View Full Version : Marshon Brooks

Marshon Brooks played some PG toward the end of the season for the New Jersey Nets and I would love to see the Bobcats get in on that blockbuster trade and acquire Brooks. He is another player that can really score the basketball and could be another key acquisition in the complete retooling of the Bobcats roster. If the Bobcats are able to get in on that deal and get Brooks the way this offseason has shaped up the Bobcats have the potential to be a MUCH improved offensive team.
PG: Kemba Walker (5'11) - Marshon Brooks (6'5)
SG: Gerald Henderson (6'5) - Ben Gordon (6'3) - Reggie Williams (6'6)
SF: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (6'7) - Jeffrey Taylor (6'7) - Derrick Brown (6'8)
PF: Antawn Jamison (6'9) - Tyrus Thomas (6'10)
C: Bismack Biyombo (6'9) - Byron Mullens (7'0)
I would much rather prefer Marshon Brooks on this roster than D.J. Augustin as the backup PG because he has no fear and with his size, length, and vertical jump he can get his shot whenever he wants from the PG position. D.J. just doesn't seem to have that type of confidence in his ability.
With this roster I could certainly see the Bobcats improving from last in the league averaging only 87ppg last season to averaging 97+ PPG...
Also, I believe Kidd-Gilchrist may be able to hide some of this teams rebounding deficiencies at the PF and C positions...

Brooks is a SG....
With that said he is certainly an upgrade over Hendo.

I would never play him at PG, when he played PG last year he would dribble up the court and then hand it off straight away and god stand in a corner or run off a screen. Also dont forget behind Deron last year the nets struggled for a PG as Farmar was out for a lot of time. However, I would love to have him as he is a good player who can score in a lot of ways but more importantly as Cho Will see him, he is an asset which makes Gordon and Hendo and himself more expendable in trades. We could get him for Portland's 1st and then quite easily flip him for a higher pick in 2013 I think as he is part of a throw in with the DH trade which makes him worth a little less than a trade which was based on him

I'd take him and start him at 2. A sophomore backcourt of him and Kemba would be an upgrade.
right now he is an asset. cho is certainly in asset collection, youngs and 1 and 2 year decent vets. all available for trading to get more picks and/or better players. if he is as good as dash thinks, he makes hendo very expendable, if he is only as good, they are both filed in the asset category.

I would take him in a heartbeat giving up one of our Portland/Detroit 1sts. I am a big fan and he is miles ahead of Hendo already with better potential. I see him as a 20+ ppg guy in a few years and exactly what we need at the 2 going forward. A young core of Brooks, MKG, Biz, and Kemba, with Hendo as a great 6th man (exactly what his role should be in my opinion) would have me very excited about this team's potential.

admittedly, don't know much about him past the highlight video, but from that he needs to get quicker with the ball. great scorer, mid-range guy, not very explosive with the ball though.

Remember Skratch that anyone can look good in Summer League, remember Chris Douglas Roberts putting up the scoring record in summer league of like 42 or something!? Where is he now? Europe... Also I have watched the games, yes Lance Stephenson has looked good and his showed better than expected court vision, but he uses his size to overpower opponents right now. Remember in the NBA people get bigger, stronger and better

Brooks is better than Shrerron Collins, CDR, or Lance Stephenson. Stop those comparisons. But we'd have 0 use for him unless Henderson or Ben Gordon are moved. He is not a point guard and needs minutes to develop properly. We have too many shoot-first guards as it is we don't need to add another unless we subtract one too.

Brooks is a better ball handler.
Brooks is a better shooter.
Brooks is a better scorer.
Brooks is way ahead of Hendo when you compare their rookie seasons and was comparable to Hendo last season in which it was Hendo's 3rd season and number one option for the Bobcats.
Its easy to see Brooks is a better player and prospect than Hendo.

Hendo is only one year older than Brooks. People act like Brooks is 18 or something but he'll be 24 before the end of this next season.
So that means Hendo at his third year (the year YOU chose) was the same age as Brooks (in the year YOU chose). So good luck.

good or great scorers are not good or even average 3 point shooters. kobe, lebron, wade, mcgrady, iverson, rose and etc... were never good 3 point shooters ,and the only exception is maybe kevin durant . look at all the top scoring leaders from the past years and you will notice that all good/scorers have vast scoring options and are high volume free throw shooters. marshon doesn't equate to none of the above,at best he may be a poor man's jamal crawford or kevin martin.

3pt shooting is only ONE way to score. Great scorers are generally good at attacking the basket (which draws fouls) and scoring in a variety of ways.

Hendo is a 2 way player. 2 way players make for starters. Brooks has flash. The one thing brooks is supposed to be better at, he wasn't (shooting the ball and scoring). Hendo was more efficient and dropped more points. Both are still improving so there's really no way to say definitively "this person will be this kind of player" or anything, but that's how I see it.

being a 20 point scorer isn't as far fetch as many think. just like a 1,000 yard runner only needs to avg 63 yards a game, a 20 point scorer can be no more than a person who shoots more than 25 attempts a game, alot like westbrook ,brandon jennings, and granger. these players are not efficient ,but high volume shooters always travel to 3-4 teams in their prime years because they are team chemistry killers. the new cba may have complicated player movements but in the mid 00's players of that magnitude were on their 3-4th team by 32(end of prime for most)ex; marbury, baron davis, ,stackhouse,,kevin martin, jamal crawford, basically high volume /non efficient shooters who aren't 2 way players don't last long and are at premium so u can keep brooks,we don't need him. kobe, iverson(attitude messed up career),and mcgrady (because of injuries fell off) were high volume shooters but they also was elite defenders making em elite players. i didn't mention lebron or wade because even though they are high volume shooters but also are 2 of the most efficient/great defending players of their positions.

gerald sat the bench during the larry brown era ,so this is technically his soph year .if brooks was drafted on a larry brown team ,would he even be relevant rite now because larry is known for sitting prospects and brooks would of took at least 2-3 years to even break the rotation . i think you need to watch henderson play more then you will understand that he is one of the best mid-range guards in the league ,so hendo isn't limited to only being a slasher . look at the month of april and you will see what hendo is capable of also check out the gerald henderson vs bucks youtube vid

That may be true, but I think he's more of a 2-3 dribble type to go around a man or cut between a few guys than he is a break-your-ankles type. He'll never be Kobe, but he can get around guys to get to the rim.

I go to games and have seen hendo play plenty. And yes he is a decent mid range guy But brooks is a pure scorer. There is a big difference.Hendo for the most part either scores on dunks or 15 footers, whereas a guy like brooks can get his own shot,go to the rack, and pretty much score anywhere on the court.Gerald can be a very good player,i'm not denying that. But he will never be a pure scorer in the mold of a guy like brooks. And guys like him are very hard to find in the nba.And it's twice as hard to get one into a market like charlotte. We should take advantage and get this kid if we can and worry about the rotation later.

Prob better off telling that to the posters that throw out personal insults directly. Note the guy calling me a fool above. (Not that is bothers me)
But I prb shouldnt have made a general statement about "homers".
As we know, people's sensitivity levels vary lol
