway.)
-Sign jamison to mentor robinson and be a veteran locker room leader.
-Hire jerry sloan as coach to develop our young talent.
-Pray like hell that we luck out and get shabazz muhammed next year.
That would give us:
Walker/Lillard
Muhammed/Henderson
Batum/Miller
Robinson/Jamison
Biyombo/Mullens
W/ head coach Jerry Sloan
I'd take that in a heartbeat!
Black

I'd definitely be happy with that. Lillard is moving up the board though. Most mocks I"ve seen have him as a lottery pick, as high as six to Portland.

It works with the cap and mock draft predictions, but honestly I've never seen a "realistic" trade on here translate into real life so I went the "dream" route.

Anthony Davis tells new orleans that he doesnt want to play there. Bobcats send #2, future 2nd and a resigned DJ Augustine for the number #1. New orleans sidesteps the hold out and gets to pick #2 which is something we are supposed to be happy with, gets the hometown pg they need. Sign Raymond Felton and Nicholas Batum. Take fab melo with 31.
Kemba /Felton
Hendo/reggie
Batum/maggette
Davis/mully
Bismack/Melo
Lot of money at sf but an otherwise cheap roster and no starter over 25. The best young frontcourt in the nba. Cap space to resign our own guys.
Not completely realistic,but somewhat realistic.

never going to happen. ever. but if this scenario were to play out it would cost us #2, #31, portland's 2013, DJ, and the right to switch picks next year.

To drop back one spot? Nah, especially not with the threat of a Davis holdout. If Davis wont be happy where hes at, is he worth number 1?

$15.032 million
$16.460 million
$17.889 million
$19.317 million
that's the money Rudy Gay is going to be making for the next four years. The salary cap this year was $58 million. I don't want to commit over a quarter of the cap to one player who isn't a franchise talent

Draft MKG and Feb Melo this year.
Sign Antwan Jamison and Jordan Farmar this year.
Draft Shabazz Muhammad and Tim Hardaway Jr next year.
Sign Steph Curry next year.
Kemba - Farmar
Curry - Hendo - Hardaway Jr.
MKG - Shabazz
Bismack - Jamison
Mullens - Melo
In this line up, we are able to use a lot of different line ups. Bismack, Mullens, and Melo could all be used at 4 or 5, giving us a lot of size down low. We'd also have depth at the 2 and 3 spots, being able to rotate those guys around and keep the legs fresh.

Curry ends up BJ Armstrong Jr
Mullens ends up Luc Longley Jr
with Kemba (Steve Kerr), Melo (Bill Wennington) Hendo (Ron Harper), and Jamison (HoGrant) off the bench.
We can win at least 6 rings.

Dude has a god awful (in every way imaginable) jumpshot.

Struggles to score in the half court.
Gets 95% of his whopping 11ppg in transition and clean up buckets at point blank range.

It's going to be nearly impossible to keep all three of their big three. Westbrook is going to get max, or near max money, and they owe Perkins a lot over the next three years. Unless Harden will turn down more money to start elsewhere, he is going to leave in a couple years. Also Ibaka is going to get a nice pay day once his rookie contract is up.

While they'll pay a lot for those guys, I can see OKC doing it, knowing they'll have to pay a tax for a championship team, which is what that squad will look like for for the next few seasons.

I thought I heard earlier in the year that OKC is willing to pay luxury tax to keep Harden and Ibaka a little longer.
Rumors are swirling that the Bobcats are going to go hard at Roy Hibbert. Remember, he was the target a few years ago when the Bobcats traded to get back into the first round, only to have him taken a couple spots ahead when the Raptors traded with the Pacers. The Bobcats were devastated. The reason they took DJ Augustin at the last minute was because they believed they could get both he AND Hibbert in that draft, so they switched from Lopez to Augustin at the last second.
This was discussed on WFNZ a few days ago.

Any real source, or just WFNZ jawing?
The source was Brett Jensen, who had a discussion with someone that was in a position to know ... according to him. Jensen isn't known for blowing smoke.
I found it plausible, but correct me if I'm wrong, isn't Hibbert a RFA? Can't the Pacers match any offer we give him and then some? Seems like a waste of time trying to go after a guy like that IMO.

I'd be kind of pissed as odds would be damn good we'd be right back in that "treadmill" group that we were at in the first place...basically making the last year and a half wasted.
I read somewhere Grant Hill would be an option for us. Add him with Jamison plus a rook whichever it is and I think we'd win more, get somewhat into respectable status but still be keeping with The Plan.
And a good coach. That for the short term is IMO more important than anything.

i'm okay with offering hibbert a pretty big contract, as long as we don't actually end up getting him. indiana is not gonna be able to let him go, so hopefully we'll be able to drive the price on him up a bit. i feel like we should be trying to force teams like the pacers and the trailblazers (with batum) to tie up sizable money in guys who aren't quite worth that much.
rudy gay for #2 would be a travesty. pretty sure that must be some rampant internet rumor. 20 days til the draft, we'll just have to be patient and see what actually happens and judge it then.

Hibbert is an RFA and Indy is going to have to pay dearly for him. There are, however, several ways they can use the new CBA in an attempt to try and manipulate the cap situation a little bit. There is a possibility that Indiana makes a run at signing DWill, and they would be able to keep Hibbert as well as long as DWill is signed first. Knowing this to be the case, however, there are thoughts that Mark Cuban will make a large offer to Hibbert very early, thus forcing Indiana to have to match (if Hibbert forces them to do so - he can by all means turn down an offer from another team). There are some indications that Hibbert likes Indiana and is willing to work with the front office a little bit, but make no mistake about it - his agent is David Faulk and he will be paid. I'm hoping they can get him for something like 5yrs 60 million.
I would advise, however, that Hibbert is probably not the right piece to build around, and he seems to flourish only when there is a true PF alongside him (case in point, this year with David West). Only time will tell.

Hibbert and Bismack would be an interesting combo. Bismack could guard PFs and Hibbert would handle centers. I think it'd be worth if if we also got a new point guard. I think we are best served trading DJ or letting him go but keeping Kemba as a 6th man. We need a starter (and a 3rd pg too).
