Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo spoke to the media in Toronto today about the team’s situation entering free agency, and some members of the media left the room feeling that Colangelo had intimated that he would use the amnesty clause to get out from under Jose Calderon in an effort to clear cap space.

I think there are mixed feelings about him here, but if the price was right, what would you guys think? 6'3'' pass first point guard seems like exactly what we need, I'm just not sure what his role would be. Thoughts?

I haven't watched him play hardly at all the last two years, and the last I remembered, his play was diminishing quite a bit. If he can still run and make good passes, I'd be fine signing him to a two year contract.

He averaged about 10 points and 9 assists the last two years.

I would in no way, shape, or form call him the best PG in the league..........however....
He DOES have the best Pure Point Rating in the league....

Didn't know that, but it's impressive.

Trade a player we claim? I don't think there would be any abnormal restrictions. I think if you are amnestied, you become an unrestricted free agent. You just can't go back to the team that amnestied you.

If I recall correctly, when you are amnestied every team under the cap is allowed to make a claim to take a portion of your contract and the highest bidder gets you for that price, while the amnestying team pays the rest of the contract. (Recall Billups saying he didn't want anyone to claim him, he wanted to be a FA) If you pass through those waivers (maybe not called that but similar to waivers in baseball) you then become a FA, but I'm not sure of the trading issue. I would assume there would be some restriction to eliminate the possibility of an under the cap team placing a bid for a team over the cap and then shipping him straight there for an expiring and a pick or something.

I'd be okay with him for a two year deal, man is not much of a scorer, but would be the best passing PG this teams ever had...

If he comes cheap enough and doesn't mind coming off of the bench I'd be okay with it, no need to stunt our young guys growth.
