I know, I know. Positions don't really matter and there are some great players that are combo-guards out there doing good things in the playoffs. AND, pure point guards are extremely rare.

That being said, the one thing I don't want us to draft is a combo-guard, unless the guy seems to be an elite player, which doesn't seem to be the case.

I'm reading about guys like Dion Waiters, and I can't stomach having another guy that isn't really a point guard but isn't really a shooting guard floating around our roster.

Given that there is so much parity of talent, I'm really hoping we draft anything but that. BPA, but if it's close, give me a legit wing player, a big, or a guy who you don't question whether he can play point guard. I'd rather roll the dice on a guy with legitimate length and defense that might not be as much of scoring threat. Seems like the antithesis of what we need, but I think I've become bigoted against combo-guards. It's not you; it's me.

Sorry for the rant.

I wouldnt classify Waiters as a combo guard. To me he is a SG first and foremost. He just happens to have the handle to play PG.

A combo guard to me is generally a guy that is undersized for a SG and is not really a scorer but has a decent handle to run PG duties.

Someone like Dexter Strickland comes to mind.

Im not sure who I would classify as a combo guard in the draft, but I also am not fond of them.

I don't know enough about the guy, but:

DraftExpress.com:

Looking forward, Waiters brings an interesting package of skills to the table along with a good amount of untapped potential. His style of play should seemingly translate well in a combo guard role off the bench as a sparkplug transition and pick and roll scorer who can defend multiple positions, which every NBA team seems to have at least one of these days.

Waiters' style of play reflects your prototypical combo-guard

HoopsHype.com

The Philly native is one of the draft's enigmas. Some love his strength, aggressiveness and ability to create offense off the dribble, while other see a player lacking a true position. Coming off the bench for Syracuse, Waiters proved to be a dynamic, instant offense type of player. Waiters is a little undersized at 6-foot-4 and lacks point guard skills, but is able to overpower opponents with his sheer strength.

This lack of true position status is really what I don't want in a guard at the moment.

From the videos ive seen he is a good scorer. Can shoot and create his own shot. Not really undersized as he is 6'4.

Not sure why he wouldnt be considered a SG.

Weird no doubt as I would certainly classify him as a SG.

Unless he is 6'2 or something....

To me a combo guard is a guy that is undersized to play SG and doesnt really have PG instincts and vision.
