...is making an NBA comeback
http://tracking.si.com/2012/06/16/brandon-roy-nba-portland-trailblazers-retirement/

WE NEED TO MAKE A RUN AT HIM. He is franchise level talent and this would be the perfect place for him to restart. We helped Shaun Livingston get back on his feet. We helped Kwame get a big contract. We can help Brandon too.

Imagine Kemba/B. Roy/????/T-Rob/Bismack with Henderson/Mullens/Derrick Brown/???? off the bench!!

I don't know how that would work. He was amnestied because of his injury and retirement. So Portland paid him, would they have the rights if he decided to come back?

In any event, I'm all for any cheap talent. Low risk, high reward.

Not read anything from above as I know this thread will be about trying to get him on the bobcats and that simply will not happen. If he played for us I think he would retire again... he will go and be a role player/6th man for a contender like Miami, LA or the clippers

I saw something about him wanting to return over a week ago but it was tied to him joining the Lakers or the Warriors though. His ex-agent is GM of the Warriors. He would not be a starter as he would not be given alot of minutes.

Roy's knees are shot. His 15 minutes are up. The bobcats don't need that type of baggage in this rebuilding.

Anybody but the Blazers can sign him, well, anybody that is a title contender; otherwise if you are Roy, why would you come back and do further damage to your knees:

from BlazerEdge Feb 2012 Interview (http://www.blazersedge.com/2012/2/28/2830787/roy-coming-back)

The Blazers waived Roy, 27, using the Amnesty Clause on December 15, 2011. At the time I wrote that I would not be surprised if he attempted a comeback, despite knees that have been described as "bone-on-bone."

On December 17, 2011, Roy cleared the NBA's 48-hour Amnesty Clause blind bidding waiver process, becoming an unrestricted free agent.

A spokesman from the NBA league office confirmed on Tuesday that the Blazers are not able to re-sign Roy until after the 2014-2015 season, as teams cannot re-sign players that were released via Amnesty Clause until after the full duration of the contract that was waived.

"Can't pick him up again until after the contract expires," the spokesman wrote in an email.

A Blazers executive further confirmed those details on Tuesday afternoon, saying that the earliest Portland could re-acquire Roy is following the 2014-2015 contract cycle. In other words, Roy could not come back to Portland via trade or sign-and-trade until July 2015.

Update: Roy's contract has already been removed from Portland's books and luxury tax calculation because of the Amnesty Clause process.

Because Roy cleared the Amnesty Clause bidding process, he is free to "double dip" on a new contract: He would still receive payment for his previous deal from the Blazers and could sign a second contract with any NBA team other than the Blazers. If that happened, the Blazers would receive a set-off amount that would reduce their financial obligation to Roy, according to StoryTeller.

The set-off amount -- money that Portland would no longer owe Roy -- would equal 1/2 of the difference between his new deal and a minimum contract for a player with one year of service. For example, if a team offered Roy a deal for $2 million, Portland would be able to set off $619,000 ($2 million minus the minimum salary of $762,000, divided by two). If Roy were to sign a minimum deal based on his years of service, the set-off amount would be less than $100,000.

Had Roy been claimed during the Amnesty bidding process, Portland would have no longer been responsible for paying the bid portion of his previous contract. For example, if a team had bid for 25 percent of Roy's salary, Portland would have paid 75 percent and the other 25 percent would have been paid by the claiming team. The total amount Roy would have made in that scenario would have been the amount of his original contract in Portland.

Good find.

Not to mention that he shunned us during his workouts pre-draft. We are no better now than we were then, so why would he want to try and jump start his career in Charlotte? I wanted him in that draft year, but no way a SG with bum knees makes sense for either side in this. Agree that he latches on to a contender in a reserve role.

Are you talking about Pritchard? If so, he's with Indiana.

I'd over him no more than the vet minimum...2 year deal, first year partially guaranteed, second year unguaranteed, but I wouldn't expect him to get too much or make much of a difference. His knees are long-gone and I don't think he could do more than 10-15 minutes a game off the bench for too long before he wore down again. I'm not against him getting a shot, but 1) I don't think he's got much left 2) If he has any other option, I think he'd choose elsewhere. Doubt he'd make a comeback to sit on the bench of the worst team in the NBA.

Brandon roy has already pocketed a shit ton of money, has no knees left, and probably knows that he's gonna be walking with a cane by 45.He's trying to suck it to go somewhere and quickly win a championship and make an exit.He didn't wanna play here when we were trying to draft him and build the franchise around him(and he is who jordan wanted, not ammo.Bonnell's full of shit on that one!).Why the hell would he even think about signing with us when he's putting his long term health on the line to come back and we're the worst team in the nba? There's not a snowball's chance in hell! And we need building blocks, not another guy getting paid to not play.So why would we want him anyway?

We're rebuilding. Roy was good in his prime, but he's too old for us to be used.

No I was talking about his agent, a Bob Myers. I read this and it made no sense then to post it to this board. There was little chance of him coming here.

This was a tweet from Peter Vecsey
Brandon Roy is considering Lakers should he come back. I say he's coming back 4 sure...but to Warriors, where ex-agent Bob Myers is GM

reasons to not expect him in Charlotte or even pursue him

bum knees
his willingness to probably go to a contender
his spawning us once
not really too helpful as far as health
we are in rebuild stage
he is straight up not interested
and the list goes on....

He's not too old.He just has no knees. He would still be getting ready to come into his prime if he was healthy. But i think i've already stated every reason this won't work in my other post.
