Kind of saw this coming with Jeff Taylor here now
sent from the pseudo GM offices of the Charlotte Bobcats.

Well that tells us how much confidence they have in Jeff Taylor for sure. Dang UPS, I will miss your dancing ability and the occasional steal and breakaway. I thought he was developing into a decent 12th man. I think he'll show up on another roster for sure.

I can't believe this isn't breaking news on ESPN yet.

Steve Reed @SteveReed_AP (https://twitter.com/SteveReed_AP) The decision to rescind their qualifying offer to Derrick Brown saves about $3 million under the cap. He was expendable after the draft.

Always liked UPS, but I'm ok with this decision....unless it means Higgins gets a roster spot.

In Cho we trust...
Dunlap has a good head start in coaching and getting to know ALL the guys in Summer League... Even Henderson and R. Williams have been there with coaches to some extent. Best I can tell, only 'significant' reserves Sessions, Haywood, Gordon, Diop, and Thomas have not... Hmmmm....
Regular camp may well see the SL starters as Training Camp starters, at least until someone takes their spot during camp...

We could still resign him for less money. We just don't have those funds weighing on our cap now.

Hope we use the money to go towards Landry. Dont want it to be a move only to put the money in MJ's pocket.

I just don't think we need brown. We have six wing players already with hendo, gordon, carroll, williams, mkg, and taylor. If they could, they probably would have just gotten rid of carroll. But since they can't,i guess williams will basically be our 3rd sf.Even though he's really more of a 2.But in today's nba those positions are very interchangeable.I guess ups might actually be working for ups this year! lol.

I liked UPS, but he just never grew into the potential I saw. In hindsight, I wish we would've kept Dante Cunningham instead.
As an aside, I certainly hope this move wasn't about Higgins, but rather getting some more money to spend on Landry.

I don't think it was about either. We just have enough wing players. And the prospects of him getiing minutes over mkg, taylor, and williams is zero.I'm with you on cunningham though.I wish we would have kept him at the time.Although now i'm glad we didn't because he wouldn't get much burn on this team either.I wish ups well.I've just never really seen him as an nba level player.I thought he had euro league written all over him from day 1.I actually hope we bring back dj white and shaun livingston with our last 2 spots. At least shaun gives us size at position where we need it and dj can rebound decently for a pf off the end of the bench.I wouldn't waste cap flexibility on landry at this point.

Yeah, I'm with you on DJ White though man. I believe he's a really good player and with us needing a PF, I don't see why we wouldn't do that. I still don't see why we didn't give the QO to DJW instead of UPS.
DJ2 has the basketball knowledge of a grapefruit.
I'll miss Derrick, he was always entertaining (Poetry Corner, the timeout "contests" and his dancing and athleticism), but this is a move that makes sense. He hated taking J's for some reason and isn't a good defender so Dunlap wouldn't play him.

Somewhat suprising but as everyone said, They bust be sold on Taylor. That sucks though Derrick Brown was one of the most likable guys on the team.

I like UPS and wish we could have kept him. Even though we were packed on the wings, he could have some mins in the front court being than we are thin. Maybe we are making a move eventually

Not surprised about the move, but how does this save 3 million? I thought his QO was around 1 million?

I don't know how people could want DJW to stay, he is so one dimensional it is unbelievable, if he cant hit that midrange J he has NOTHING. Also he is a very poor defender, he is so slow and we got killed every time he was out there on D.
I will miss UPS, he just wants to play and he got a chance to d so last year, I actually thought he developed last year. He was much better at rebounding, finally began to hit that mid range jumper and played better defence. I am sure UPS will end up on another roster elsewhere, it just shows the increase in strength of our roster. UPS started some games for us last year and was one of the first off the bench, now he can't even make the team.
I just hope to god we don't bring in Corey Higgins still, he is an absolute waste of space!

I was thinking about exactly the same thing. His QO is 1 million, cap hit is the same, how on earth this saves $3 million? Besides, that QO was not something guaranteed, so I really can't understand how anybody can save anything with such a move. We simply gave him offer, he chose to find more lucrative deals somewhere else and after some time, we pulled the offer back. Now we can sign him for $885k, if he can't find a better deal. But I guess there is a logjam at small forward position, so he'll better be out for both parties.

I'm guessing that the cap hold may have been 3 million even though the QO was 1.

Yeah Tam I think Westbrook must be right, it was the cap HOLD vs. actual savings.
Bad reporting.

No, Sir, I guess not. Derrick Brown earned 854k last season, mininum, and his cap hit is due to be the minimum amount not reinbursed by the league, which is 900k I believe or QO amount itself, whichever is higher.

I think he falls "any" type.
edit: Why do we bother with that point, he's gone anyway :)

I don't know why the bobcats did this, but they better do something good with that roster spot instead of signing someone from the summerleague roster, because Derrick Brown is better than every single one of them.

I'm thinking that is the issue. No salary cap guru but the cap hold is more than the actual QO. don't quote me on this.

Yeah, I was huge on UPS when we drafted him. He was sold as a slasher with range, and he was really neither of those things, most obviously his lack of 3 point range in the pros. He did start to show some progress last season, but not enough that shows he's more than a fringe NBA player.
